Great Location - Basic Hotel
We stayed in Old Sydney Holiday Inn in April this year as part of a longer trip travelling around Oz. This was our base for the Sydney leg, and I have to say, the location could not have been better for seeing the sights.There were three in our party (2 adults, 1 child).Our room was basic but comfortable. Having stayed in Holiday Inns on business for many years in the UK (not through choice), Old Sydney is on a par with the majority of the group's UK hotels in terms of amenities, cleanliness and facilities.The staff were generally very helpful and efficient, although I did have one issue where I urgently had to call home and (not having a mobile with me), asked reception if I could call the UK for two minutes. This was denied. Not good. That said, they did call to arrange an excursion pick up for us with no issues.Don't come here for a wining and dining experience as the facilities for this are pretty much non existent. Neither did we have breakfast as experience has told me that Holiday Inn breakfasts are always ludicrously overpriced and generally, not brilliant, so I cannot comment on food quality at this hotel.Top Tip. Request a room high up as it can be VERY noisy if you are on the lower floors.If you're looking for a basic hotel with a great location, then this one is for you. If you want food and luxury, look elsewhere.

Perfect per cruise hotel Sydney
We recently stayed a night at this lovely old hotel before a cruise. It is a great old charm hotel opposite the overseas terminal so couldn't be closer did your cruise departure. The rooms are large, beds comfortable , breakfast excellent and staff attentive and motivated. There was great dining options all around the hotel from cheap eats to quality dinings. The opera house is within walking distance , circular quay , harbour bridge. Night time view from the roof top is excellent and you can capture great sights of this wonderful city. Convenience store below hotel for last minute stock. Not much more I could have wanted from a hotel. Thank you

Not what we hoped!
We booked this hotel and cheap it was not. We knew the location - The Rocks and on arrival we were sadly disappointed by the room and general appearance of the hotel. Here was a hotel with a very good location, the entrance to the hotel was drab coloured and no endearing features at all. The staff were very good couldn't fault them at all. During the evening when it was time to eat there were no facilities to eat an evening meal we had to go out looking for somewhere, the room lacked lustre too! Very basic but only just adequate, not what we expected for the price!Perhaps we may suggest that Holiday Inn make something of the entrance to this hotel it has all the prospects of being made very nice and welcoming just s few plants to soften the quite typically 'Australian' drab colour scheme, try a drop of light coloured paint, add a few plants, pictures etc. We certainly won't be staying there again through choice.

You are paying for a Good Location
It was a good location to see the Rocks, Bridge and Opera House, and of course great access to Circular Quay and ferry and train system. The rooms were blonde wood and minimalist. I was on the 3rd floor and there is Lots of street noise. Asks for a room on a higher floor. Bath rooms were OK; toiletries were meh. Holiday lInn offers 15 minutes of "free" Internet access if you have your own computer. However there are no dedicated computers to check in for flights and to print off boarding tickets. The front desk offered to do this and print out boarding tickets, but really no dedicated terminals? I would downgrade to 3.5 if I could for this point alone.

Great location
The hotel is in a great location, a short walk to circular quay and the Opera House. If travelling from the airport you can get a train direct to Circular Quay station and then walk providing you don't have huge bags.The hotel is not luxurious, but the rooms are clean and simply furnished. The furniture seems a bit worn, but well looked after. Personally I would prefer this than paying lot more for more luxury and newer furnishings.Breakfast hideously overpriced unless you have it as part of your room rate.Low level rooms at the front can be noisy if there on busy weekends - I was there Anzac day and in the evening pubs and bars were full till late.
