Great for Dupont Circle
We stayed at the Churchill for four nights while touring Washington DC, right during Spring Break 2013. Our "Standard King" on the 4th floor was a decent size and had comfortably fit a roll-away bed (used by my brother for one night). There wasn't much of a view in our room but if you're in DC, it's pretty much a crime to NOT go out and explore the city.Service was great - they didn't have cribs available initially but when I asked (nicely), the lady at Housekeeping said she'll ask the neighboring hotels, and in about a half hour a crib was delivered to our room. What we didn't quite like: the internet (which we had to pay for) was not working and the front desk wasn't very helpful. They informed us that THEY cannot help and that we would have to call the company that provided the service... which would not have been a major inconvenience (and could cost a pretty penny if we used our non-US-based cell service) if we didn't have a local SIM with us. Thankfully we did so were able to get tech support, and to be fair to them they upgraded our Internet to the end of our stay even though we paid for two days only.If you have a car with you and you don't intend to use it around the city (and I heartily recommend taking the Metro which is BY FAR the cleanest and most civilized rapid transit system I have seen in the US), I suggest parking it at one of the garages close by the hotel, rather than pay for valet parking at the hotel. This is what my brother ended up doing the one night he joined us. At any rate, the location of the hotel is pretty good for Dupont Circle (10 minute uphill walk from Dupont Circle station to the hotel), but keep in mind if you are traveling with a stroller that there's quite an incline. (It was still a good workout!) (Speaking of Dupont Circle - for being supposedly one of the more 'hip' areas in the city, there seemed to be a shortage of independent cafes and restaurants in the area. I was hoping for at least a few more mom-and-pop/casual places to have dinner, but oh well. This has nothing to do with the hotel anyway).

Helpful staff with a smile!
A last minute business trip and The Churchill is where I ended up! What a pleasant surprise! I was in a very large king suite with a separate little office area- although my room faced Connecticut Ave. there wasn't as much traffic noise as I expected! The staff, especially Steven at the front desk and Humberto who brought me my coffee each morning, were very pleasant, professional and very accommodating.Don't miss the view of the Washington Monument when you walk out front and look right! Spectacular view from atop the hill!

Not a bad stay, but not a great stay
My wife and I (and many friends, in separate rooms) stayed here for a weekend wedding in the area. The hotel is historic and comfortable feeling, without being rundown. Our room was very small, but did have a good sized bathroom. The suite a friend had was very large, with a comfortable sitting area, but had a tiny bathroom. Depending on your priorities, that seems to be the choice in room types. The turn down service was pretty poor in my opinion. Our bed was sloppily made at 4pm, and only after a call down to the front desk. There was also trash left in our room, despite us not being messy people. The rehearsal dinner and day after brunch were held at the hotel, and the food was pretty good. Our wedding rate made the hotel very affordable, but I feel that the size of the room and turn down service would lead me to stay elsewhere next time I am in DC.

OK, but not great
This is an old hotel with all the quirks (and not much of the quaintness) that goes along with that. It's 100 years old, so of course the floors squeak and the room had a weird layout. It seemed OK for cleanliness but it wasnt maintained to a high standard. The windows for example were incredibly dirty, so much so, that you could hardly see out of them. I found the food at the restaurant to be not good. Salmon was burned for instance and the salad tasted bad.

Inexpensive and okay
Overall my stay at the Churchill was mediocre. The staff was friendly and helpful, the best aspect of the hotel. The room, on the smaller side for American hotels, was fine, if a bit shabby. The cleaning during my stay was generally good but missed a few areas not in the middle of the room. The biggest issue was the room temperature - it was definitely chilly, and turning up the heat did nothing - the air coming out was barely tepid. I overheard two other guests complaining about temperatures as well, with one guest saying her room was so cold she slept in her clothes.Overall, I would stay here again, although maybe not in extreme temperatures.
