Classic comfort with a French twist!
We just returned from a six-night stay at the Sofitel Lafayette Square. Great experience. Considering the level of luxury, service and location, the rooms were very reasonably priced. Every staff member we encountered went out of his or her way to help us and answer our questions -- from the front desk clerk who WALKED us, without being asked, to the elevator after checking us in to the bellmen who always greeted us with a "bonjour!" at the door to the server at the bar who went out of her way to answer my MANY questions about one menu item -- everyone was exceptionally nice. As for the accommodations themselves, in the bathroom we especially loved the lighted mirror and spacious separate bathtub and shower, as well as the general layout. We had only one extremely minor criticism in that there was a bit too much furniture in the rest of the room which made it slightly crowded, but this was easily remedied by moving the stool at the end of the bed out of the way. As for location, the hotel is about a block or so away from the White House and about the same from the nearest metro (subway) station, McPherson Square. ***One pointer: As we learned when we left early this morning, the metro doesn't open until 7 am on weekends**** At any rate, we will MOST DEFINITELY return next time we travel to D.C.!!!!!!!

Service & Location, WOW
Previous reviews have said it all, this hotel will stick in our memory for two distinct reasons, Excellent Service by all staff members from the bellboy all the way to the room service attendant. Nothing was ever to much trouble and all of our requests were attended to with a smile. The other main plus for this hotel is the location - less than 5 minutes walk from the White House and a similar distance from many other attractions, youre so well located here that you never need to think of taxis. Our next trip to DC will include a stay at the Sofitel, we wont even look for any other hotel, weve found "our spot" in DC.

An elegant hotel with outstanding service
I stayed here for a week for the purpose of sight-seeing. The room was extremely comfortable and the only noise came from the room next door, which occurred only when they closed their door, which sounded like a slam. Every single employee was so courteous, from the maid to the concierge to the front desk. There was always a doorman to open the front door & hail a cab if needed. The only "freebies" were bottled water, coffee & 4 macaroons at check in. "Le Bar" downstairs was a great place to relax on one of their outdoor comfie couches with a drink. The only short-coming I experienced was a limited food selection at the bar & restaurant. Also, next time I go to Washington to sight-see, I would prefer to stay at a hotel closer to the Smithsonians, since that is where I spent the majority of my time. It was cool to be so close to the White House, though! I definitely recommend the Sofitel.

nice hotel, fairly good location
We stayed in June 2013. Front desk, concierge, doormen all very cordial; bad experience with a waiter in the outdoor bar. Room size OK but just big enough for bed and one chair. Closet very small but iron, ironing board, hairdryer all included. No coffee in room but complimentary coffee bar in lobby each morning. Pricing seemed average to better than average for DC. Overall we were very satisfied with the room and hotel.

Another good Sofitel experience
We usually stay in the Sofitel hotels where we can as generally have good experiences there. This didn't differ. Our room was large, slightly odd layout with the beds squashed at one end, but being an older building I think there are constraints with where to put things. It was very clean, the beds were comfy and the bathroom immaculate. The turn down service was slightly erratic, the children got milk and cookies the first night, which was a lovely touch , but there was no water in the room. The next two nights there was a turn down service and bottles of water were left. Service was generally friendly and polite. Had a slight annoyance on the last morning when it took 45 minutes and 3 members of staff, including the manager, to locate a sweater left in the bar..but at least it was eventually found and apologies for the mis-communication made. The bill for breakfast and drinks at the bar for the 3 days did stack up very quickly, I guess paying for the excellent location! And here to the best of this hotel, the location - ideally placed for exploring - much of which we did on foot. The concierge was extremely helpful in suggesting and booking restaurants each evening, which was great also.All in all an excellent break and would have no hesitation in recommending or returning.
