What a wonderful surprise this hotel turned out to be. Right in the middle of the Old Town with it's historic charm, winding cobble-stoned streets and cozy bars and restaurants. Only a few steps from the nearest subway station. The room was scrupulously clean and well appointed. Small, but very comfortable. I had a double room and my friend had a single room, and both were spacious enough and I would be happy in either. Very quiet. The buffet breakfast was one of the best I'd had, ever, with all you could hope for from even the largest of hotels. Served until well after 10am so great for the late risers. Staff were very friendly, helpful and generous with our checkout times - we were able to get an extra couple of hours without any problem.Additional nice touches included a personal welcome note with a small serve of brandy, and a little treat of chocolates and candy for Easter. Free wi-fi which works throughout the hotel and on multiple devices at the same time.I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent location in old town (gamla Stan). A short walk (2 blocks) from the subway, you can get wherever you want quickly from here, that is if you don't want to just walk and enjoy the sights on foot. The service is ok. I have only spent a few days in Stockholm, but to me, the hotel service matches that of the city; not unfriendly but not necessarily going out of their way for tourists either. Fine by me, but something I thought worthwhile to mention. The free breakfast is great! Definitely a good value in an expensive city.

I've stayed at the Victory twice now, the second time for my wedding anniversary. The service is great, and the staff were kind enough to recommend and book a nice restaurant for me for our anniversary dinner. The breakfast buffet was great, with plenty to choose from such as typical Swedish bread, meats, cheeses, and fish to yogurt, smoothies, fruit, juice and croissants. All with lovely Swedish coffee. The rooms are a little on the small side, and the collections of naval memorabilia make it look a bit like a museum inside, but you're welcomed with a small jug of brandy and a hand-written card - I can't remember the last time I saw that in a hotel! There's also a complimentary sauna in the basement after a long (or short) day's sightseeing.It's a five minute walk from Gamla Stan Tunnelbana (tube / metro) station, which makes it only 25 minutes from Arlanda airport if you take the Arlanda Express train to Stockholm Central Station (also known as T-Centralen) then one stop on the Tunnelbana to Gamla Stan. Even by the cheaper express coach (which also goes to / from T-Centralen) it should still be less than an hour away.I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Traveling alone to visit Swedish friends, I spent 4 nights at The Victory, late January 2013, and really enjoyed it. Its position in Gamla Stan (the oldest part of town) just a block from the nearest subway station is hard to beat, with the restaurants, shopping, and historic buildings all around.The hotel staff seemed genuinely friendly and helpful and I was pleasantly surprised to find a handwritten, personalized welcome note in my room, plus a small decanter of Madeira wine and two glasses. I knew from looking at their websites that the rooms are small at this old town hotel, so I paid a little extra to get a double room and found it plenty big enough for one or two people (at one point there were six of us in there with no problem).I always appreciate hotels that do not "nickle and dime" me with extra charges, and was happy with Victory's free wi-fi, free use of the sauna, and wonderful free breakfast. In addition to all the traditional Swedish breakfast foods, they also had eggs available scrambled, hard boiled and soft boiled each day, cooked tomatoes, and lots of butter, bread and a toaster so I could enjoy my traditional "English breakfast" when I wanted it. Lots of juices, milk, great coffee, all you could ask for.The hotel decor is amazing. Along with its sister hotels in the neighborhood, The Lord Nelson and The Lady Hamilton (Nelson's mistress), the Victory (Nelson's ship) was full of the family's collection of ship antiques, and each room in the hotel is named for a different ship captain, along with photos of the captain and a bit of his nautical history. Beautiful antiques were everywhere in my room and in the building, but with a nice mix of modern amenities.The breakfast room/restaurant has a very modern atmosphere, including glass walls that let you look into their wine cellar, and there's a rock wall preserved in place in the restaurant that remains from a tower that was on this site in the year 1300. Glass floor panels and lighting let you look below ground to the base of the tower, where they display pottery and other items found in the excavation of the site.They have a nice inner courtyard patio off the first floor (that's the second floor to we Americans) but it was snow covered while I was there so I didn't go out there, though I could see it had tables and chairs and would be a wonderful, quite place to spend time in better weather.On my final morning I had them arrange for a 4:00 taxi to the airport, so, without me having to ask, they prepared for me an early morning breakfast of coffee and orange juice, two Swedish breakfast sandwiches, two bananas and some cookies to prepare me for my long trip home. Wonderful hotel! Wonderful staff!

We stayed 3 nights at the end of Dec 2012. Rooms were just large enough for our party of 2 adults and child. Child's baby cot just fit at the foot of the bed.Nice large shower in the bathroom and very clean. We popped into the restaurant for dinner but they were booked up but they kindly served us a meal in the back lounge of the hotel which was very nice and private and nice so we could have a meal after a long flight and airport transfer. A special thanks to the restaurant staff for that.The hotel has a great collection of old antiques mainly related to maritime things but it was very unique - we really enjoyed the stay.Breakfast was include in our rate and had a vast selection. It was very good.Location was great for sight seeing in old town and close taxi to train station. I would stay again when I return to Stockholm.
