Relaxing escape
We arrived early at around 6.45am and didn't expect a room to be ready. The lady at reception suggested we go to breakfast and she would ring when one was available. We got the call around 8.00 which was a pleasant surprise. Our bags were in the room and we had a third floor room near the hotel Chapel. Great view and proved to be a very quiet location during our whole stay of seven days. The room was a good size and was very clean and everything worked. We had no problems with room servicing as some other reviewers had. All in all the staff are fabulous and go out of their way to assist. A couple of times things took a while to happen but this was the exception. The lagoon buffet breakfast was pretty good except for the local birds which would land on any unattended table and help themselves. some days it was a bit chaotic with lots of kids running around.. We sat out on the deck area which was quieter but had the birdsto contend with. .Salt restaurant was better with some really nice views out over the water. V Restaurant was better again although totally indoors. The service and food here was a cut above the others. This is a really nice hotel but like a lot of Fiji it is aimed at families with young children.(Stay and eat free) The same thing happens out on the islands as well so can't complain too much. We both still enjoyed it very much and there were quiet spots you could find is you so desired. The Hilton next door was one such place. And yes we would stay here again.

Amazing Fiji
My husband & I, daughter, son in law and two grand children have just had 10 days at Sofitel Fiji an amazing resort. We had no problems with any staff - all friendly and helpful and our rooms well cleaned every day and grounds immaculate. Our rooms were on ground floor excellent for kids to play and hunt for Cane Toads at nite" The pool is amazing and the water slide a real adventure (always busy) We had a breakfast deal which was great plenty to choose from and yummy. Eating out at Denarau Marina is cheaper option $7 to take a taxi or Bula Bus $8 per person. which is cool kids loved the Bula Bus.

great for kids
We just came back from Fiji and stayed at the Sofitel in denaru for 10 days.Yes the water in the bay is brown but island tours are often and we went twice what a treat and the water is clear and perfect out there.I have three children from the ages of 8,6 and 3 my experience on holidays is if the kids are having a great time they don't bother the parents well I did not once hear I am bored or what can will do. the activity staff were ten out of ten they kepted my children well entertained and asleep by 8.00pm every night so me and my wife had our own time. We had two rooms and were facing the beach, paid for it but will do it again for my kids loved there own room aswell as my wife and me.The Sofitel caters for all but the pool and slide is great for kids and hence there are lots of kids.this was our first time at Fiji and we loved it. The buses are good to get to town you only pay 1.15 Fijian that cheap and also buses run all the time and it is a cheap form of transport. We also caught taxis but you have to bargain with them its only natural for any cab to over charge you in Fiji or in any other country if you have travelled then you would know but its all a experience and don't forget your on holiday part with it or stay at home.

Pretty Disappointing for the money you pay
To anyone thinking about coming to Fiji I would suggest you DO NOT STAY AT THE SOFITEL DENARAU. You pay top dollar to be spoken to rudely every time you call the reception or go and speak to someone face to face. Had to ask at 330 for the 4th time for our room to be cleaned only to have it done poorly again. They didnt replace the soap and not enough towels. Last night had a woman come in to tell us she ran out of the complimentary water they give you. Thanks for that. The woman that checks you in at breakfast is a real treat to. So rude. Only nice staff are the hardest working ones and probably the lowest paid. The clean up staff at breakfast. The maintenance people and grounds people. Do not waste your money coming here. We stayed at so many not as fancy hotels a fraction of he cost and got treated like kings. Spoken to pleasantly, greated every day by name. Doors opened. Here no one cares. They just act fed up with their jobsThe place is just full of Australians who have obviously got package deals to take their kids so breakfast was a busy mess and one morning we had to wait over half an hour for a tableAt arrival i had no help getting my bags out of the car. I am a young woman and the porter men standing there looked at me taking my bags out of the boot and said you can just put them to the side. ignored me when i asked 3 times for a trolley we were then told to go park our car ourselvesThe check in staff were rude and wouldnt help us with getting a room more convienient for us. my father needed one on the ground floor. we were told we would have a wait even though it was already after our check in time.Staff were lazy and when our tv wouldnt work the reception staff said they would call back and never did.after waiting for the room for about an hour we arrived to a room roughly cleaned with other people's hair still left in the bath which was left wet and then when i opened my towel after showering I found a long pubic hair sticking out of the towel. The fitness centre was also very grubby. It looks like the equipment never gets cleaned. Horrible sweat stains all over the machines and sweat smells. The machines were also quite rusted, probably from the sweat never beign cleaned off.The air con never seemed to work well in there eitherAlso the aircon inthe bedrooms is a huge pain. It only turns on when there is movement in the room. When yoou are asleep it seems to turn off and get hot and stuffy quite quickly in there. There is no way to manually have it on which is horrible if you have been out all day then come home to a hot room that takes over an hour to cool down. The bathroom was also overally small. Very cramped. if you had a family with kids it would be a painThere is also no ceiling lighting. Only a light at the door entrance, really bad lighting over the 1 mirror over the sink (too dark to do your makeup properly) and 3 out of the 6 or 8 lights over the bed. My side of the bed had 3 of the light bulbs taken out. The room was very dark

be clear on what you are wanting!
The Sofitel was 2nd last of the Denaru hotel's that we have tried over the last few years so we knew to make our requests in advance, and in writing (email)We had requested in writing a top-floor, ocean-view room AWAY from families and children. Recognising that requests are just that, but we had asked 6 days prior (from in-country) and it is not high season or school hols.On check-in at 2pm, discovered given a ground-floor room near the pool. Reiterated our request, our email was located, were advised would be at least an hour. No problem. Off we went to the Port for fabulous lobster lunch at Cado's.Back again at 3.30. Escorted to room. Top floor, tick. View, erm, no - only of the service bures in front with distant ocean glimpses! nowhere near children???....um, does directly facing the children's waterslide plus a family wth 3 littlies next door count???Discussed with the Duty Manager and eventually re-located to the next floor down directly facing the ocean.Staff have been lovely, but this resort seems to be very skewed towards families - which is a massive positive If that is what you are seeking. The King bed is stunningly comfortable and if you were only here to sleep would make the entire experience worthwhile. Both our rooms just slightly on the shabby side with areas of carpet lifting and in the relocated room, our bin containing the previous occupants rubbish. The toiletries are lovely - pure fiji - the towel a bit ordinary and on the small side, plus only one each which is not the norm for a 5-star ranked hotel.Robes and slippers provided.Massive negative for the fixed air-con system. The lowest setting is 22 degree's and locked to ensure no lower. You can increase temp but cannot adjust the fan setting.Highly unusual in a hotel of this level - I don't care too much bout the air-con in the daytime as love the heat and humidity, but at night I NEED to sleep 'cold' so even at home, have aircon cool at 18 degrees, high fan, so can snuggle up under the covers and not be disturbed by my mister's body heat. The noise from luggage trolleys being wheeled up and down at all hours of the day and night somewhat intrusive as well as the echoing noise from people chatting as they work up and down enroute to places - but rectified by using iPad 'ambient noise' app ( at night so not disturbed)So, kinda a mixed bag.I won't be returning but that is purely because of my expectations based on other hotel experiences in the area and what I am seeking as a "couple" not a family.
