You get what you pay for
Bought a package through deals.com Great budget family resort. Rooms were really good size for our family of five. Layout of the resort is great. Staff were not what we were used to having lived in and visited Thailand many times. But as another person stated I think that it is due to the attitude of the majority of this hotels cliental. Staff seemed surprised when we said good morning.Restaurant was a bit grubby for my liking, breakfast was basic buffet but the food that we ordered off the menu was always good.I personally wouldn't stay here again. But great if you want to do things on a budget. Great location. We hired a car so getting around was a breeze.Can recommend visiting Tom Yum Goon just outside the Laguna Resort and the Regge Bar next door to this.

Checked out early
As documented by other travellers, we booked this resort through Deals.com and had read reviews and knew what to expect. While there is nothing wrong with the hotel and its facilities, it is definitely not geared at Australians. No children's activities were in English. We upgraded to a pool access room (for $27/night which was worth it) because all my 6 year old son could do was swim as he couldn't understand any of the kids entertainment. The room was fine if a little worn (house cleaning was either very late or slack). Having the pool access room meant we didn't have to fight for a sun lounge and the Royal wing is quieter than the bigger pool. The breakfast was not very impressive and no variation from day to day. The beach was ok but we didn't swim in it as it was too rough and we could see rips (didn't stop others though).This being our 4th trip to Phuket, we knew what we were missing by staying here. There is very little in the way of restaurants wihin the local vicinity (without a trip up the road to the main area) and very little shopping. For this reason we checked out 4 days early and booked a hotel in Patong which is 30-40 mins drive away. We would have been pulling our hair out if we had of stayed another 4 days!While there is nothing wrong with the hotel, it is just out of the way and not convenient for the type of holiday we like. We will know for next time and would definitely not book here again.

Great family stay
Plenty to do and see, all staff are friendly. Got a great deal through Deals.com which included breakfast every day, free internet in our room and late check out. My only complaint has to be a certain nationality who seem to swarm here, rude, loud and inconsiderate, but staff are friendly no matter what nationality. Beach is a walk away, with huts right on the beach so you can have an hour massage, manicure or pedicure at a very good price. 10-15 minute walk to the local shops where you can buy food if you dont want to eat at the restaurants. Keep in mind that there is no oven, just a microwave.

Pro's and Cons
Stayed for 8 nights in Feb 2013 and the resort was full. I had read a few reviews so kind of knew what to expect. I'll start with the pro's : Good location on a long beach with powder white sand and doesn't shelve so steeply so good for families with young chldren ( during February anyway !! ) although bear in mind that these beaches / seas can change dramatically according to season so do your research. Plentiful restaurants along the beach if you get bored of the hotel. Large swimming pools for both adults an children. Evening entertainment for the children.Cons : Rooms - we had a family studio (7112) which although adequate for our needs was very dark and really in need of a makeover. It was a ground floor room so we tended to keep the curtains closed otherwise we would be on full view to all that walked past, and the lighting was insufficient for such a large space. One end of the room had a kitchenette but this area was very dark and a light under the overhead unit, above the sink would have been very useful.The bathroom was ok but again gloomy as there are no windows, and every evening a terrible stench of sewage came from the wasteplug. Towards the end of our stay the aircon also wasn't cold enough but I didn't bother complaining as we only had a couple of days left. I noticed that the gardens in front of all the other buildings were well tended but ours was a small separate building and the small garden space between us and our neighbours was rather unsitely with a couple of old flip flops and a plastic coke bottle discarded there and not removed - also no grass or flowers. This is clearly an area that is continually overlooked but something that you would expect the hotel management to pick up on ( maybe they will now ! )There are two restaurants but we only ate in the main one as we had small children. There is a free buffet for under 12's but my nine year old girl took one look at what was on offer and decided the adult menu would be her choice. I'd say the free buffet is more suitable for the under 5's. In general the food is reasonably priced and reasonably tasty, in particular the thai food which was generally available for about 180 / 220 baht per dish. Breakfast was a nightmare due to the sheer volume of guests tooing and frowing between the buffet and their tables. I've holidayed in Thailand many times and never have I seen this many people - it was more like what one would expect to see in a packed hotel in Magaluf in August !! Having said that, there was never a delay in getting seated. As previous reviewers have noted, this is a Swedish hotel group and the Sunwing Bang Tao Beach has almost none of the Thai charm that I have found in so many other resorts. There were a couple of bars - one in reception ( hello !! ) and another next to the kitchen and main restaurant - again very poorly positioned so left empty most of the time. This beach has great sunsets so why they didn't position a large bar adjacent to the beach is a mystery and in my opinion a opportunity missed. So, overall, not bad if you have a young family as the facilities are geared up for that, but if you're looking for a quiet haven a tranquility - look elsewhere..

Kids hotel
Big friendly kids hotel close to beach about 15 meters. Big swimming pools but no slide. Rooms are ok but should soon be upgraded, No free wi-fi, only in the lobby. Nice location but nothing special to do in the evenings.We stayed in room 6315 and its close to the beach, Balcony and room with sofa.Beds are too hard. Shower is not working in the evening when everybody is showering.I think all kids like this place if you are in the age up to 13-14,Breakfast could be better, they didnt manage to serve the warm food, it was always half cold.Dinner and kids menu was ok, nothing special, and not very warm.Aircondition in rooms too loud.Good for relaxing with kids but I would never recommend for couples or older people.
