Let me start off by saying that my wife and I previously lived in NYC. As a result, we don't do tourist stuff and the size of a New York hotel room never surprises us. As we would expect from a Doubletree, we were greeted cordially with warm cookies. Our room was clean and modern. For a NYC hotel, the room was spacious. We brought our two bikes with us and Doubletree graciously allowed us to bring them into the room (many hotels in the city require you to store them in a baggage room). So two people, two bikes and two suitcases fit into this room. We were "cozy" but the door still closed so we were happy. The location is primo. About a block and a half away from the South Ferry station and about a block away from Battery Park meant that we were right where we needed to be. We could be at the Houston Street station (for SoHo and Greenwich Village) in 10 minutes, and a bike ride to the park took about 5. If you are traveling on the weekend, you will love the fact that traffic on Whitehall street is very light. This is great if you are riding your bike to the park or trying to herd children. From Battery Park you can ride (or walk or jog) into Hudson River Park just north. The bike/jogging paths run all the way up the west side of the island and about halfway up the east side (they connect via bike lane through the north to complete the circuit). These are some of the nicest bike paths you will ever see. You will ride alongside the Hudson, pass Chelsea piers and see all of the city bustle without having to share the road with cars. If you just want to explore the city, the South Ferry station gives you access to the city via the 1 train (local, but you can pick up the 2 train express at rector street). You can also pick up the R if that fits your travel plans better. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Self parking is directly across the street from the entrance. This is a huge bonus when you depart as you don't have to weave through city traffic to get back to the hotel to load your bags. And at $35 a day, it is affordable and safe.Now some bad news: 1. The elevators. The entrance is on the ground floor, but the lobby is on the second floor. Aside from being mildly disorienting upon arrival, it also causes some intense elevator congestion. If an elevator is traveling down, it will stop at the lobby (2nd floor) even if the people waiting there pushed the "up" button. The result? You are standing in the basement with your bags, ready for check-in and a shower only to have the elevator doors open and find it full of people. Three elevators and 44 floors. If you miss it, you're going to wait. This may not sound like a big deal, but after the third or fourth time getting stuck on the ground floor waiting for an empty car, it gets frustrating. If you have bikes with you, it gets very frustrating. 2. WiFi is only free in the lobby. If you want wifi in your room, you have to spend $10 per day. Considering it would have cost me more to do that that buy a Monty's worth of data on my ipad, I opted out of their Internet plan. Yeah, I get it, it's a business, monetize everything, blah blah blah. But $10 for wifi in 2013? The room may be affordable by NYC standards, but it still isn't cheap. This was undoubtedly put into place because this hotel likely sees more business people than tourists and it is easier to bilk an extra $10 per day out of someone traveling on a corporate expense account than someone looking to take pretty pictures of the Statue of Liberty. 3. If you book through a discount site, that site will invariably list "breakfast buffet" as an amenity. Unfortunately, if you book through said site, your breakfast isn't included and will cost $18 per person. Apparently if you book directly, they throw it in at no extra charge. Don't give them the satisfaction. There is a Starbucks on the corner of Stone and Whitehall, a Duane Reed with fruit on the opposite corner and a little breakfast/lunch place one street over. N

3 slow Elevators for 40 floors. Expect long waits Cable TV box is 20 years old Coffee Machine does not work Very slow internet Guys at bell desk are great! Since the Hotel is in the financial district most restaurants close early on the weekend are not open at all.

We visit our three adult children in NYC at least twice a month and frequently stay overnight at a city hotel. The Doubletree Hotel in NYC's Financial District was the best experience we've had to date. Why was our four-day stay so satisfying?1. The rooms were new, immaculate, and spacious.2. The price for a quality NYC hotel were reasonable.3. The staff were perfectly efficient and welcoming. We were always greeted with a warm smile and pleasant small talk. 4. Their warm cookies (yes, you may request extra anytime!) are famously delicious.5. Their restaurant was on site, open early and late, and served pleasant food.We highly recommend this hotel if it is convenient for you.

Stayed here for 3 nights last weekend. It was the best deal that I could find for a last minute Fri, Sat & Sun and for the money I don't think I could have found much better on the whole. I had a late check in and there were no issues and staff were very friendly at the desk. The complimentary cookie was very tasty! The room itself was a fairly decent size for New York and was very clean and modern and the bed was very comfy. The Saturday morning I woke up very early and the day exposed a few issues with service. The coffee machine wasn't working in the room so when I went out at 6.30am I told the concierge who assured me that he would get someone on it straight away. I returned at around 11am and it hadn't been fixed but I thought seeing that it was Saturday I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Whilst back in the room I realised that housekeeping were in the room next door so I went out again. I returned at 2.30pm and was amazed that the room still hadn't been made up! I called reception just before I went out again and by the time I got back later that evening it had been done. The coffee machine however, had still not been fixed.I also noticed that the TV had now stopped working too! The next morning I went down to reception again and the lady I spoke to was very apologetic and she sent someone up there and then to fix the problem. Now I don't know if all rooms are adjoining but ours was and the soundproofing leaves a lot to be desired so I would advise anyone staying here to ask for a non-adjoining room if that is possible. The hotel itself is in a quiet side street in the FD just round the corner from Wall Street and Battery Park which is a nice change from the hectic, craziness of Midtown with the Bowling Green metro stop also within 1-2 mins walk. To the other side of the hotel is Pearl Street and a lovely pedestrianised street with half a dozen very nice pubs/bars & restaurants. Despite the few little hiccups I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Doubletree Hotel on Stone Street. We arrived by train into the city and our taxi driver had no trouble finding the hotel. The hotel is also close to a subway station which made travel back to NY Penn Station a breeze when it was time to leave.The lobby is one level up from the street. When we checked in, we were each presented with the standard warm cookie greeting. The lobby was small but there were some places to sit and relax. The staff were all very nice and welcoming including the bell hop.Our room was typical size for a NYC hotel as in not very large. Everything was clean and modern and we had a great view looking over a small section of Battery Park and the East River. It was worth the little bit of extra money for the view. The bathroom was tight. There was nowhere really to store your toiletries or make-up items. There was a shower only and not a bathtub.You are close to many great things by this hotel - Battery Park, The World Trade Center Memorial, Century 21 (for great discount shopping on designer and name brand wear), Pier 19, The Museum of American Finance, the National Museum of the American Indian, Wall Street, and all the great restaurants and outdoor dining on this historic cobble stone section of Stone Street. In addition to all the attractions that are close to this hotel, it isn't that far by subway train to Times Square, Broadway, and other sections of the city. You are also not that far from the Little Italy, Chinatown, and Tribeca. There are many beautiful parks and pathways around the river. Be sure to take some time to explore.We highly recommend Crepes Du Nord for brunch (ingredients from their own farm in the Catskills.........and try some of their Lingonberry treats) and the Financier Patisserie for a delicious breakfast. (fresh roasted coffee and French breakfast and pastry specialties) Both are located on the cobblestone section of Stone Street.Overall we found this hotel to be a great value in NYC and we would recommend it without hesitation
