Excellent view and lovely stay!
I really enjoyed staying the night at the Ravel Hotel a couple of weeks ago. It is fairly close to the city (with a beautiful view of the skyline). I LOVE the spacious shower and comfortable bed. It was also had a lot of space and great extras like a fridge that you normally don't get in NYC. The hotel staff was very friendly and the shuttle service, an extra bonus. Althou, the first subway stop is a bit of a distance, the shuttle ran like clockwork and getting around was easier because of it. I love the cold water that was available at the front desk, that was a great touch. The entire hotel had a fun and upbeat feel and I would stay here again.

Rooms are very tired
Furnishings are scratched, stained and have burn holes. Lamp shades are filthy. Wood Flooring is scratched. The view is great and having a balcony is a treat, but the room needs complete new furnishings. The computer in the lobby does not have a printer. Internet is not free. You cannot walk to anywhere--an isolated area. But, the view is great!

Would defiantly recommend!!
We traveled as a group of 6 adults at the beginning of May/ end of April. We had been recommended to stay in the middle of manhattan but we really liked the contemporary image of the ravel hotel. We are glad we decided to stay out of the hustle and bustle as it meant we could have a view of New York from our beds! The staff were very helpful and friendly, if there was a problem it was solved without a fuss and quickly (we couldn't open our safe). The rooms were clean and spacious, the bed was amazing comfortable and we really enjoyed the open plan bathrooms. The hotel is expanding so there is building work, this isn't a problem as rooms do not overlook it and the building was not noisy at all...so it should not put you off booking. There is a shuttle bus to the metro stations which we had no problems with and was defiantly better than walking!Overall we really enjoyed New York and The Ravel Hotel and would thoroughly recommend it!

Not recommended!
The only plus points were the friendly reception ladies and the shuttle service to/from the local subway stations. Our room - although relatively clean - suffered from scruffy furnishings, walls and ceilings and the linen was not changed every day - we had to prompt them to do so. For a hotel that apparently welcomes young families, an inappropriate 'Passion Kit' was included as part of the room's mini bar. The view was nothing like the one depicted on their website: just a very clear vista of a building site, with only a glimpse of the Manhattan skyline off to the right. Communal hallway carpets were filthy and the decor gloomy. Outside, the surroundings resembled rolling construction wastelands, and on one evening two large rats welcomed us back as we entered the driveway. Hotel staff informed us that the rats had come from the construction site next door - which turned out to be their own expansion development. Our general impression was that the hotel is only interested in catering for those in their penthouse suites and patrons of the nightclub [see other reviews for more on that]. Definitely not a location for those with children or anyone who wants to experience a taste of New York City without the gritty bits.

Great view
The hotel its clean, the room is comfortable. The best part is the roof top. You can have dinner or party after dark. With a wonderful view of the city. The reason I didn't give it a five star, is because the staff wasn't friendly at all. Actually they made the atmosphere pretty uncomfortable for me.
