Its slighty over priced
We were staying at the Iron Gate for a wedding which may have coloured my overall view slightly,the Iron Gate is a really well located hotel in Prague (old town) it is a wonderfull looking hotel with (in my opinion) fantastic rooms. Each room is decorated differently and we got a chance to see most of them and i liked them all to be honest,some are larger than others with seperate sitting rooms ,kitchens etc,all lovely decorated.For a 5 star hotel there is just something lacking in the overall deal you get in the Iron Gate.The breakfasts are not great and the breakfast room is small and can get packed.The staff were great,courteous informative and vey helpful.The rooms were kept clean and the hotel overall was kept clean and tidy.The iron Gate is in a great location for the tourist and is a good hotel just nmaybe not a 5 star hotel.

Too many stars around
We spend few days at the Iron Gate in April 2013 in a Royal Suite, but even considering the location and the aged building, 5 stars is far too high from what the hotel offers. even the price of the garage is a 5 stars: 30¿¿¿ a day ...out of reality when you can have a nice lunch for 4 perosns in town with the same price. Room was nice and clean, but unfortunaly no WiFi in room, and with 4 wifi devices is hard to keep connections.Forget the breakfast; the buffet is really poor and the room is so small that some time you have to wait your turn. No fresh juice and fresh yogurt, no fresh patisserie, fruit selection is poor and coffee is orrible. If you want to have a quite and relax breakfast dont go there, cause staff is noising rushing to clean tables to let other guest have their breakfast, and rock music is totally out of the atmosphere sld fill a location like this.We didn't use the restaurant of the htl cause we hear other guest complaining about it.Nice building, good location to vist Praha, but no value for the money they ask for. From a 5 stars hotel we expect much much more.

Cozy hotel in great location
We were upgraded to a larger room which was nice, so it had a sitting area. The sofa was not in the best repair, and the heating was impossible to control. It was very cold outside but the room was still very hot even after we turned the heat off for days! Its is a fantastic location- with many attractions, shops and restaurants a stone's throw away, so any negatioves were outweighed with the great loaction. We enjoyed our stay here, but it is a very old hotel, but therein lies some of its charm. The bathroom was spacious and quite modern, our bedroom rather cramped (had to maneuver around one of the beds, close the armoire door, to get to the bedroom door while trying not to hit your knee on the bed, you get the idea), and ues, the beds were hard. We had a courtyard room so it was very quiet. The breakfast was good but not outstanding. Some staff were more congenial and more helpful than others, but they were helpful with directions and in booking a few tours. Overall I liked the cozy feel of the place, and again, location, location!

Nice Hotel
My husband and I stayed in this hotel from 22nd March 2013 for two nights. On arrival I was at first very impressed, hotel was welcoming and warm and staff very friendly and built in the 14c just what I wanted. We arrived early and couldn't check in till 2pm but not a problem as they took our bags and we returned later. I had booked the Royal Suite, having spent hours looking at all the different rooms on offer but when we checked in we were given a free upgrade to their "best" room the Tower Suite. We were delighted BUT it was not all it was cracked up to be. The Tower Suite is laid out over 3 floors up very narrow spiral staircases, where the handrails stop short so you are left teetering on the last few steps. As a consequence we didn't use the top two floors as they were very scary (maybe not if you're in your 20s/30s). And the bed OMG soooo uncomfortable, just a wooden box (maybe made of plywood or chipboard), not slatted or sprung in any way, built into the room, so no room for getting in and out at the side and we had to climb in from the foot of the bed. The mattress was very much like the type I have on my garden furniture, much too thin for a decent night's sleep. I awoke each day full of aches and pains and glad to get out of bed. Breakfast again at first looked really nice but eggshell in the scrambled eggs, all the hot dishes lukewarm and the cereal is left out overnight. Formica tables with paper tablemats. Nowhere to sit and have a drink. On the positive side, very, very clean. Staff very polite. Really convenient for Town Sq with Astronomical Clock, St Wencelas Sq, The Jewish Quarter and the Bridge to take you to the Castle, all in walking distance. Metro (trams) also only a 5 min walk if you exit the hotel from the rear and these take you all over Prague. All in all if you're not too worried about what type of bed you sleep on then it's great. If you're over 50 and value your back and joints, it might be worth giving this a miss. By the way I did complain about the bed but the staff looked confused, so maybe all the rooms have this type of bed. Not a 5* more of a good 3* maybe a 4* as not enough amenities, poor breakfast and dodgy beds.

Winter in Prague
Stayed at this hotel mid March 2013. It is a really nice hotel 2 minutes walk from the Old Town Center and Astronomical Clock. Our room was huge with 2 full bathrooms, a living room, separate area with a writing desk, canopy bed and large closet. A full buffet breakfast was included with our room. Mid week there was no buffet but you could order anything you wanted. Most of the staff spoke English and everyone was polite and helpful at all times. A little trouble with the internet not working and I wouldn't suggest having your laundry done due to the cost but that could be said for any hotel really. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again for sure.
