Good and not-so-good
I stayed here for about 3 days then got turfed off to sister resort Manathai as they were gonna renovate Bel Air. Disclaimer: Post renovation, i dunno what its gonna be like.Good1. Full length lap pool!! I find thats a rarity in hotels. The mild downside of this pool is that at its narrowest length, its good for 2 people side by side. As i stayed here during the non peak period, there was no one else using the pool. Good sun exposure. A couple of units have pool side access - can be a convenience and can also be weird if you swim pass occupied units. There's a second pool that is more for lounging. I usually swim without googles in my own country's public pools but i had quite significant chemical irrritation here. Bought a pair of googles (from Phuket Town) and that solved it. Bring a pair if you intend to swim.2. Quiet place - both a pro and a con. If you wanna write your memoirs - good. if you wanna party, not so good. Maybe things are different in the peak season.3. I got upgraded to a ?suite - the kind with kichenette and 2 bedrooms/bathrooms. Everything works pretty well save the TV reception (which i think its endemic in Phuket). Aircon in the living room is a little weak but the master bedroom's AC makes up for it. There are 2 sun chairs in the quite generously spaced balcony. Fridge (with complimentary drinking water -thanks!) , safe, kettle - the usual. Average1. Breakfast - the average standard egg station, toast, sausages, fruits, juice, coffee and some local staples. Enough to get you going but not going to make culinary headlines.2. Service - i think its because of the 'land of smiles' hype, hence a visitor's expectations are usually a little high. I find the service reasonably competent and efficient but not gushing friendliness. Partly contributed by low manpower i suspect. The ground manager seems to be always on duty. Room service takes a few tries to get them to answer the phone - i attribute it to low peak season plus the upcoming renovations. 3. Gym - one universal cable machine and 2 treadmills, 1 bike and 1 ? elliptical? Also 1 gymball. I simply found it too hot to treadmill (it could be just my fitness level but i was doing fine in Cameron Highlands). Even with the AC on. i think the large glass windows and Phuket temperature makes it like a greenhouse. Maybe they should try to grow something... I had fun on the cable machine though.4. WIFI - confined to lobby and patio (pool area), though i could pick up a weak signal from my room on the 5th floor if i stayed near the balcony. I guess thats why i see touchscreen games- addicted children hanging out in the lobby everyday...Poor1. Location - while there is laundry and basic grocery shop just next door, the nearest 'town' is Cape Panwa, which is much quieter than Patong or Phuket Town (understatement). There is a ferry service to Cape Panwa (and also to the hotel's beach which ironically i didnt check out). The high taxi cost in phuket does make it prohibitive for frequent jaunts to Patong/Phuket Town. Of course if you are writing your next bestselling novel, then this is possibly an advantage. There are a few eateries nearby. I got dropped off once by the ferry service nearby for lunch - while walking back up and downhill in the noon sun was memorable, however, i wouldnt want to do that too frequently. Takes a toll on the laundry.2. There are bugs in the open areas e.g. mosquitoes on the patio/pool area, but i have subsequently encountered worst. A little bit of insect repellent here and it was tolerable. 3. The layout is a little bizzare. I needed to use two different elevators to get to the lobby block where the breakfast/gym is. Getting to the lap pool was even more confusing. Minor annoyance.

Lovely resort in a quiet location. Not in main tourist area!
We had an interesting experience at Bel air resort. We purchased our accommodation as a voucher through deals.com.au. This included 7 nights accommodation, breakfast, cocktail vouchers, meal voucher, massage voucher and an elephant ride. Nothing was mentioned about the elephant ride voucher which I didn't mind because it is just plain cruel. Every morning we were able to go to the restaurant and have a lovely buffet breakfast which included eggs cooked by a chef. The pool was lovely and relaxing and there is a bar at the pool that sells food at drinks. There is also another pool on the lower level. We used our spa voucher and had a Thai massage each which was lovely. I wish I'd had more time to have more treatments! Staff are helpful and friendly, always saying hello. As the resort isn't in the main tourist area of Phuket (panwa is approximately 45 minutes away from patong/Phuket town-700 baht for a taxi)- staff don't speak English and I don't speak Thai so communication was a bit difficult. However, we don't speak Thai in Australia so can't expect English to be spoken in Thailand! The resort had a private beach club that you can take a free bus to, which leaves every 2 hours from 9 am. This was great and the beach was lovely until we were left there until 7pm when the beach closed at 5 because the driver went home and forgot about us, which resulted in a very confusing phone call to reception to explain that we were stuck!! The bus also takes you to cape panwa which has an aquarium (very cheap entry) and a lovely bakery (try the macaroons!)The cocktail vouchers that we received were for one each every day. This didn't quite work out when none of the staff members knew how to make cocktails. Our vouchers were able to be used for beer/soft drink instead (except they were confused and tried to charge us upon checkout). The room was huge with two bedrooms, kitchen, balcony, spa bath etc. air conditioner worked well and our room was cleaned thoroughly everyday during which time we received fresh towels and bottles of water (you cannot drink the water). We didn't book any tours through the resort, finding it easier to book online ourselves. We did a city tour and a phi phi island tour. There is free wifi in the lobby and on the patio near the pool but not in the rooms (unless your room overlooks the patio!)Across the road from the resort there are taxis so it is easy to get into the Phuket centre or panwa. We went to jungceylon shopping centre and the market in patong which was thoroughly enjoyable. Airport pick up went smoothly for an extra charge but was easy for us as we had never been to Phuket before. Take mosquito repellant, I was covered in bites from the beach club and patio areas. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. Everything is just so cheap in Thailand, the resort included. If you are looking for a place that is in the middle of the tourist area, this is not for you however if you are looking to relax in a lovely location that overlooks the port, you should try bel air!

