Historical hotel
I was in a business conference in Muscone convention center ,walking distance from this historical hotel,service excellent ,enjoyed much taking my breakfast in their restaurant ,with the smell of history all over ,definite I would do it again.

Disappointing
For being a Luxury Collection Hotel, the services, in-room amenities, furniture and cleanliness is kind of disappointing. -The carpet was stained and old (not dirty, just stained)-The furniture is out-dated and battered -The room doesn't even have a coffee service inside-The pool could use a little up-keep, etc...Luxury collection has always shown the attention to details and I don't really know what happened with their quality standards in this one.The sunday brunch is excessively over-priced (75USD per person) for the quality and variety of food you get.On the up side, the staff is amazingly helpful. Concierge attended to a couple of requests really great. Bell-boys were of great aid. Front desk showed a lot of amiability.

Outstanding experience even with our problems
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly and taken care of. Paul, the doorman, was very helpful and went out of his way to make suggestions for things to do and see. It turns out, we needed him more than we ever thought we would. I experienced a back spasm that first night and ended up sleeping on the floor for a portion of the night. I was able to get up and move a bit the following morning only to have the spasm come back as we were leaving the next morning. Paul and Rico, from Security, got me a wheelchair and got me back to our room and then worked with my wife and the concierge to get a massage therapist to the room. The concierge (Betty Lou?) helped get a good therapist set up. Even after the massage, I was still incapacitated and had to have an ambulance take me to the hospital the following day. Even while I was in the hospital, the Security staff called my wife to see if there was anything she needed and took care of her to make sure she was in good hands. That definitely took something off my mind. When I returned from the hospital, Security called to check on me and Paul stopped me to let me know that he had been thinking about me and hoping for my best. I couldn't have asked for better service. When it was time for us to leave for the airport, they would not let us get a taxi and insisted that a Towncar drive us out since it was about the same price. I could go on and on about how well they treated us but I would just be gushing. Trust me on this one, you want to stay here.

Historic Gem, great value
My family and I stayed here for one night on a driving trip down the California coast. The hotels is a grand dame in the city where you have many hotel choices. The lobby has the wow factor as soon as enter. Check in process was quick and the room we got was quite spacious for an older hotel. Very high ceilings, too. Our view was just of the building across the street, but we didn't mind. We had 2 double beds which were very comfy. The bathroom was somewhat small, compared to those found in newer hotels. It was updated, but still kept it's original feel. So, we had all the mod-cons with the charming old world look. The parking is very expensive, but parking for the whole of San Fran is expensive. We might have saved a bit to park in a nearby municipal lot, but the bellman brought the car around and there is something to be said for that convenience. Do allow enough time for your car if you need to go, because the garage is small and it takes a bit of time for them to bring the car down. We found the neighborhood good for walking and sightseeing. We drove ourselves to see 3 or 4 spots that were farther away and driving there was doable. I would recommend the Palace to anyone who loves charming, historic hotels. It's a wonderful gem!

Beautiful hotel; great location
Stayed here for work and thought the staff was friendly and flexible. I checked in early; front desk agreed to change my room (first one smelled like a hospital). Rooms have high ceilings and a big window. Nothing hugely special but nice. Great gym (and a good-sized pool). You can walk to so much from this location. I enjoyed staying here and would return. One note: I had a king bed with four enormous pillows -- so large that they were uncomfortable. I wouldn't normally note something so picky but one of my co-workers had the same complaint. We're talking really big pillows:)
