Lovely property with lots going on!
We spent 5 nights on Oahu in the Rainbow Tower. Our Amer. Airlines vacation plan had us in a different tower, but upon check in we were upgraded to the 4th floor of Rainbow looking right down Waikiki toward Diamond Head. The Friday night fireworks were right off our balcony! Staff was more than accommodating. We never did eat the $30/person breakfast buffet but opted for Starbucks, Tropics Restaurant, items from the deli next door (Green something) or from ABC store on property. Small but adequate fridge, but access to a microwave would have been nice. We are not faulting the Resort, but we found the snorkeling cruise we booked on their catamaran (with lunch) was hardly worth anything. We saw a few turtles was all, and the lunch was just sandwiches. After many great snorkeling cruises in the Caribbean, we found this one quite awful for far too much money.

Beautiful Hotel
We were only there for an overnight stay but the hotel was beautiful. I wished we had several days to stay there. We did have a bad experience at check in. We travelled with another couple. Once we got upstairs to our rooms, we discovered they gave us both the same room number...neither one of our keys worked so we had to wait in the hallway for about 30 minutes until they corrected the problem

Nice place, but everything is very expensive.
So after much consideration and thought, my girlfriend and I decided to go on vacation at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We were in the Diamond Head Tower and our balcony had a view of the ocean (not a full, unobstructed view, but it was a nice view nonetheless) which was a pleasant surprise and the balcony was big enough for both of us to sit out comfortably each day. But, at nights, down below, they play loud music with a live band until 10 or 11 which kept us from sitting out on the balcony at night to relax, read, talk, and stuff like that. The room was nice and comfortable. Eating at the restaurants on the resort were disappointing. I found the restaurants to be extremely overpriced (Hawaii in general is extremely overpriced but I found the restaurants on the resort to be even one step above that) and the food not overly exceptional. The beach was ok except there were areas of lava rock in the water where you could hurt your feet. There are quite a few people on the beach and the pools are always full of people and you have to get there early in the morning to save yourself a chair or two to lay in for the day. They cost nothing though. Walking to the city center was just like a 15 minute walk though so if you don't want to eat at the resort then that's what you gotta do. The hotel service, however, was amazing. I've never experienced such great service in any/all of my experiences. They easily met any/all of our wishes and were so accommodating. One great thing about this place is that if you don't fly out until the evening but still need to check out in the morning that they have a place to store your luggage and will arrange a room for you to go shower later so that you can spend your last day at the beach or pool while still having the opportunity to clean yourself up later. The resort will always be operating at quite a busy operating capacity however. Overall, I don't regret this vacation to Hawaii or this hotel. But just be ready to pay 3-4 times what everything usually costs at the resort's stores and restaurants and such. However, this isn't necessarily a fair criticism of the hotel as all of Hawaii is so ridiculously overpriced. I would recommend the hotel but just know that there will be a lot of extra costs and that, because of all the people and the size, it is not necessarily guaranteed to be such a peaceful and tranquil vacation experience anywhere outside your room where there is always something going on.

Huge hotel with a ton of amenities in a good location in Waikiki!
This hotel is truly the gem of Waikiki.. It's adorned in brochures, tv shows etc etc.A historic hotel/location that has kept it's charm for years and years.. You truly can imagine Elvis Presley being there.There are a few towers.. The one we stayed in was the Tapa tower.. Nothing too crazy.. Pretty out dated.. Like i said.. You can still imagine Elvis staying there.. Just kidding! The tower although truly has an 80's vibe to it.. But in reality so does the city of Honolulu in general! That being said.. They can get away without a modern reno.So how was our stay? Interesting! 1st off.. Our room was pretty rough.. Needed a nice coat of paint.. One of the cabinets was propped up on one leg with a empty pack of gum.. The washroom wasn't in too good of shape.. While we were out and about one morning we came back to our bathtub faucet broken off.. Noticed when we 1st got there it would potentially fall off.. Well it didn't happen to us.. But it did for the cleaner! No biggy.. They fixed it immediatly.Another faulty thing was the safe.. The door wouldn't close.. We had to call them to fix it which they did... Later that 1st night we wanted to watch a movie only to find out we are missing the playstation which is used to watch the movies! No biggy.. We laughed it off as just a bad day for the hotel with this room.. LOL.We called the next day to inform them that we don't have a playstation.. This is where things got funny! A fantastic guy came to help us but was also informed to ask us the necessary questions I guess as apparently there should be one in there which means someone stole it! Wasn't us of course although we were questioned about it which was cool.. We were also informed that security would probably come pay us a visit to ask us more questions.. Never happened.. We received the playstation none the less.Hotel grounds were clean.. So was for the most part the hotel.. Our room was clean.Customer service was good! Sales people were pushy at times trying to get us to see a time share.. Offering free stuff etc etc. to spend a few hours with them.. We kindly declined a couple times.We met a guy that was fantastic working at the hotel! He was actually the guy who handled the playstation situation with us! He was extremely helpful and gave us great ideas and tips on places to go in Oahu! Was a pleasure meeting him!The beach located at the hotel is great! We tried the submarine tour which is located at the beach! It was alright.. We didn't see much.. Guess it depends what time of the day or season makes for a better experience.. Ours wasn't so worth the price.I also tried surfing there for the 1st time! Cool experience but interesting how it worked.. Asked one of the instructors when they were coming back in when they were going out again.. He then offered me a surfing lesson for half the price in cash rather than going to the hut to purchase.. Prob was shady which it appeared plus I got rushed into the water with like 10 mins of instruction when i saw the class doing the instruction for probably 40 mins! Instructors trying to make paper on the side.. Not hating.. Just should of done a better job of teaching so it never get's mentioned! LOLOverall.. The resort is huge.. Seems like they don't have enough staff to accommodate such a huge place.. Seemed slightly UN-organized at times but overall we enjoyed our stay! Honolulu is a magical spot!

A Great Stay
Honestly, we were a little hesitant to book due to some of the negative reviews. However, being a Hilton Honors member, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! We had an oceanview room in the Ali tower and loved it. We were able to see the Friday night Hawaiin show and fire works from our balcony. The resort is very large which enables you to have many options on dining and shoping. It was not an inexpensive stay but it was well worth the money due to the many amenities available.
