better than average
I need to stay somewhere for one night and booked this through a travel website.The room was large, clean, with a good size television, and comfy bed. The bath was a little small, but the shower was good along with the complimentary soaps. The reception area has a few computers as well as comfy chairs to sit and read the papers.Located near the Cross it is in a perfect location to explore the area and the surrounds.For the price $80 it was perfect.Staff on reception helpful.

Pleasant surprise
This hotel is in the great neighborhood and within walking distance from all major Sydney attractions so when I booked it for $75 a night, I expected nothing but a very basic, small motel-or even hostel-type room, but the room actually exceeded all my expectations. The room was very clean, decent size and with renovated bathroom. Internet was $14 a day and parking extra (probably would be a fortune), but I didn't need it. You can book an airport shuttle at the reception and it will pick you up in front of the hotel.Definitely recommended

Not the classiest but fantastic location and service
I've stayed here several times. A fantastic budget hotel! On my second stay my room wasn't the cleanest but the staff will always go out of their way to make u more comfortable. Definitely a go if you're travelling on a budget

You pay for what you get which is actually OK
This is a 3 star hotel and doesn't pretend to be otherwise.The rooms are basic. The sheets and bathrooms are always clean. There's a small fridge and an airconditioner/heater, TV and that's about it and the prices are about right for what you get.However, in addition what you do get is to stay at the neighbourhood end of Sydney's famous Kings Cross with all its girly bars and grot. By staying at the De Vere though you'll be at the suburban neighbourhood end on a tree lined street with lots of reasonable cafes & bakeries nearby and across the road from a chemist and a medium sized supermarket.You'll also be able to walk from the hotel down to Woolloomooloo to Harry's Cafe de Wheels and then past the art gallery into the city or the opera house via the gardens to circular quay - a walk of about 30 minutes (with some steep stairs in between). This is actually one of my most favourite walks within in Sydney as it takes in nearly all the best bits of Sydney's CBD.

Suprisingly great!
Great location for those wanting to experience the Sydney nightlife as it's the perfect location to access the Kings Cross main clubbing strip. Probably wouldn't recommend it for families as the surrounding area gets pretty seedy at night but great for party goers! Fantastic spacious room and very clean. We had no booking and got a room instantly for an extremely good price.
