The hotel staff was very friendly and the location puts you next to all the great restaurants downtown. You cant beat the value for such a clean and elegant facility. The only downside was the ridiculously tight parking garage.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Double Tree Downtown San Diego location. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and conveniently located just a short walk away from Little Italy where you will find a variety of dinning, shops, and cafes. The staff is exceptional at the Double Tree and they will go out of their way to make your visit an enjoyable one. They truly make a difference in your stay. I strongly recommend this hotel, it is a great value for the price.

Great customer service!!! The staff at this location was the friendliest and most accomodating group. The rooms were spacious (just wished the closet was larger due to extended stays) and clean. I would recommend this location to anyone traveling for business or leisure.

Not really up to the standard of other Doubletree hotels. The very first thing you notice driving up is the extremely tight parking structure. The attendant let us in and gave me a card. I took that into reception with me and was never told it was to remain displayed in the car. The attendant nor the reception mentioned this. Upon checkout I find a parking violation warning on my car. Really? That really doesn't give your guests the nice warm feeling after leaving your hotel. What if I stayed longer than just the weekend? Would my car have been towed?$25/night for parking is a little extreme. We found out that the parking lot across the street charges $10/24h for hotel guests. Plus if you have a mid-sized car or larger, you are probably better parking it across the street. We were actually in town for the San Diego Marathon. We asked reception if they knew how to get to the start line. The answer I got sounded like it was best to book a taxi, but I knew I picked this hotel due to location. I later did my own online research and found out it was only a mile away and we could walk it. Don't you think a major event like this, the hotel staff would be better prepared for questions? Your hotel is only a mile away from Balboa Park! And for someone who was planning to run 26 miles, 1 mile is definitely walkable.They had a pasta dinner special for the runners. We decided to try that out because it was going to be an early night. The service in the restaurant was fast, but the pasta buffet was a little disappointing. The entire atmosphere of the bar/restaurant is very cold as it seems to have been built in the middle of the hallway.The room was decent. I don't remember staying in a hotel with 2 double beds instead of 2 queen beds. Even the Best Western has 2 queen beds. Other than that, the obvious issues with lack of power outlets to charge devices, it was sufficient for us. No safes or lockbox in the room.The pool area is pretty nice. It's on the 5th floor on top of the parking garage I assume. The connected gym was also in very nice shape.The last major complaint were with the elevators. They are slow slow slow. We witnessed 25 people waiting for one of the 3 elevators at one point. I should have taken a photo of this. I think it's safe to say that I will not be staying at this hotel again in the future.

Great downtown San Diego location. Very close to Little Italy, Gas Lamp and Harbor. Very short walk to many great restaurants and bars. We did not eat at the hotel as there are many other far better places if your in town for pleasure. Rooms were very clean. Staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice harbor view from our balcony, and of course the hot chocolate chip cookies when you check in are the best. You don't need a car, but if you have one parking was easy and inexpensive in relation to most hotel parking fees in large cities, however the structure is narrow and low so if you have a large truck it will be tight. Our full size Toyota Tundra did fine, but it was close.
