The Minaret Lodge could not come more highly recommended
My partner and I stayed at the Minaret Lodge recently as part of their Trails of Middle Earth package and we were absolutely thrilled with our stay. The accommodation was out of this world. The lodge was very clean and homely. We loved the self contained kitchen and impressive four post bed.The service at the hotel was also outstanding. Gary and Fran, who are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts, took care of us very well. Their breakfasts were delicious and their afternoon drinks were delightful. We enjoyed getting to know them and learning all about Wanaka from two very lovely locals. We had such an amazing time at the Minaret Lodge that we are already planning our next trip back. We could not recommend this place more highly.

A gem
I happened upon Minaret Lodge by chance, having been referred there on less than two days notice for a business meeting that was moved from Queenstown to Wanaka (we used their dining room as a conference room). I could not have been more pleased with the accomodations and service. As others have noted, the hosts (Gary and Fran) are very gracious and obviously enjoy what they are doing. They arranged for a pleasant lunch for our meeting to be catered from a local service on only a couple hours notice. Although the lodge is in excellent condition, they had workers there mid-week touching up the paint and other things because they were expecting more guests for the upcoming weekend. The rooms are cabins that are located in a large grassy area framed by trees, it is a tranquil setting and would be a lovely vacation stay. The rooms are well maintained and decorated and suitable for a couple. There is a small kitchenette sink with a refrigerator in the unit. The bathroom looks recently redone. The property is about a 10 minute stroll along a scenic lakefront path to the small town of Wanaka, where there are bar-type restaurants and a fairly large grocery market named New World where you can get reasonably priced premade salads. I have taken some pictures of the lake path. Although I did not take Gary up on his offer, he did offer to drive me into town, or the use of one of their mountain bikes.It is about a one hour drive over the mountains from Queenstown (about NZ$190 fare). I would love to return with family if I am ever in this (lovely) part of the world again, and would highly recommend Minaret Lodge.

Wanaka Top Spot
This was our third visit, and still just as good as the first. The breakfast dining room was enlarged making it lighter and roomier. Great service, Gary made and confirmed our diner reservation. Breakfast was excellent. All in all great experience again.

A lovely experience
Fran and Gary are excellent hosts and they have obviously put a lot of time and effort into producing rustic lodge accommodation with all the amenities you require to make your stay memorable. Little touches including pre-booking a restaurant for dinner on your first night was typical of the consideration they gave their guests. In our case Gary even drove us to the restaurant to avoid possible drink drive problems. The breakfast offered include a number of choices all of which were beautifully prepared. We also enjoyed the complimentary local wines and nibbles with Gary and Fran each evening.

A delightful Place
Purpose built superb cabins set in a large magnificent garden, with extremely pleasant and friendly hosts and wonderful breakfast. What more can one ask? That was forthcoming too; great advice on local attractions and allowed late checkout after activities. Highly recommended.
