living social deal-2 night stay. Smashing place, friendly staff/owners, clean and comfortable rooms. Great food-had full english on morning one and muffin with scrambled egg and bacon day two-both faultless. Old building, sobedroom floors are very creaky (well ours was in room 6) and was wary of moving around in case we disturbed other residents but did not hear other residents moving around so maybe i was being over cautious!Place is for sale and if I had the money I would buy, lots of character and nice village location that is handy for Durham etc. Four pubs within walking distance, one of which does good food (The Village Inn).

This is more a boutique, designer hotel rather than a guesthouse. I have stayed in 5* hotels that were less luxurious!!! Everything exuded quality, good taste and class; from the fixtures and fittings in the room to the immaculate up market, top of the range ensuite.The towels were snow white , large and fluffy. The room was extremely well appointed, with flat screen television, fridge,tea and cofee making facilities and a hairdryer. The breakfast was excellent. You had to choose from an extensive menu, including vegetarian options the night before. There was a range of cereals and yogurts; homemade fresh fruit salad, including strawberries, melon, watermelon and fresh cherries. Coffee was served in an individual cafetiere. The real butter was in an individual, covered, ceramic pot ,not those horrible, individual, unopenable, tinfoil containers, There was a good selection of jams and preserves, including homemade lemoncheese. The cooked breakfast was hot,delicious and beautifully presented.The property is in a prime location for visiting the local attractions, is quiet, rural and with stunning views. The owners and staff are warm,friendly and welcoming, without being intrusive.I thoroughly recommend this country house;it is a little jem!!

We stayed here as a party of 5 and had 3 rooms on the ground floor for one night. The other main family that stayed upstairs seemed up themselves which was a shame but can't be helped by the owners! Apart from the other guests our experience was almost entirely positive, bar a bit of noise coming through our ceiling from upstairs (we could hear them walking around etc.). The rooms and ensuite bathrooms were immaculately clean and the breakfast the morning we left was delicious. The lady who we presumed was the owner/manager said the night we stayed was the first time all of their rooms were occupied at once, which surprises me as it is good value and I would definitely recommend. It's also ideal for families visiting for the graduation ceremony as long as someone is driving, as it is near enough to Durham but still in idyllic surroundings.

Although the grey outside looks rather severe in wet weather, we received a very warm welcome. The family room was comfortable and peaceful and the breakfast was very good indeed. THis accomodation is well located for exploring the area from the numerous delights of Durham, to the spectacular beauties of the northern Peak district.

We stayed here for two nights and were impressed with the quality of this friendly Guest House. The room we had was spacious with excellent facilities as detailed by other reviewers.The local pubs were a short walk away and in spite of looking "a bit rough" the food was excellent and the locals were very friendly. We would have happily given it an Excellent rating if it wasn't for the fact that the sound insulation was not very good and we were woken up by the guy next door getting up at 6.30 in the morning!This is a Quality Guest House but be aware that as of now the owners are retiring and the place is up for sale.
