A very average Hyatt Regency
Frankly, when I go to Irvine, I stay at the Hyatt Regency only because (a) its location is convenient, and (b) I want to protect my Gold Passport status. Otherwise, the rooms are tired, the restaurant is very basic, and the reception quite plastic.

Itch
Sunday, May 5, I came away from the Hyatt Regency with an itch on my abdomen. It itched and hurt at the same time. Maybe the hotel needs to fumigate room 424. I'm no doctor, but after visiting Kaiser, they gave me antibiotics and a cream to apply to the effected area.

Restful and Beautiful.
I attended a three day conference at the Hyatt Regency Irvine this past weekend. 1) The room was good sized, had lots of seating, which was nice when we had other guests in our room after a meeting. The bed was so comfortable that I slept far better than at home. I guess we need a new bed! We had a great view, too. It appeared very clean. 2) I LOVED that the meeting rooms were just a short walk from the elevators, which is very unusual. The main ballroom was attractive and comfortable. The chairs were comfortable which is important when meetings last the bulk of the day. There were plenty of elevators to deal with our very large group. 3) We only ate one meal in the hotel, and it was fabulous. We had wine by the glass and there was a good selection from which to choose, and it was priced reasonably for the quality of the wine and the size of the portion we were served.4) Parking was close by and relatively inexpensive compared to most upscale hotels I have stayed at. 5) While we were pretty involved in the seminar and not very involved with hotel staff, what little contact we had was exemplary. From check in, where we had great service (so quick) from the bells staff, to the maid who cleaned our room, to the bar, where we ate very late at night, everyone was great. Two people stood out in particular: Justin, a bartender, was very knowledgable about wine and very helpful. Andrea M. was terrific! She was warm and friendly and chatted with us for several minutes until she was called away to help in room service. I felt like I was getting special VIP treatment! I would definitely return, and recommend this hotel to others.

Disappointed
Stayed here for business. Looks great on the outside, service at front seat was very friendly and great. Stayed on the 4th floor after exiting the elevator carpet looked old and dingy, actually seen what looked like cool aid or wine stains on the floor. Room its self was average, again carpets old and dingy, bathroom cleanliness was okay not great. Walls are paper then could hear the guests next to me. And $25 a day for parking, yikes. Was disappointed by the quality, based on cost per night, expect a lot more from a Hyatt Regency. Will not stay there again on my next business trip to O.C.

The staff make the difference
I stayed here for a 2 day business trip. I arrived late but the front desk staff were cheery and very accommodating. The room is dated. The bathroom particularly looks like it came from the 80's or before. Where the "office" desk is, there is no set of outlets for your laptop and phone. The whole room is stuck in another time zone.The location of the hotel is great for many of the major roads and highways.I went to the business center which was laughable.First of all, the signage tells you to go to the mezzanine but it's not there.A very nice sales person laughed and said they needed to fix the signage and offered to take me to the 1st floor and show me the place but I figured I could find it myself.What I found was two kiosks PC's which were both for "rent" with a credit card.I've never seen this before in Hyatt properties.Even at a lowly Hyatt House or Hyatt Place - there is a room with free access.I'm not sure what they are thinking - maybe they are not thinking about the guests for a business center but this is a mistake.You can go to the Regency Club and ask the nice people there to use a PC to print your boarding pass.But, since the business center was a joke - I went to the front desk and asked if there was something else.I needed to print business documents, sign them, scan them and email them off.The woman at the desk just asked me to come around to her side of the desk and use her PC.I printed my documents, signed them and handed them to her.She went in the back and scanned them and emailed them to me.The difference about this hotel is the staff.I sat in the bar area for a dinner and wanted to read my book.The waitress was very friendly, attentive and not pushy.She was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the green bean appetizer which were dusted with something crunchy and roasted. They were delicious.The food and beverage manager came over unannounced and struck up a conversation.Where are you from, do you visit our property regularly, etc.She was just friendly and made me feel welcome in the hotel and a little more special than normal.Hyatt must be doing something very right about the staff.Everyone was terrific.Friendly service, making you feel welcome.Isn't that, after all, what the hospitality industry should strive for?
