friendly,engaging,informal--a surprising experience for nyc
we stayed here the night before an unexpected snowstorm. ordinarily i wouldn't stay at the airport in ny, but we were afraid we wouldn't make it out to the airport for our onward flights once the snow started falling. the hotel's a coupla miles from the airport, and, as reported, not the quietest rooms i've been in. but that was more than compensated for by the friendly welcome, and highly personal service we received--from the people at the front desk, to housekeeping, to the shuttle bus driver everyone seemed delighted to have us stay there, and willing to do whatever they could to make our stay enjoyable. and it was!

So so and will avoid when possible
I only stay at this hotel when there is no other choice. I've had to stay there when my first choice Courtyard Marriott was booked. Rooms are small and both times I've stayed there there was a lot of noise. I arrived at Federal circle and called for the shuttle. Half an hour later no shuttle called again and the person at the front desk seemed amused at my anger as it was freezing outside. They then told me that I could have taken the hilton gardens shuttle to the sheraton. This hotel is off my list of places to stay in the future

Great stay, spacious rooms!
Dropped into the Sheraton late at night and the front desk employees were very gracious. We checked out the room beforehand and it was very clean. All was as it should have been. Called downstairs once and they were very friendly. Airport shuttle and a shuttle to other well knows in the area. Great stay!!

Decent Stopover Hotel
Stayed here just for the night to catch a flight next morning. Shuttle runs every half hour and it is not too far from JFK. Bedroom and Bathroom are nice. Club level has coffee machine and place to hangout in the lounge which is nice, so you are not sitting in the room.

Seriously Sheraton ... It might be better to not have an airport hotel or reflag this.
Maybe my night is making me angrier than need be but honestly what a mistake booking this hotel if you arrive on a late night flight. Unless you need to be by the airport or you are coming in during rush hour, you are better off picking a Sheraton or another Starwood property in Manhattan unless you are on a tight budget. The ride to a hotel in the City would have been the same as the time I spent getting to this airport hotel. So what is wrong? The experience started with it took me 41 minutes and probably 1.5 miles of walking with bags from my airport gate to get to a place where Sheraton picks you up for free. Kudos by the way to the bus driver- honestly best employee on the property. Here is the tip -- find out what terminal your flight will arrive on. If it is terminal 5 do not go Airtrain Route to Federal Circle unless you have no bags to carry and you are happy to waste time walking. I am sure if you exit the airport at that terminal a cab will rip you off taking you to the hotel (the bus driver even admitted that happens) but so be it- You won't be lugging your bags forever. So strike 1 is the employee when I called the hotel who told me indeed this was super close and easy to get to the airport to the hotel. That is simply not true from terminal 5. Maybe it is from other terminals. I expected ten minutes door to door. Instead it was 40+ and that was because the driver was there when i called. (Oh yea call immediately upon arrival at airport otherwise you will have more waiting). Now for strike 2, the check in experience was terrible. The hotel lobby is minute, and despite no one in front of me, the lady at checkin could only say I apologize I cannot check you in for a while bc she was busy. As a Starwood Gold member and former Platinum late at night, you check in your best customers as fast as possible. It probably took her 1 minute to give me a room key. Now for strike 3, the room is a joke for the price. Very neat but very dirty carpets and just doesn't feel clean. The bathroom is a little more spacious than average vs a city bathroom. The room does not even have a proper closet so hanging a pair of pants straight is not really possible unless you are short. As for the "club lounge" I have never seen a smaller club lounge. There were some cookies out and some free water and soda but no fresh fruit or what you usually see and no attendant. Given I did not book a club floor room, I should not complain. The lady at the desk gave me a free upgrade but seriously the space holds maybe 8 people at a time. Bedding typical Sheraton so no complaints there. Go read my other reviews, I rarely complain. I love Starwood but I feel bamboozled. This is not really a airport hotel experience (which I define about 15 minutes door to door) and the hotel is sub par for Sheraton. This should be called a Four Points or something else.
