Unreached Potential
Before we begin, let us tell you about us. We are a young Canadian couple who often camp out in the woods with bare minimum, so we are far from particular. All we expect from a hotel room is cleanliness. And for 96 $ US, in the off season, we were sorely disappointed. The first room we were given, had no towels or toilet paper. That was fine, they gave us one towel and a roll of toilet paper. The problem is, it's hard to use the bathroom in the dark. They couldn't fix it so we asked to change rooms. In our new room, there was an used shower mat on the floor.The toilet was incredibly stained and the shower drain had an obvious mystery lump, and at the end of a quick shower, we were ankle deep in questionable water. In our sheets, we found quite a bit of sand. Wasn't sure if the sheets had been cleaned from previous guests as the sheets were heavily wrinkled.We had a full size fridge, however there was an open bottle left behind, and it was dirty as well.We were unable to address the issues because we checked in just before five and then had supper. The hotel also lacked a sense of security, especially since it was located in a mall in the heart of Soufriere. There was only one lock on our door and it wasn't a deadbolt.Also expect to be harassed by a few locals for money.On a positive note, before the staff left for the day, they were very helpful with our many questions about getting around the town. We had the ocean view, but depending on the room, you can get a beautiful view of the piton and harbor, or that and corrugated roof.Our recommendation, spend the extra few bucks and book a better hotel, and use the local bus to get to the tourist attractions, which cost between two to six ECs. Most of the locals were very friendly.Happy travels!

Basic hotel in a central location
We wanted to spend one night in Soufriere before returning back to the US and did not want to spend a fortune on a resort. This hotel was good for what we needed even though less nice than what we expected. It is right in the middle of the town away from tourist areas but just a short driving distance from all the natural attractions Soufriere has to offer. The room was basic but we had a nice view from the balcony. Locals seemed to be up and about until late at night and early in the morning and the room was not very sound proof. You need to climb three flights of stairs to get to the hotel which was not fun with heavy suitcases and street parking was a bit of a hassle. Staff was very nice. I would recommend this hotel if you just need a clean place to sleep over but not for a longer stay. I agree with all the comments from jrmwvu's review below.

Typical tropical hotel
This hotel is well located between the local and international airports on St. Lucia in the Caribbean. It is not a tourist area but a true local's town. I spent a night there before and after a sailing cruise. I would not advise staying there unless you want a view into the local flavor of the island population. The hotel was old, but well appointed. There was AC in each room. You have to climb at least three flights of stairs to the rooms. Security guard and desk clerk were very helpful. The locals hang out on the streets day and into the night. Unemployment runs 25% on the island. Very noise at all times. I felt safe, but out of my comfort zone, particularly as I was traveling solo.

Fantastic location
We spent 7 remarkable days in St. Lucia thanks to the Downtown Hotel. Initially my wife and i were a bit skeptical about staying there but after we booked our stay the fun began. The location is ideal, right in the heart of Soufriere were there's easy access to everything local! The staff and service workers are very professional, delightful and knowledgeable about St. Lucia. The beach is 5min walking distance. The Diamond Falls and Sulfur Springs are 10 min drive away. The hotel is ideal for exploring the island and having a relaxing time as well.
