IT IS CLOSED!!
After travelling for 23hrs to my reserved accommodation with Venere, I was looking forward to staying at this hotel. To my horror, when the taxi driver arrived there, he could not find an entrance and the hotel was boarded up! Aparently it had been boarded up and renovations were going on for the last few months. Judging by the amount of work going on, it will be a few more months before it will re-open. I notice it is still advertised with other agents, so you must double check with them before booking.

Would be an astounding deal- if it weren't for the bed bugs!
My goal was to stay in San Francisco on the cheap, and it was either this for $50 a night or the civic center inn (Iocated in a hellish part of town, with no parking), and I'm glad I chose this place, despite the bed bugs. That being said, I am from NYC and have experience dealing with bed bugs- mainly, I know to seal or discard my suitcase when I return from vacations, air-tight seal my clothes in plastic garbage bags until I wash and most importantly DRY them (heat kills the bugs), etc. The rooms are surprisingly spacious compared to other budget/city motels, and brightly decorated in yellows, with a vintage look almost. We had a free mini-fridge added to the room, a table to eat on, and a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The bathroom was also huge, compared to other hotels. I loved the swimming pool downstairs... swimming is so relaxing when you've been on a long road trip.I had no problems with the elevators or hookers or drugs or getting ripped off or any of the other nonsense people have wrote on here. The motel mainly attracts foreign, european tourists (who are known to by accustomed to traveling on the cheap), and young 20-somethings. We did have to switch rooms one night due to spotting a bed bug, but the second room appeared to not have them. Otherwise, rooms are clean. I see them steam-treating rooms for bed bugs (the maids), so I guess they are trying. We stayed 6 nights in total. The neighborhood is safe and beautiful. Prime location. They have free parking in the garage, but it is a little tight- be careful you don't dent or scratch your car trying to get into one of the spots, like I did (but access america car rental insurance covered that for me). AGAIN, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I knew i shouldn't have but i did anyway!!
I booked through expedia a few months ago. i had read all the reviews and even called and spoked to the manager Dan personnally. He ensured me that this hotel was cleaned up and no bed bugs were in the rooms. I trusted him even when he said he would have his wife and kids stay here. I wanted to believe him. He was dead wrong. I requested a room with a view which i got. facing the golden gate bridge. The hotel is very old and we were on the fourth floor. The window wouldn't close the first night so Dan came up to our room personally to help us close it which was off the track. When we checked out on wed i started to notice little bumps on my left wrist and hand. By thursday they spread to my other hand ankels neck and even my face including my eyelids and ears. Thank god i wore long johns and a long sleeve shirt to bed. The bugs bit me in every area that wasn't covered up. But somehow only i got bitten. Maybe because my husband refused to sleep in the bed but on top with our own blanket and pillow that we brought with usI am so dissapointed with myself for staying here knowing what others had written about this place. Boy am i paying for that now. Yes it is in a perfect location. Walking distace to the pier and the bus stop is right outside. I can even handel the fact the the rooms are old and stains on the floors and everything. What i can't handel is the bites all over me. i have been taking benadryl like there is no tomorrow and it has gotton to the point that my face is swelling up and looks like i have been beaten up. Finally seen the doctor on saturday (He made a special trip to the clinic as he is also a friend of mine) and i am now on doxycyclone to control the swelling and a cream to stop the redness and ichyness. We had such a good time on our trip. one i will never forget. But i will defentally be more aware when someone even suggest bed bugs. NEVER AGAIN.If you are thinking about this place. Maybe think again. I wish i did. And if you do stay here and you do get bed bugs bites then you have no one to blame but yourself

I had no problems with the Heritage Marina Hotel. Don't know where people are coming up with their complaints.
I stayed at the Heritage Marina Hotel for one week. Was in San Francisco for my sister's wedding in mid August. I did not have a large budget and would be staying there with my teenage kids. I was also late in making my reservations, but I found a great rate here so I booked the room. After booking it, I then started to see these bad reviews, talking about bed bugs and how dirty this hotel was. I did consider changing my hotel, but decided to stick it out here. I knew I was not getting a 5 star hotel, nor was I expecting to. I was looking to have a place to get some sleep during my stay.I was pleasently surprised by the hotel. Overall, the staff was friendly, and my only issue was they were extremely strict with the check-in time. There was no flexability. I arrived with my son at about 12:30 pm, but could not check in prior to 3:00 (possibly 4:00, I forget). They did however, have a locked room where I could leave our bags and we took a walk to Lombard street (2 blocks away). The room was a comfortable sized room and more than adequate for my needs. I had an inside room on the second floor which had a balcony which overlooked the pool. The balcony was a joined balcony for all the rooms on this side, but there were no issues with that. The only complaint with the room would have to be the shower head height. I am 5'8" tall and had to really aim the shower head across the shower to get it to hit my head and not have to crouch down. In addition, my personal towels never seemed to completely dry in the bathroom. Before leaving, I had to hang them over the balcony railing to dry in the sun. While there was no A/C units in the room, only a single ceiling fan which was more than adequate. An A/C was never needed and I was there during some of the hottest days of the year according to my sister. There were NO BEDBUGS in my room and I did not hear any complaints from any of the other guests I spoke with.As for the pool, yes, the picture is an old one and the palm tree, while there, is dead, but there were no issues with the pool either. The green color of the pool is do to the color it is painted, not because it is dirty. In addition, in the evening, the pool was heated, so it made swimming in it quite comfortable. You can swim until 10:00 pm, although one night I did slip in with my son for about 10 minutes shortly after that time, due to how warm it still was.I would reccomend this hotel to anyone visiting San Francisco and do not want to pay a lot. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles, then look elsewhere, but if you want a good value, this is a good choice. Transportation is readily available just outside the hotel so getting around is not an issue. It is also close to Fisherman's Wharf, without being right on top of it. If I had to make any improvements, I would say to add a small refrigerator, so I could keep drinks, milk for coffee and sodas cold and raise the shower head so an average size adult does not have to crouch down to get their head wet.

A San Francisco Bargain!
I have read with disgust the earlier reviews stating that this hotel is THE DIRTIEST! And it has BEDBUGS! NOT!!!! There were NO bugs. The hotel is OLD...1959... but for $40 a night (Bookit.com) the hotel was VERY attractive. It is tired. The carpet in the halls needs replacement. The rooms have been upgraded recently. BUT, the bed bugs and the hookers are NOT in evidence. The housekeeping staff was incredible. Linens were changed each day. The beds were new and the free parking and free breakfast were a hit. Promised upcoming renovations will produce an even better bargain. I was assured by the new Gen Mgr that HE had gotten rid of all the negatives in this place. He actually lives there! I would go back. Rested and happy, John Wise