Not recommended because of rude staff and bad service
We booked 3 bedroom apartment for 10 nights. Arrived late because of flights timetables and shucked by the way of the receptionists. They were very rude and impolite. We were discussing that our booking includes breakfast for 4 adults and 3 children below 10 years but they refused and forced us to pay for accommodation and breakfast for 7th peron without even provide extra bed because they said that this apartment is desinged for 6 persons. Also our booking includes free wifi and they refused to provided without extra charge. Second point level of cleanilness was very boor. They didnt change towels or bed sheets untill we asked them to do it after 4 nights. You have also to ask them to provide soup toillete papers and shampoo. Also house keeping dont clean some places without asking like balcony or under dining table and dont vacume. Third point is breakfast buffet is poor and doesnt have choices. Last point is location. Its far away from beach. About 10 minutes by car. Also people with difficulties in moving or old people will face problem with entering or exiting hotel because of its hights. The transportation they provide is open pickup for every two hours and also hard to use for disabled or old people. Overall, our stay in this hotel was horrible and i dont think that i will be back there. But this doesnt mean that the island or people there are the same.

Staff steals from your room
Please excuse the bad grammar in this review. Worst place I have been a guest through more than 30 visits to Thailand last 20 years. Bel Air are an upscale establishment with suits only, all look very delicate on pictures. Our was + 100 square meters, every room (4) was dirty with breadcrumbs all over, the floors was tenacious. I complained ask for a new room but no, they sent a maid with a broom who swept the floors!!, easy solution but the floor was still tenacious. Next step was to put 3M yellow stickers on the worst spots call here back with soap and water this time, she clean the spots only not the whole floor. People dressed with Speedo, no skirt was let in to the restaurants, some with "airbags" at the size of airships, not very delicate, did not actually sharpen peoples appetites. The worst part! Staff steal from the rooms,I left my phone in the living room for my be 5 min.The time used walking to and from the parking eara. In the car discovered I left the phone walk back and the phones was gone. Guess it was the maid who was guilty of take it away because I met her on the way out from after filling up the minibar. Minutes later I open my notebook log on to ecloud located the phone on the way out from the hotel. Big this hotel I used my car up to reception era on top of steep hill, presented my case and the ecloud site. What happened? I was told they don't believe my story must have lost it myself!! I pointed back to the map because the blue pin still move inside a small village across the street from the hotel. No one lifted a finger to suggest any help in the matter. As a visitor in Thailand I didn't want to knocking doors alone in the village, guess 0 of the people speak any English down there so that project was not very temptation to get involved in.I got one advice from the extreme unfriendly staff, go to the Police they have procedures in this matters. In my opinion that was the only truth i get from them, with 25 min drive to the Police station and get through the bureaucratic inside their premises take time a lot of time, I did not have time because my phone was moving. Decided let it go not waste more calories, visited a store buy a new have go through all the fuzz changing passwords with more did not improve my mood. The Police visit was postponed that day. Visit next day and report report the steal, when I show how to find my Iphone function the Officer agreed with my comment about the staff. MY ADVICE ARE: DO NEVER EVER EVEN CONSIDER BOOKING THIS HOTEL.

Great stay with family but lack service
Great place for families. We had a 2 bedroom place with nice balcony. A quiet and relaxing holiday. The staff/ management definitely need some upgrading.. Most staff speak poor English. Food/ drinks order always get confused and wrong..We've been to Phuket 2/3 times already, we understand the difference between Panwa/ Kata/ Patong. We could put up with the poor service. The food is always good in Phuket. There are a few local restaurants/ laundry place/ convenience store outside the resort. Can't complain :)A friend who owns the apartment reserved a suite for us, so it's free accommodation! Cannot complain :)
