Better than Expected
We stayed at the Royal Albion during bthe Brighton festival and found it generally OK. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and our room clean with a pleasant sea view. Our only criticism would be the noise from late night revellers (not much the hotel can do anything about) abd the poor quality of the breakfast. If you are on a cheap coach holiday nasty sausages and powdered fruit juice might be OK, but when you are paying over ¿¿120 a night you expect a bit more. The saving grace for this hotel is its location, being right next to Brighton pier.

Terrible rooms, terrible hotel.
¿¿140 a night for a terrible room. Dirty, smelly, tiny tv (about the size of a game boy), dirty shower that didn't work very well, dirty lobby, dirty service. A decent location i guess. Its just a pity that no one has looked after this hotel since world war 2. No attention to anything. it should be renamed the Brighton Hostel for those who are desperate. The best thing about this hotel was leaving. Thanks for nothing.

Fine if you want to sleep in a nightclub.
Stayed here a while ago, Booked via hotels.com for a night away. This seemed perfect: right next to the Pier, The Lanes and just down the road from our friends who we were visiting. We waited almost 45 minutes just to check in. One person on reception who was booking in, taking payment and showing guests to their rooms. Eventually, we got to our room, decided to dump our stuff and go straight to our friends house. Cut to 12:30am... We get back to our room only to find it was practically in the adjoining nightclub. (There was no mention of a nightclub attached to/ next door to the hotel. We ask to be moved but the night manager said there were no more free rooms. Whilst on the phone to hotels.com and talking to the manager, we could hear what the DJ was saying (including a "shout out to the Brighton Massive")The lobby/reception area was lovely; vintage/art deco (which I adore), but the room was pokey, smelly, stained and pretty rank. The Hotel Inspector would wet herself at this place! The rooms either need to be dragged, kicking & screaming into the 21st century OR go down the vintage 1920s route. Either way, it needs a ruddy good scrub! Avoid at ALL costs. We bailed out at 2am and slept on the front room floor of our friend's house.

Only redeaming feature is the good staff
Decor is extremely tired. The staff were helpful and friendly. The beds are extremely hard. there was a smell of sewage emanating from the bathroom. We were booked and paid for 2 nights and left after only one. The breakfast was very poor quality. Not recommended other than for the superb location.

Dirty, smelly and really tired
We were booked into a superior room with Jacuzzi bath and sea views and were hopeful of a pleasant weekend visiting Brighton as we had stayed at the Albion about 20 years ago and had found it to be quite good.On arriving, we noted the poor condition of the exterior of the Hotel but despite this, ventured in. The lobby was dark and dirty so we were immediately wary. At reception, we paid in advance and collected the room key and proceeded via the lift to the fourth floor. The approach to the room smelled musty and damp but we carried o against our better judgement to the luxury room with sea view. On opening the door, the first sensation to hit us was the heat, due to the air conditioning not working, hardly surprising as the grill was missing, exposing filthy gauze which looked like a health hazard on it's own. In order to attempt to dissipate the heat, the window to the sea view had been left open, just aswell as closed the light would have been cut out by filth. The only beneficiaries of the open windows were the copious number of flies who were merrily buzzing around, (the room stayed stubbornly hot). Next thing to hit us was the smell of stale smoke in what was meant to be a non smoking room. On inspecting the facilities, we discovered tired furniture, threadbare carpets, dirty, stained toilet and general filth. After a couple of minutes gazing out of the window towards the road which runs by the sea (nearly a sea view I suppose) we decided that this hotel was too foul to stay in.We then went downstairs to the lounge to attempt to find alternative accommodation for our weekend and, this confirmed, we went to reception, noting the bait boxes dotted around the lounge which I can only assume was an act of mercy to prevent the mice dying of botulism. On arrival at the desk, I told the girl that due to the non functioning air conditioning and general squalor, we would not be staying here and requested a full refund. To our surprise, this was offered with no arguments, suggesting that this was far from an isolated incident. If you are considering staying here, please think again, this place needs a complete revamp (or demolition).P.S. It got a score of one as I was unable to give it any less
