Centrally located, clean & well laid out flat
Hubby and I stayed in the Meridian for 7 nights in May. If TripAdvisor did half stars, we would rate the apartments a 4.5 stars. We had flat 16A and it was well laid out, with a separate bedroom and lovely view of the pool & flying foxes swooping around at dusk. The room also looked like it was recently updated and we very much felt at home with the decor. As we had a rental car, it was extremely helpful to have the underground carpark (free!!). Bed and linens were all super comfy and the aircon/ceiling fan combo worked well in all areas. Location could have only been improved by about half a street since that's how far we were from the High Street. In short, location was excellent and this was the best looking room we stayed in during our multi-centre trip to Oz.We dock the Meridian half a star for the fact that the maid service wasn't daily. Now for towels and sheets we really don't mind since we prefer not wasting the water cleaning towels after 1 use and prefer a bed messy. Where it falls down for me is in the toiletry department, particularly shampoos and conditioners. I also worried that crumbs, recycling and trash could attract ants or other creepies. Also, there wasn't a sponge to wash dishes and we had to source some laundry detergent. All of these things I have found in well serviced apartments without having to bother reception, who I am sure would have been helpful had we asked.Another point became a bit of a peeve of mine, still charging for WiFi access. We paid $40 for a week or 5000mb, which ever came first. It was slow and a pain to log in each time and was only available on 1 device at a time. Given hubby and I each have a smart phone and we were travelling with a netbook, if I am paying for something, I certainly expect to use what I paid for concurrently. I really do bristle at paying extra on top of the room for internet access.If you go into this with the expectation that it's a half-serviced flat, you will not be disappointed. It is well designed/decorated and excellently located.

Great apartment
We stayed in a Studio Superior with Jacuzzi at the Meridian Port Douglas for just under a week and had a lovely time. Our room was brilliant and as we had a hire car the underground car park was very convienent. The staff were all friendly and happy to help with any problems that we had. John organised a day trip out the the Great Barrier Reef for us before we arrived - thank you! The location was also ideal - a short walk to Macrossan Street and great for exploring the surrounding area in our hire car. We wish we could of stayed longer!

Great Holiday Apartment run by accommodating hosts
John, Sue and staff operate a really nice place here. We arrived here to our studio apartment with a Jacuzzi which was exactly what we had booked, but upon seeing the other options we decided a ground floor one bedroom apartment with pool access would be better for the week. No problem, we upgraded and enjoyed the pool access. (Not that anything was wrong with the studio option).We been pretty busy at home before we left and had not packed a mobile phone charger. No problem there, Sue lent us one. John tipped us off with all of the better value eating options in town and we used their booking services for all of our activities. It is very central, sitting conveniently half way between the beach and Dicksn's Inlet and one block back from Macrossan Street. Great location.This is a great place to chill out at and I have no trouble in endorsing all of the previous recommendations for this accommodation.

Our visit to Port Douglas and the Meridian Hotel
We spent a few days at the Meridian and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is a condo type with clean and well maintained rooms and grounds. Each room has its own washer and dryer which really helps when you are on a long trip. The manager John was very helpful and accommodating. They provide a fair amount of groceries for breakfast. Ours consisted of Musuli, yogurt, milk, orange juice and a fantastic loaf of whole wheat bread. The hotel is well situated and a short walk to most anywhere in downtown Port Douglas. The pool area is really nice with outdoor cooking available. The landscaping and upkeep around the pool is great. This place is a fabulous place to stay.

Make sure you understand "apartment" style
Great location however the ac did not work very good and there was never anyone at the front desk to help you. We checked in at 7 pm and they were already gone. They did not have anyone there in the morning until 9am. Being from the us we did not understand apartment style when we booked so we were surprised to find out they did not clean the room or even provide fresh towels each day. The room was clean enough but we would have picked a different HOTEL had we know what we know now
