Nice riverside location for lunch
We've been here several times over the last few years. This pub is In a fantastic riverside location, lovely garden but the food is average and the place could be so much nicer with some attention to detail. The previous comments seem a bit harsh. We found the staff friendly and although a busy Friday lunchtime the service was fairly quick but the food when it arrived was plain and uninspiring. With a bit more effort this place could be fantastic. Come on owners rise to the challenge!

Walk up the hill and avoid this pub
We stopped at the Hope and Anchor while on a canoe trip along the river Wye. We moored our boats at the steps by the river in the pub garden and went in to the very busy pub on a lovely sunny bank holiday afternoon. I ordered a roast dinner and my other half a mixed grill, when ordering the food we were warned there would be a 45 minute wait. 1 hour and 45 minutes later we received our food! In the intervening time the staff were unhelpful and could not give us a reason why our food had not arrived. If it had been a restaurant I would have got up and left before the food had even arrived. It was only because we were so hungry from a morning on the river that we kept wait. When our food finally arrived my roast was average at best and my partners mixed grill was terrible, the steak was well done (he asked for it medium rare) the sausages looked like they had been microwaved and the pork chop was as tough as an old boot. I would not recommend eating here under any circumstances ever. Long wait for substandard food.

Great location, shame about the pub!
Filthy and neglected, this pub is a disgrace to Marston's brewery.Barely adequate food. Everything sticky, dusty and if we had used the loos before eating, we would not have stayed. Cold and dark. The building is shabby and needs a total refurb.

Making the most of the sunny day
As it was such a lovely day and my plans included visiting an elderly relative near Ross - we decided to make the day of it. As a treat we thought we would have a pub lunch. We found the ideal spot right beside the river. We placed our order at the bar - which was very dark and cold as we entered, collected our cutlery from the 'designated' area - and picked up condiments - all a bit grubby and sticky - then went to find a table back in the warm sunshine. Somehow it all looked like it needed some TLC. Some of the wooden tables were worn and broken others were covered in bird poo. We found a table and waited only a short time for our meals. Both were only just about adequate. It was very disappointing only to be made more so by one of the waitresses coming round clearing the tables smoking.Such a shame - as with a riverside location it could be really really nice. Please brush up on your overall cleanliness .

Dirty, Filthy, Discusting
We stayed at the Hope & Anchor Inn for 1 night. Whilst the location is lovely the food & rooms are discusting. We had a bar meal in the pub which was a shockingly bad bacon & cheese baguette with even worse chips! Breakfast again was disappointing greasy & cheap quality ingredients. Now onto the room itself dirty disgusting room other than the bedding which smelt clean. What really annoyed me was that there was no soap or any washing product in the bathroom! Shocking really for ¿¿60 a night!
