Excellent stay at this Charming Hotel
My partner and I have just stayed at the Ambleside Lodge. It was a truly lovely stay with the family running the hotel very warm and welcoming. Nothing seemed to be any bother and they accommodated us very well. The hotel is a lovely historic building and the room we had room 17 was large and very comfortable. We had a small problem with a leaking toilet which was sorted in minutes. Breakfast is excellent and of a high standard and the family who run this hotels are true stars. Hope to visit the Ambleside Lodge very soon.

Ruined anniversary and was assaulted for ¿¿240
I booked 2 nights for my girlfriend and I to celebrate our anniversary. On arrival on the Saturday around 2pm the reception was unattended, dark, cold and uninviting. We found a piece of paper next to a telephone asking to call a number. On calling the number the response was a confused tone; as though it was strange that we had called. An elderly lady appeared to check us in. We had a dog with us at the reception desk. When the elderly woman saw our dog she said that she needed to check something. She came back with paperwork and said that the room we had been allocated was not suitable for a dog since it had wooden floors (??). We explained that we had booked via the Internet and searched ONLY for hotels which allowed dogs. The elderly lady said that she did not 'do' email or the Internet and that she had just been given paperwork but it did not mention dogs. She then said that she would put is in number 12 and asked if we would be happy to pay an extra ¿¿5 per night for our dog, which we agreed to despite this not being pointed out at our point of booking. She asked us to ensure that our dog was 'not running around the corridors' and to 'keep him out of sight.' We said this was no problem at all. The elderly lady then escorted us (including our dog) to the room. We were shown the room and the bathroom and she departed. We had a quick look around and were disappointed. The dog friendly room we had booked for ¿¿120 per night stated that we would have a four poster bed and a jacuzzi with a separate shower. We found that we had a normal bed with a dilapidated, the shower was over the bath, the jacuzzi was a jacuzzi bath. It was also really cold in the room. We tried to put radiators on - but discovered the heating was off. The television was an old CRT model with the numbers worn off the remote. The decor was tired with torn wall paper and a non working kettle. We left the room after a 5 minute stay to have a small walk around the local area.On our return later in the day around 6pm I went down to the reception area to ask for takeaway menus. The man on reception (manager?) recommended some places to eat nearby which I declined and explained we could not dine out because we had our dog with us. I then returned to our room after being told he would soon be up to bring plates and cutlery for our meal. Shortly after this there was a knock at our door. A lady (wife of manager?) said that we should not have brought a dog into the room and that we had to leave straight away. We explained that the elderly lady had shown us to the room, given us the key and said that it was fine and that we had agreed to pay ¿¿5 extra. She said that the paperwork did not mention a dog and that her mother in law (the elderly lady) would not have given us this room at all and that we were in the wrong. We explained that we had requested a dog friendly room and that we had no where else to go and that it was not our fault that the paperwork was wrong. The woman said that it was not their fault and we should go otherwise she would put our dog in an outside kennel. When we said this was not possible she started to shout at us that she would have to get professional cleaners into the room and she would charge us for the expense. By this point our dog became stressed and started to circle the room agitated and intimidated by the shouting. We repeated that the elderly lady knew full well when she checked us in the circumstances and that it was up to them to sort the situation. Penny the woman said she would go and get 'Joan' and bring her back to prove we were lying. Penny reappeared with Joan who lied and said that she had not allowed us into the room. When we asked her how it could be possible that we even had a key to the room if she had not escorted us to the room personally Penny shouted that we were 'The worst guests we've ever had.' Then Joan the elderly lady pushed and poked my girlfriend in the shoulder and chest whilst saying,'I did not tell you you

Beware Ambleside Lodge do not honour booking terms to pay full refund
I made booked a room in January for a 2 nights, March 9th. I changed the reservation to 20th April, by phone on 20th February and confirmed by e:mail same day. Unfortunately due to my wife being taken ill I had to cancel the amended reservation on 14th April. and confirmd by e:mail. Given that it was well in advance of the required 48hours notice, In line with the booking terms I expected a full refund to be debited to my credit card. All my e:mails asking for refund to be debited to my card were ignored, finaly, yesterday I received a rather rude telephone call telling me that even though I had given plenty of notice that they would not refund the deposit, in effect breaking the terms of our agreement.

We have just spent 2 nights there. lovely rooms...well appointed and very very clean. It is family run and all of them seem very switched on, flexible and friendly. The food is well cooked and well presented. The location is perfect too!

Enjoyable stay
Turned up at 4pm looking for a room and were given a lovely welcome. Shown to a room which had recently been decorated but due to slight smell of paint we where offered another ( superior ) room for the same price! Room was very clean and warm with a very comfortable 4 poster bed. After a very good nights sleep we had an excellent breakfast served by very friendly staff. Very relaxed atmosphere and will stay again.
