Gorgeous setting but a bit dated in some places
I love the setting of this hotel just by Kalmarsund and the Borgholm castle ruin not far away. My room was very nice and I had views of the sea. Very comfortable bed and excellent with multiple nice pillows. On the bad side was that the floor tiles were very, very slippery so I felt like Bambi on ice sometimes. You really needed shoes or slippers on.Another thing that there are plenty of is bats so I would recommend you not having your window open at least at night.The public areas was OK but not more. They really should do with an update and the public toilets were horrible. Broken floor tiles, very old toiletrings and smell (not a good one) on the toilets was very surprising to me. A hotel that wants to uphold a good reputation must have good public areas and especially toilets. The food was not up to standard. We had a jubilee dinner and the most tasteful was the starter soup. The meat we couldn't even cut and it was the same the day before. So don't go hear just to eat.Breakfast was OK but no more.

Filthy
We have been traveling around this year and vistied many nice places and hotels. Borgholm is a nice little village but we were shocked to stay at the Strand. Filthy is the word. I don't know what happend to any standard at this hotel, if they even have any. Sorry but you will not see us again.

Average hotel in an excellent location
This is an average hotel very well located in an area with few good options regarding hotels. The rooms are very basic, bathrooms extremely outdated, and the price quiet high for what you get. Positive is the good breakfast and restaurant. The bar loungue with live music is a bit depressing. There is free parking and internet, as well as a small pool. The beach is very small, but you are close to a forest with small beautiful bathing spots nearby

A sparse, expensive experience
Stayed here recently for my cousin's wedding. There was somehting like 30 of us attentind the wedding staying here with the bride & groom in the honeymoon suite to top it off.Upon arrrival we were told that there had been no note ahead of us checking in early. This was an extreme oversight on the hotel's part since there was since the entire wedding reception had booked these rooms months in advance for this occasion with specific instructions. Since we were on a schedule and couldn't wait for our regular room to become available me and my lovely GF had to settle for a single room with no sea view. Not a good start.Apart from being small the room was very bland. A 17" CRT TV, no air conditioner, no toiletries, not even a bathroom map to keep you from killing yourself when the bathroom floor was wet (which was inevitable when taking a shower). The minibar is something you assume is expensive but at 25 SEK for a 50cl bottle of water all sense and reason were thrown out the window. To the hotel's credit the bed was actually good to sleep in. The included hotel breakfast was good, but that is on the par for swedish hotels so no extra credit given there. My cousin (the bride's brother) however was 3min late to the breakfast (ending 10.30 on a sunday) and couldn't get as much as a cup of coffe from the waitors at that point. Unbelievable inflexibility.The hotel felt run down overall with old 80's decor and rugs. The walls were adorned with blown-up photos of swedish 80's has-beens performing at the hotel during shows. This kind of summarized the entire feel of the place, a place living on old achievements.I'm sure that there is no better place than Strand Hotel for partying in Borgholm during the summer. This however can not excuse the lack of service and low value rooms compared to the very steep price level.

Beautiful, relaxing place
Both the hotel and the surroundings were lovely. You could take a relaxing walk in the wood, listen to the birds and have a look at the royal castle. There are also other memorys from the earlier days. Very interesting and recomendable. And you can have a swim in the sea.
