The best aspect of this hotel is the location. It's walking distance to everything you want to see. The room was fine. Big comfortable bed, big clean bathroom and it was quiet. When we arrived we were worried about the noise from souvenir shops playing dance tunes from their doors, we didn't hear a peep. The entrance to the hotel is sort of shared with a posh glass shop. Is it a bit odd...yes, but is it an issue? NO! I would stay here again and would recommend for anyone.

The location of the hotel is amazing, right by the old town square. The room looked very shabby and didn't look like it was ready for any visitors. The light in the hallway didn't work and the TV was approx 20 years old and it wasn't initially even working as nobody bothered to check it and it was missing the satellite box. Most of the staff were quite unfriendly and there was no food served in the restaurant after 10pm. The breakfast was quite nice. Overall, the hotel was dark, dingy and very very dated. Wouldn't stay there again!

My partner and I have just returned from 4 nights at the U Kocku. Although we thought the photos made it look a little modest for a 4 star hotel, we had no idea the place would be quite so bad.I would stress that the location really is excellent, and that the staff (well, two of the three we encountered) did their best to help us where possible, but without having to think too hard, all of the following really don't put you in mind of a 'charming, four star hotel' (their website's claim). We could've easily forgiven one, two, three of these problems, but they just kept coming!We stayed in two rooms (the first night there was a lot of noise coming from the adjoining building, and the staff kindly moved us). In both rooms, the walls were grubby and marked.The toiletries were poor and cheap. Bathroom tiles severely cracked, and not very nice towels to boot.The TV initially was provided without a satellite box and had to be When it was installed, be aware that the vast majority of channels have no reception.The pillows are incredibly lumpy and old. We asked for extra pillows, and were given a strange look. Likewise, the double duvet seemed to be two single duvets stuffed in one casing.One member of staff was particularly surly and rude.We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening, but I had a drink in the bar - the most expensive beer I managed to find in Prague.The breakfast was very poor. Coffee kept cold, while frankfurter/liver products kept at room temperature/just warm. I don't know if this is safe, but it's certainly not nice to eat. Shower - dreadful. Not properly affixed to the wall, no pressure. Just appalling.In both rooms, at least one major light fitting wasn't working, which made the rooms feel even shabbier and more neglected.Though the hotel is warm, the windows let in a great deal of noise from outside, even when you're seven floors up.There is no internet - it doesn't advertise internet, but I think every single cafe we went to had it WiFi. Quite annoying if trying to plan a day out in the city. The entire place is under-loved and desperately in need of renovation. They call themselves a four star hotel, but it really did put me more in mind of hostels I've stayed in.To top it off, the walls are also very thin. Though not the hotel's fault, on our last night an incredibly loud party arrived on our floor, and we were kept up by their drunken conversations/screeching at 4am.

The Hotel was close to Old Town Square which is ideal if you do not have a car, the accommadation was value for money, the staff were helpful,and most of all cheerfull there was musical entertainmentand the breakfast was ideal for either english or continental. looking to go back again for a long weekend

This hotel could so easily be much better than it is. While not a bad place at all, it's let down by numerous details which, when added together, do take the shine off. First, the good points. Location location location. For exploring the Old Town on foot, it doesn't get any better. Right on "Royal Route" Charles St, it's a short walk both to the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge. Our top floor bedroom had direct views to the astronomical clock tower and Tyn church beyond. Our floor was served by a lift but I understand that not all bedrooms have lift access. Our bedroom was also spacious with a large comfortable bed, good sized wardrobe, large chest of drawers, and a desk & chair. The colour scheme won't be to everyone's taste and combined with the dark wood furniture made the room a little bit dingy, not helped by the one small window. We had a lobby for hanging coats and leaving shoes, from which led a door to the bathroom.This is where things began to unravel a bit. Due to the awkward roof line the shower attachment had no wall mounting meaning you had to squat or sit in the bath and hold the shower head above you. There was no shower curtain so unless you have the arms of a gibbon you will get the tiled floor soaked which makes it very slippery indeed. There was also a whiff of stagnant drains from somewhere which wasn't pleasant but not strong enough to complain about and risk being re-housed to a room with no lift access.Back in the bedroom, we couldn't watch TV as (a) there was no aerial connected, but even if there had been (b) the sat box couldn't be switched on as the wall socket was so loose there was no reliable contact for electricity. I tried wiggling it to no avail and the whole double socket was so loose it was coming out of the wall so decided I'd rather be drinking a beer than being treated for electric shock and gave up. At least the sockets were hidden behind the tall chest of drawers so little real danger of electrocution. Although I would expect a working TV set-up, we weren't overly disappointed as this is Prague so why would you want to loll about in your bedroom watching TV when you should be out in the streets taking in this amazing city's sights sounds and smells.Downstairs, the communal areas were spacious and the faded grandeur was quaint but a lounge area would have been more welcoming than row upon row of dining tables, mostly empty. I'm wary of any restaurant that employs schleppers to tempt people in off the street and uses a picture book as a menu, so we didn't eat here except breakfast.The breakfast buffet was adequate with a range of cereals, cold meats & cheeses, and a small hot selection of bacon, liver (yes, liver), sausages, boiled & scrambled eggs, and chips (fries) - yes, dear reader, chips for breakfast. No, I didn't try them. The scrambled eggs however were excellent, really nicely made and seasoned, the best I've had in any hotel at any price. On our 2nd morning we came down quite late (it was New Year's Day) and the scrambled eggs had all gone but they made us a fresh batch. Nice.Overall, it was a mixed experience. As a supposedly 4-star hotel it fails badly, certainly if you come to be pampered and indulged. I can't help thinking that its central location with endless supply of fresh guests has led to laziness and complacency. But if all you want is a comfy bed for a few nights, stoke up with a good breakfast, and not have to walk too far to the sights, then this place will do. Not so much a hotel as a (bad) restaurant with rooms, you'll be OK here as long as you don't over-pay and don't over-expect.
