We were staying on business and were sadly let down badly by the hotel next door. This hotels staff and management came to our aid - did not overcharge us and then looked after us beautifully. The hotel has fabulous views and the rooms are really fresh but traditional. Courteous helpful staff helped with everything - cabs, food, advice and nothing was too much trouble. Great location - thanks very much

A perfect high-tea for two at the Richmond Gate Hotel, just across the road from Richmond Deer park. Smoked salmon sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, gateaux with fresh strawberries - a perfect way to end a day at Kew Gardens - NB if you have a package deal of Kew plus tea at this hotel beware, the Richmond Gate is two-bus-rides away from Kew, and you must go the the hotel first to collect your entry tickets for the gardens - it's all perfectly do-able, but add 1 hour each way to travel from the hotel to Kew and back again.

This hotel is in many ways simple and unpretentious. Really nice and friendly staff. We felt instantly and genuinely welcome. It is not outstanding but there is nothing poor and for the money it represents good value. Our room was not huge but it was fine and comfortable. Everything worked and was in good order. We would definitely go back.

Stayed 7 nights with work.The hotel location is beautiful. Across the road there's parks and views over the Thames.A 20 minute stroll down the hill gets you into Richmond and it's about a 5 minute taxi ride to the station.My room was good, comfortable bed, overall on the small side but still enough room for everything. I arrived late from the airport and ordered the cheese platter from room service. It's one of my tests for hotel food - I mean how hard is it to get cheese and biscuits right?! The plate I got had a selection of cheese but it had obviously been sitting out for a while so was all hard around the edges and past its best. I nibbled the biscuits and went to bed.Service at reception was good and they got me taxis to work each morning. What I will point out is that the staff were always having loud unprofessional conversations while people were in the reception area - again, I don't expect that from a good hotel. Talk about your issues of the day away from the guests! I heard one member of staff being told off and just think that's so unprofessional to do in the public areas.Breakfast was included in my package but I only tried it once. It was AWFUL! I arrived to find the restaurant a complete mess with tables not having been cleared away after guests had left....really not a good look when there's staff milling around not doing much. I was seated quickly but it took about 5 minutes for them to take my order for hot food. The cold buffet was ok but not fully stocked. I was given cold toast which I sent back and was then replaced with more cold toast. The hot food was good when it finally arrived, but the overall experience was not great. They'd obviously had a busy morning, but I still don't think that's an excuse for a messy restaurant, half stocked buffet and cold toast.When I'm traveling alone with work it's key to be in a hotel where the food is up to scratch and this was not.Wouldn't recommend to work visitors or tourists until they can fix the standard of their food service. Also suggest they give their reception staff some training on what's appropriate conversation topics in front of guests and what should be in the back office!

This hotel is excellent at listening to customer feedback I was thrilled to find new toiletries in my bathroom. These include shampoo, body wash and body lotion. These are all very good and make such a difference when you are travelling. Thank you Richmond Gate. The staff remain friendly and very helpful and the pool is lovely!
