If we could give this hotel a higher score, we would! Set in a perfect location an easy walk to Times Square, Park Avenue, 5th Avenue etc, this hotel is a little gem! We read a lot of reviews prior to our visit, some complaining about the renovations that the hotel is currently undertaking - what we found was that the building works are undertaken with total consideration for guests and with no disruption to our stay whatsoever. A lot of hotels in NYC are currently undergoing some form of renovation (most on East 50th had scaffolding around them), so don't let this put you off. On our arrival (and every time we came and went after that), we were warmly welcomed firstly by the wonderful Rome and Sammy - without doubt the two best doormen in NYC. Staff at reception were equally as welcoming and we instantly felt right at home. On check in, we were given a newly refurbished room on the 4th floor. We were intially worried about this as we had read reviews saying that there is a fair bit of noise on the lower floors from the street or air conditioning units. To be fair, there was a constant gentle hum from the air conditioning units outside, but this served to put us to sleep at night and detract from the usual traffic noise and sirens of NYC (I am a light sleeper and had no problem sleeping here whatsoever). Our room was lovely - the most comfortable bed in our travels and a beautifully appointed room. The Level 2 Club Room was fantastic - as was happy hour every night from 6-7pm. Our only feedback to the hotel here would be to perhaps provide a soft drink option for non wine drinkers. We generally popped in a couple of times a day to check emails etc as there is no free wifi in rooms, but this was really no hassle as it was a lovely place to stop and rest for a few minutes before exploring NYC again.A 10 out of 10 from us - an affordable hotel with exceptional staff and great rooms in a wonderful location. The room in this hotel was well laid out with plenty of space for a king sized bed and still leaving room for a sitting area with a sofa and two chairs. We only stayed one night but the room size would be very comfortable when staying for a few days and when having a few pieces of luggage. The bed was very good with good linens.The rest of the experience was poor, however. The bathroom was tiny, with the tiniest toilet I've ever seen. Two of the towels were dirty with brown stains. When we woke up in the morning, the room was 80 degrees, and when we called, we learned that the engineering department had failed to turn on the central air system. We got an apology, but apologies are cheap. We basically had no air conditioning during the night. They were also doing repairs to the water systems in the building and we had no water in the room for hours. I understand the need for maintenance, but the hotel should provide a credit for causing the inconvenience. No credit was offered for the lack of water or air conditioning. The lobby is tiny and not attractive and breakfast is served in a club room with no tables so you have to eat sitting on a sofa. All of this for $375. Definitely overpriced.

Usually, I'm a Days Inn, Comfort Inn, HoJo's, 'just gimme a bed and a shower kinda guy' but there aren't many budget properties in the city. So it was, that I finally was able to get together with the guys for a weekend in the city. My friends had been going to the Big East basketball tourney for years. Most recently, I'm in Florida during the month of February and can't do the tourney with the guys in March. This year, no Florida, so 'hello New York'. One of the guys booked this place and of course we've always squeezed everyone into a 1 bedroom suite or something similar. Not everybody's getting a bed but that's the way it is. As far as accomodations go, I'm always a little budget concious so even though it was gonna be the five of us, it was gonna be more than i'm used to paying. When it was time to tally up after checkout sunday morn I'm expecting about a $400 or so tab for our two nights. It ended up being less than half that per person. I would prefer a location closer to Madison Sq.Garden and the Times Square area but... Our 1 bdr suite consisted of two queen beds, and a pull out sofa. We still needed a rollaway which took up much space horizontally betwen the door and the kitchenette. Yes, we had a full kitchen with stove, mini-fridge, microwave and all the amenities. A very nice place for a bunch of guys in the city for a basketball weekend. Our big, bad high flying all night partying binges are behind us for the most part. When I got home, I checked the rates for a single and to my dismay it was obviously more than i would be interested in paying. But that's just me..Maybe this summer, I'll splurge on a solo getaway weekend when the Yanks are home. A couple of clubs I'm interested in are within walking distance of the Affinia.

Perfect in every way! 4 ladies shared a 1 bedroom suite. Plenty of room two king size beds in bedroom plus sofa bed in lounge. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful boutique hotel in excellent location we walked every where, also close to subway. Definitely would stay here again.

This is a brilliant hotel in a very convenient location. When we were there it was undergoing refurbishment and there was scaffolding all over the outside. However, this did not detract from our experience. Our room was spacious and quiet. The soft furnishings and decor were clearly new and fresh and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with a superb shower. We had no difficulty in accessing wifi in our room. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room as well as in the lounge area which is also spacious and comfortable. The coffee is good and there is wine between 6.00 and 7.00 pm Monday to Friday - a welcome surprise. The staff are welcoming and professional and were happy to store our bags as we arrived too early for check-in and we were leaving late. The concierge was helpful and more than willing to confirm our airport shuttle service. We had booked room only and there is a superb all day breakfast place just a few doors away towards Lexington Ave. We ate there every day. I am happy to recommend this hotel to anyone and I would use it again.
