If you are desperate
I note from the previous reviews that the hotel responds to comments around the dubious nature of its location by claiming cultural diversity and charming corners. It is disappointing to see hotels dismissing peoples concerns on a site such as this with such flippancy. I have had some great experiences with best western over the years, but they might like to consider how this approach to customer concerns fits with their feedback mechanisms. It is important to note that the most visible increases in industry type in the area in question is mini casinos and strip joints. This brings with it a certain undesirable clientele..... If you are travelling with family you will find this uncomfortable. Unfortunately most of the hotels in Munich are situated around this area due to proximity to the station and oktoberfest, so one is left with few options.The hotel is basic, and as regular clients of best western hotels, the most disappointing. Our non smoking room smelled of smoke. The bathroom had mould growing in the grout, and when we asked staff for info about a particular tour, we got something completely different..... My advice, pop across the border to Austria (Salzburg is good any time of year), better value and quality, base yourself there and do a day trip to Munich if you really want to see the museums.

Poor customer service, swanky neighborhood
The good: This hotel is clean and conveniently located just a block from the train station. My room was rather stark in terms of decoration, but it was sufficient. The bed was comfy, so no problem there.The bad: The service was dreadful. The staff were not friendly or helpful. Wifi went out when I was there and the staff refused to believe me or to do anything about it ("no one else has complained") or allow me to speak to a manager. Their computers are on a different system, which was working. Only when they directed me the "business center" computer and I told them that wasn't working either did they believe there was a problem. Even so, it took quite some time to get it fixed and even after that the wifi was spotty. You have to pay for wifi, but they would not take anything off my bill despite the poor wifi performance.This is also in a rather unpleasant neighborhood. I've been to Munich many times and have never encountered an area that left me so grossed out. Convenient, yes, but to get to the hotel you have to walk past casinos and a strip joint. Prostitutes? Yep. Restaurants? No. I wound up eating at the train station. It's a very busy area at all hours, so you feel safe -- strange, I know -- but that also means it's quite noisy.Finally, although the sign on the front door says the hotel is nonsmoking, the hallways and the rooms smell strongly of stale smoke, and my room had an ashtray in it.I would never stay here again. The youth hostel is a far better option if it comes to that.

Not sure if I will book it again...
The rooms are clean and ok in size. My room was on the 2nd floor opposite martial arts school. So I prefered to have the curtains closed at night time. Unfortunately, the room was poorly lit and the desk lamp was humming like a fridge. Housekeeping tried to change it, but that didn't work.Bathroom was clean, only the shower was mounted in a strange angle.A definite plus is the breakfast buffet. Staff is friendly and helpful.Location: I know, this is the train station area and like in every major German city, it attracts a certain kind of people. But here it's a little bit too much. Because of that, the street is noisy and crowded with a lot of strange looking gentlemen hanging around.If I was a single travelling woman, I wouldn't feel too well.

strange location
Nice to be literally down the street from the Hauptbanof main train station, but this is a questionable neighborhood. Lots of casinos and gentlemen's clubs line the streets. Couldn't find a laundromat or supermarket but nice 1 euro store (like a dollar store) around the corner for water, snacks, and extra socks. Rooms nice and clean. Minibar and laundry service a rip off. Wi fi was a joke and costs per day. Weird bathtub that was slippery and hard to get in and out of. And stay sway from lift #3, its faulty. Overall, a clean pleasant experience but nothing to write home about. Location to the train station is the selling point here.

Extremely poor and NOT thrustworthy customer service, Hotel Cristal
My Story with Hotel Cristal customer service goes likes this.I booked a room on Best Western homepage. 10 min after i have booked the room, my company changes my travel plans, and i do not need the room.I then ASAP call the customer service from Best Western and explaining them my problem. They tell me that i have to contact Hotel Cristal direct. I then call Hotel Cristal and talk to a person from the reception. I am told that they can not cancelled my booking, BUT because i have called them right away they will make an exception and cancelled my booking and NOT charge my credit card.So far so good, BUT when i receive my bill in the end of the month from my credit card, i can see they have billed me full price for the room.I think it is a mistake and write direct to the Hotel Cristal. I write them 3-4 times over a month before they reply. To make a long story short, they tell me that they will NOT refund my booking, because i do not have the name on the person i talked with the day i called them.If i had known from the start that they would not cancelled my booking, i would have given my room to one of my colleagues in Munich. The company i work for are based in Munich!I do travel a lot, and i have never seen so poor, slow and lying customer service.!!
