Fawlty Towers??
Hotel is extremity dated and rooms in very poor conditions, stayed in a suite for the price extremely over priced. Hotel require a $250 bond even when pre-paid for accommodation. It's is extremely high given there is also no mini bar. A sum of $100 would be more acceptable, mentioned to the check in staff, very rude and said its "what it is, if you don't like it don't check in".Breakfast in the morning was very poor absolutely no food in the buffet, mentioned this to the staff and it was 40 minuted before food was available. matradee apologised due to it being a public holiday and they were"Behind" in the buffet.Large line for check-out, very little staff in the desk.Would not stay at this hotel again, other reviews do reflect the dated state of this hotel.

Tired hotel, quite expensive
I booked for two nights in a one bedroom suite. The first room I was put in was on the 14th floor and the decor was very tired. Peeling laminate in the bathroom. Worn fabric in the sofa etc. the bed was very uncomfortable, I could feel every spring. I did ask if I could change rooms in the morning and was swapped to another room on the 11th floor almost immediately. The bed here was lovely and comfy. But again the decor was tired. Both rooms could have been cleaner. The sealant round the shower was mouldy, behind the bedside tables was filthy. The indoor pool area was again not very clean looking and not very warm. There were no towels available in the pool area either. The location was great, a 2 min walk from Queens St and Britomart transport centre. I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

Not grand at all
I stayed here for 2 nights for work last week. When I arrived on a bitterly cold evening I found the heating was broken. The night manager couldn't fix it, so I asked him for more bedding. He gave me 2 stained quilts to match the stained one already on the bed. The carpet was worn & stained, the drapes were very old & totally inadequate. The TV was very small and for some reason couldn't be seen from the sofa. On the plus side the room was huge, with full kitchen, and the location is very central. However I wouldn't stay there again

not what I expected...
when looking for a hotel in central auckland this came up the photos made it look amazing, we arrived at 5 min till check in....out room however wasn't ready for a further half hour (not ideal with a grumpy tired 4 yr old) we got to our room that was very tidy but the tv was a tiny old school tv we noticed some damage to room that had not being fixed the cutlery was layed out on a dirty place mat in the draw, the bed was one of the hardest beds I've ever slept on, I actually woke in pain and moved to the couch... the staff were ok nothing amazing I don't reckon so in all for the $190 ( including 30 parking 4 levels under ground) I don't think it was worth it at all,even if it's central Auckland.

Grand Chancellor Auckland
Stayed there on a Friday night recently. Stayed in room 213 (from memory). Room is fairly spacious, and clean and tidy. Hotel and room are one of those that are sort of past their "use by date" but overall still good to stay at. The hotel is on the cornier of two very busy streets so you're unlikely to get a quite night in bed - we didn't! The telly was a 19" computer monitor type thing!!Staff were OK, but I have experienced better.I guess when you go here you get what you pay for. Rates are very reasonable and if this is in your price range then I wouldn't recommend against a stay here. Certainly very central in Auckland, so you can walk at most places.
