Helpful staff, not central, renovated basic
As other travellers have pointed out - the location is not what they have expected. It can be argued that it belongs to Mitte as it is defined geographically but the name is terribly confusing for those who do not know Berlin and when they research Mitte as being something central, it is just the most logical thing to expect that a hotel bearing such a name would be located centrally. That's something I did not like. I call this misleading advertising/branding. Brought my rating from excellent to very good. Second thing I thought was inappropriate - I know a lot of hotels do that though, was to charge roughly 20 EUR for parking the car in the hotel per day. If they were central then I would say BE IT but for a hotel so far off? There is free parking in front of the hotel but finding a spot there after spending a day of walking around the city - not the best idea. So this brought my rating down to average. Other than that - friendly and helpful staff. Free wifi - ask for a password at the reception - I wonder why they don't mention it without being asked - this tempts me to bring it down to poor but hey - the rooms were really clean and it seems recently renovated. The beds were comfortable.

It was previously in the West Berlin division of WEDDING but when the divisions were re-organised, this area became part of MITTE.

A few tweaks could make it better
The hotel is quite far out of town, despite being named Mitte, it's nowhere near Mitte. It is however very close to two u-bahn stations (Pankstrasse - come out on the right, follow the road to the shell garage and turn right/ Osloer Strasse - turn left and it's a ten minute walk on the right hand side). The room we had was large and bright, with a shower. We booked a double room and got two singles pushed together with two sets of seperate bedding, not even disguised as a double. But very comfy, warm, clean and we heard no noise from any other rooms.There are no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room which was surprisingly annoying and a bit cheap we thought, as there is nowhere to grab a coffee nearby. We hadn't booked breakfast but decided on the second day to stay in the hotel for breakfast and asked for it to be charged to our room, which caused some kind of trauma for the manager who interrupted our breakfast twice to try and secure payment there and then. Breakfast was expensive and nothing special and our table was cleared constantly while we were eating.The hotel also advertises free wi-fi. It doesn't have it.We only dealt with the reception staff twice, on check in and check out. Both staff were helpful and polite and spoke excellent English. We arrived very early for check in, and were offered an upgrade on our room if we wanted one there and then or storage for our luggage.Overall adequate if a bit mean

Good value BUT extra charge for "early" check-in!
Nice and easy-going place. Very good value for money. Good location (not central) close to Tegel Airport, only a short ride on the tram to wonderful Sch¿¿nhauser All¿¿ and great shopping in Prenzlauer Berg. And a 5 minute walk to Bornholmer Strasse S-bahn.I had a big bright and clean room on the top floor, with a great view of the rooftops.My only complaint: I had to pay 10 euro extra for a (not so early) check-in at 11 o'clock, as opposed to 2 o'clock. Not the best service, and rather unusual for Berlin.

A big mixed bag
When you arrive after a 17+ hrs trip and the staff simply does not make any effort to accommodate you then you know that you're in the wrong place. It could be a good hotel but just one guy at the reception ruins a product before your stay begins. If we would have arrived 3 hrs later and dealt with his female colleague... Total different story. Then, room make up every day before 9am is annoying. Clean-up not good, food stains on table and floor, no amenities in bathroom ( not even soap ) toilet paper not refilled, and breakfast at a rate of 18 Eur (23 Us$) per head. So for our next trip to Berlin... Thank you but no thank you!
