Ok hotel. Not great but not bad...(tips about area too!)
We have just come back from 2 nights at this hotel. After reading the reviews on here before we left, we were really worried about going. But to be honest, nothing was as bad as we had read or feared. We checked in as early as 11:30 as we had an early flight to Barcelona, and thought we would have to drop bags and come back to check in later, but our room was ready and we got keys right away. The room was spacious, there was no smell when we got into room. There was a faint smell coming from the shower on occasion mainly worse, first thing on the morning, but as we had read reviews we took air freshners!!! Once we sprayed that it was fine. But nothing as bad as we thought. Hotel layout is different and you can hear reception phone ringing and breakfast plates etc first thing in the morning cos of the open plan layout of hotel, but it's quirky. Staff were generally polite. Reception always happy to ring us a taxi when we wanted one. Shopping centre gran via 2 is about 10 min walk away. And is really nice. Nice shops, and variety of places to eat as well as some fast food places like KFC and Burger King. Recommend pans and company. Unfortunately, we tried the metro after going to camp nou for a football match on the sat night. Wanted a taxi back but none to be found. So had to go to metro, luckily I had printed maps and metro maps, to get us back, however as the last persons review states, we too had a mission to get back for, belvitge metro which looks close and easy to get to and from hotel. It is not. We ended up there at 11pm on a sat night, following a map, and realised we were lost, trapped the wrong side of the train track and goodness knows now we eventually managed to get back to the hotel just before midnight after trekking on back streets, main roads, and dodgy areas. So our advice, don't get metro!! We didn't try buses or train but it seemed to be a good way. We paid out for taxis the rest of our trip so not to get ourselves lost and worried again!!!! We ate in the hotel one evening. It opens late 8:30pm-11pm, which is late for us English who eat at 6pm usually!;) food was plain, and not much choice but obvious that not many use the restaurant. Quite expensive too. Breakfast is ok, but not great. Overall, I wouldn't choose to stay here, as out of the centre of Barcelona and abit mission to get places, but as it was part of a deal and we had I choice in staying here, it was fine. We did what we wanted to, people were friendly, not as bad as others suggest, and we both slept well ( beds are quite hard though!)

Good Hotel (travel tips)
I stayed here for one night with my husband April 2013. The locations is further out of town but only 20mins by bus takes you into the centre (reflected by the price!). The bus stop is located directly behind the hotel and train station within a 10min walk. PLEASE DO NOT GET THE METRO TO THIS HOTEL!!!! You will find yourself wandering around motorways and blocked off by the train line (as we did) if traveling by public transport use Rail (Europa Fira) or bus L94 or L95 (from Catalunya to IKEA!)Make sure you get off at IKEA as you are not able to simply walk back to it if you over shoot the stop as the bus goes onto the motorway. There are also night busses operating on this route - very handy.We found the hotel itself pleasant and worth the price (including costs of extra travel)Rooms and public areas were clean and tidy and did not smell during our stay (as other reviews have stated). The gym was basic but covered all bases but unfortunately the swimming pool was FREEZING! Our safe locked and would not open (with passports inside) despite a warning on the safe of a 48hour wait for main key the safe was opened upon request. All staff members we came into contact with were pleasant and helpful.Breakfast was a variety of warm and cold foods with sweet and savoury available.When looking at the map when booking I did think it would be closer to a usable beach, although we did not look very hard we did not find a usable beach close by only a more industrial port.Also easy to get to the airport a bus run directly to the airport (all terminals) and takes aprox 30mins?

Hotel for Barcelona Fair. Avoid Groups this hotel
Last March I stayed at this Hotel leading a Group consisted of Univesities Professors and Teachers, Doctors, PH.Ds and families. The rooms were nice but its horrible decor was ridiculous. To have a shower you need to say last a mannual showing how to operate balls instead faucets. Very confused. Is this a Boutique Hotel? Would you like to be the Gaudi of the Hotel industry?Hotel staff is rude. From front desk to Breakfast room attendant. Breakfast very poor and the Waiter warns frequently the guests, wrong or right.The night front desk staff attending the morning front desk staff did not allow 5 persons of my group adults average 60 yeras old to remain in Bar area drinking wine after midnight. He said: go to your rooms or I will call the police.I tried to finilize my day work at front desk lounge to not disturb my roommate and againg the front desk auditor told me to leave the hotel or he would call police.Frankly bad hotel.

One to be avoided
I stayed here on business last week. Really, it was one of the worst hotels I have stayed in (and I've stayed in some pretty bad hotels). The overwhelming smell of sewage throughout the hotel made want to spend as little time there as possible (some of my colleagues even had to change rooms it was so bad). I took my gym kit with me but decided against it. My exercise was killing cockroaches in the bathroom. Also, minor point, no iron in bedroom... which makes staying there on business for a few days pretty hard unless you want to get all your shirts laundered as soon as you arrive at great cost.

A poor hotel, nothing to recommend it.
The single advantage of the Hotel Solvasa Barcelona is it closeness to the Fira exhibition centre. It has little else that I can recommend:-The breakfasts were chaotic-The room smelled of blocked drains, and several others requested moves to other rooms. The rooms on higher floors smelled less.-When checking out ¿¿¿ mini-bar items had been falsely added to the bill, albeit removed with no hassle.-Wakeup calls completely failed. - I could go on, but after staying 5 nights, I certainly won¿¿¿t be staying again.Of note, the 4 Star sign mounted outside the hotel had only two of the four lights working ¿¿¿ which sort of says it all.
