ok, with a few issues
Average room with very soft matrasses. The bathroom was clean but looked a bit outdated (with a very small sink). Room was a bit noisy (no double glazing and room above what i think was the kitchen). On our first morning the breakfast was ok, but the second day we had the impression that the croissants and ciabatta breads were from the day before. We contacted the concierge about visiting the albatross and penguins on Otago peninsula and he told us there was no need to book ahead because it wouldn't be very busy. Luckily we did book through the i-site because by the time we got to the penguin place the tour was fully booked.

Comfortable Bed
We spend 3 nights at this hotel - Friday to Monday. The king bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and looked like it had been refurbished reasonably recently as decor and furnishings looked quite new. The electric heating was efficient and thermostatic controls were easily understood. Our room faced High St and with no double glazing we experienced some road noise on the Friday night however other nights were fine. The hotel is handy to many attractions and is only 3 blocks from the Octagon. The carpark was busy on the Friday and saturday night so we were put in the casino carpark - that was fine. Didn't eat at the restaurant as we were mainly busy with family events. Staff were friendly and provided good service.

We had two rooms (adjoining), rooms all we needed for the two nights stay, internal door was locked to adjoining room which was a pain having to go out to corridor every time we wanted to go see our other family members reception staff said they would unlock it for us but it never happened. Beds were comfortable, rooms we found to be too dark even with all the lights on at night. We had one breakfast in the restaurant down stairs was ok quite average for the price, day two we decided to have breakfast at a near by restaurant for half the price and much nicer. Car park was full both nights so we used the overflow casino car park which was fine , we were there for my daughters graduation and found the hotel to be nice and central and able to walk to most places. Staff friendly. Didn't use pool or spa

Unexpected find in Dunedin
Having had poor experiences in Dunedin before, delighted to find a lovely, properly 4 star hotel in Dunedin city centre. Got a great deal in a superior king room, on 6th floor so minimal traffic noise. Clean and well maintained. Only issue was sink and counter in main room (not in bathroom), and light was linked to the toilet, so whole room lit up when my husband had to put on light in the night to use the toilet. Separate lights and it would've been perfect! Didn't eat there but there is a cafe and a restaurant in the hotel.

Top Service
I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service I received by the staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was a bit dated but it was clean. The ham cheese toasty was an excellent price at $10. What lets this hotel down is the lack of air-conditioning and that there was no bottle opener in the mini bar and not enough in the entire hotel to level one in my room. I would have used more from the mini bar if it didn¿¿¿t involve ringing reception every time I wanted to open a beer. They should attach one to the wall if there is a problem with people pocketing them.
