Great location, faded chic
We were pleasantly surprised at the generous room size and the lobby decor. We picked this hotel based on proximity to the gare and the Place de la Comedie -- an easy walk. Nice little features in a place that is obviously a bit on the shabby side, but nowhere near the disaster described in other reviews and completely in keeping with the pricing. AC was not working -- it was still April -- but the windows opened fully (caution to those traveling with young children) so the room temp stayed quite comfortable. Because there are so many restaurants in such a small area, we chose not to eat in the hotel (except for the evening we bought tapenade and fresh bread at the Monoprix for an en suite picnic). I would have no qualms about staying here again. Staff -- top to bottom -- was accommodating,friendly and seemed genuinely anxious to make us feel welcome.

the good, the bad and the broken air conditioning
i stayed here back in may, we were unlucky enough to visit when the air con wasn't working. The room was ok, clean enough we had a twin room which in fairness was a bit on the small side. The Best parts of the hotel are the grand foyer and reception area and the new pool and sunbathing area which is a nice tranquil area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I didnt eat in the hotel, with so many great resteraunts on your doorstep, why would you?.

Work in Progress
This property became an Oceania Hotel just a week or so before i stayed there. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful and the public spaces are quite beautiful -especially the main lounge.The restaurant was rather characterless although the breakfast was excellent. My "executive" room was really spacious but poorly designed. the TV was placed in such a way that it was impossible to change channels from the bed, the bedside lamp was controlled from a switch in the hallway, the closet had insufficient space to hang clothes, the shower was difficult to operate until someone showed me how to work it....However the location of the hotel is excellent and i assume that with the new ownership, renovations will be done.

Very nice oldy-worldy
Stayed just 2 nights in this hotel with some trepidation, having read these reviews - AFTER making the reservation. However, I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel has a really nice atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff. Our room was a bit shabby, but clean and comfortable. Understand that Holiday Inn are selling this hotel to the Oveana group. Perhaps they will refurbish the rooms - they certainly need it! Would recommend.

Not the best!
I was really looking forward to staying in Montpellier, a place i had never visited before. Not knowing the area, i though 'Holiday Inn' was a safe bet in the centre of the city.It was almost impossible to find by car with very poor signage and a hotel car park hidden through the one-way system.The room was OK but really nothing special.
