Recently stayed at Danford's in Port Jeff. I grew up in Port Jeff, so have always been a fan of its convenient location and its contribution to the village's overall aesthetic. On this last visit back home, however, I noticed just how much the current owner has neglected the property.There were rotting wood floor boards on the stairs and porches, lots of peeling paint and doors/windows that obviously are rusting out and just keep getting re-painted to hide the damage. Also, our guest room had a broken towel rack just hanging from a loose screw, and several of the electrical outlets simply did not work. Luckily we were there when the weather was nice, because the in-room A/C-Heat units also did not work properly. One of the units did not work at all, and the other was extremely loud and rattled like it was about to die and only intermittently produced cold air. My brother stayed in another room in the same building and his AC unit also did not work properly - it would constantly shut down & restart every 5-10 seconds. The front desk staff, for the most part, were very understanding and tried their best to address the issues we experienced. However, the housekeeping staff did not even clean our room on two different days, and the maintenance man who showed up to look at the AC unit did not even say hello when I opened the door to him - he just walked in and went to the unit and, after fiddling with it, got up and said "it's working fine now" and walked out. A continental breakfast was complimentary on weekdays, and was alright. But they only offer a buffet breakfast on Fri-Sat-Sun, which is pretty expensive for what they offer. In fact, when we attempted to have breakfast, they only put out a chafing dish with sausages & bacon, and another with potatoes. When we asked about eggs, they informed us that the person who makes omelets didn't show up. Ultimately we asked that the breakfast be discounted, and they agreed to do it. The parking is also a bit of surprise - the hotel charges $8/day to park, which is probably outside of their control since the lot is owned by the village, but considering that this was not explained to us at all until we went to the front desk on the second day, it was a bit disappointing to hear. At least they could just issue a parking pass when you check-in and build the cost into the rate...Overall, the location really can't be beat. And it seems like the front desk folks are at least trying hard to make up for the shortcomings of the facility and the staff. But, ultimately, I was disappointed by the stay. For $250/night (wk/ends) I felt they are completely are overpriced and only able to charge that much because there is no real competition. Perhaps they will take some of that money and reinvest to bring the property up to par, or maybe some national chain will bring in some needed cash to revitalize the property and get it to its potential. For now, though, you're better off staying in a B&B or just outside of town and using the extra money you save to enjoy the village a bit more.

We had a great experience, possibly the largest room we ever stayed in. We were lucky as we got to stay in the main building. Just loved the New England-harbor feel of the place. Although we did not try the restaurant we will next time. It also had a great bar. Definitely would stay there again.

They have 8 buildings, the one they put us in.... Well Let's just say it was less than I expected. I lived in this area for years, the outside this Danford historic building is beautiful but the building is only the restaurant. The rooms for rent surround the restaurant and look more like they belong in the projects. No refrigerator no microwave no elevator. I had to hike our luggage up two flights of stairs it was ridiculous. Save your money Port Jeff is really declining.

We had 3 adults staying in a room in the Admiral/ main building. The room was spacious with 2 double beds and a nice sitting area. The heaters are loud and need updating. The location is great right in downtown Port Jeff. I would absolutely stay here again.

We stayed one night in this lovely, old hotel. It is central to everything we wanted to see in town and right on the water. Everyone was helpful and friendly. We would stay there again in a heart beat.
