We stayed for a second year in a row at this very nice little hotel , walking distance from Florence center without being in the middle of the crowd ....

Never again! Very disappointing!
We stayed for 6days Staff: unhelpfull , not organised , NOT professionnal. We arrrived in the afternoon, there was no parking place for the car (knowing that we paid for one),the receiptionist doesn't know how to greet his clients ,not a smile , not a welcoming phrase .Arrogant(we didn't pay for that..). No one will explain to you what you can do in the surroundings. We asked them to book us a table for 2 in a restaurant, told us he did , but once in the restaurant we discovered that there was no reservation at all! Went at the reception the next day to get further explanation about this incident the guy was off on a weekend. Unreliable staff! And not pleasant to interact with (except the night's receptionist).The reservation included a basket of fresh fruit waiting for us at the arrival , we didnt get it .Room:ground floor Thin walls , we could hear everything happening above/next to us (neighboors, the staff preparing the breakfast at 5am ..)Poor decoration . No problem with hot water.Room Cleaning service:bed sheets change at the 3rd day and bathroom cleaning at the 3rd day. We difnt encouter any problem.Wifi:unreliable in the rooms. You have to move to the lobby if you want a good connection.not practical at all.Breakfast: erratic service. . Canned fruit salad ,1st low price/quality ham. Nothing fresh.Dont expect a good italian charcutrie ..The only positive note is the location:15 to 20mns to get yo the famous Duomo piazza(get ur map, dont expect to get one at the reception desk!)For 90? to a 130 the weekend for 1 night ,Will definitly book another hotel next time.

Probably the last time we will stay here
The hotel has aged somewhat and what was once "charming" now seems a bit old and worn out. We asked for a double room and got two single beds. The shower leaked on the floor and the drains in our shower and our kids weren't working very well - we stood in water during the shower. Water pressure and hot water was not the best. There were no English language channels - no news, etc. Breakfast service was erratic - waiter not the best. Also, cheeses were all plastic wrapped or dried out, fruit salad was canned. Next time we are in Florence we will upgrade. Wi-fi was spotty - sometimes worked, sometimes not.

Clean and affordable B&B
This hotel is actually a bed&breakfast as they have no lunch or dinner. The breakfast is typical of southern Europe with some cakes, bisquits and croissants, coffee and tea. However they do have juice, cereals and fruit as well, and at least one day there were boiled eggs. The location is ok, a bit to the north of centrum. Walking distance to the conference center (Fortezza da Basso) is 20-22 minutes, to the railway station (Santa Maria Novella) 3-4 minutes less and to the Duomo you walk in 15-17 minutes. Some reviewers complained about noise at the hotel. There is some street noise in rooms facing the rear side of the hotel (north-east) but I think it cannot be avoided in Florence. For some reason ambulances use their sirenes at all hours whether streets are empty or not. Taxi from the airport (Peretola, to the west of the city) costs Eur 20 in daytime, otherwise Eur 23 plus 1 Euro per piece of luggage. I paid a little more (Eur 29) when I returned to the Airport but then I left at six in the morning and the taxi had to wait for me for some minutes.I stayed in room 28, on the top floor. A spacious room with beautiful roof paintings. The bed was rather hard but that suited me well. No problem with water pressure (as other reviewers have experienced).

We saw reviews saying it was noisy but some expect to have everything for nothing. Great little breakfast .Honestly a very good spot to remember . Not pricy for the quality of what you get . You can then spend the difference on what is really worted.Absolute sensationnal little Trattoria near by , Cesarino Trattoria , a real discovery . far away from the tourist places near Duomo . Simple decor but unbelievable food , great wine and friendly staff . Don't miss it . We travel all over the world and I can easily say that , for the location , price and comfort , Villa Liana is a sure bet . If noise bother you , get some ear plugs to sleep...

Great base for exploring Florence
I just stayed at HVL with two friends for a short break in Italy and had a great stay.The hotel is out of the town centre and is probably about a 20-30 minute easy walk from the central train station. The building is beautiful. The rooms are very Italian - basic and functional, which was all we needed. The reception team were helpful and informative. They spoke good English and encouraged our attempts at speaking Italian. They helped us work out the best way to get around and even checked train times for us to get to Pisa. They even went to find us chocolate biscuits one night when we had a desire for something sweet.Breakfast was not the best in the world but perfect for us. Coffee and tea, fruit juice, water, sweet cakes and pastry, cereals, hams and cheeses, breads, fruit etc. It wasn't 'waited' but a very informal 'help yourself' affair. Wifi is available but it wasn't always a great connection. It didn't work in our room for example and only really worked well in the main hall/lobby. They also had a PC for general use too.I loved the hotel and would definately stay there again if I return to Florence.
