HOTEL RENOIR, 39 Rue de Montparnasses
Do NOT book into this hotel! I have recently spent two nights there. It is wrongly described as 3 star. It is shabby, dirty and has numerous fire hazards and bad plumbing, - although every room has been equipped with a new flat screen TV! We stayed in rooms 61 and 63 on the sixth floor. On leaving the lift two enormous stains were immediately visible on the worn landing carpeting. In my own room the bed cover was stained and the piping was hanging loose. The bedside drawer was full of a previous guest's used tissues and the mini-bar contained only an old Pepsi bottle and a dirty sock! The handbasin in the shower room was blocked all weekend and there were holes in the cracked tiling at the bottom of the shower. Above the shower room were wooden slats through which it was possible to see that some sort of bedding material was stored there, adjacent to the light fittings! The guttering outside my window was full of old cigarette ends. In my friend's room there was an electric socket hanging loose by the door, with wires exposed, the shower head did not work properly and the mini-bar contained only a bad smell! The only reason we stayed was because the sheets and towels were clean, it was for only two nights and we had pre-paid! We only had one breakfast though (10 Euros extra per person) because the croissants were stale... Much better in local cafes!

Great location ok hotel
This hotel was well located for a weekend tour of Paris. All tge staff except one were friendly and helpful.Only one pillow each and was unable to get extra, habd towels not left on second day, requested and wasnt made easy.No tea/coffee facilities im the room, mains socket hanging out of wall and broken shower head mount. Apart from tgat room was good.We never went for breakfast so cant comment.

#39 rue du Montparnasse is a comfortable, clean hotel - we were very pleased
We booked this hotel through lastminute.com for a one night stay on Tuesday, 8 January 2013. It is very easy to find from the Montparnasse-Bienvenue Metro station.We were with given Room 25, which had two bedrooms with the usual set-up of adjoined single beds. Interestingly the beds had blanket and covers, rather than a duvet, but this wasn't a problem - the bedrooms were warm (with adjustable air-conditioning). Each room had a large flat-screen TV. The star of the show was the bathroon - absolutely spot-on, modern room with quality tiling, two basins, tall heated towel rail and a very large shower. Soaps and shower gels provided.Overall a very comfortable experience - the hotel was neat and clean. Not much noise, other than the occasional rumble of the Metro, but that can be heard or felt just about everywhere in the city!We would definitely recommend this as a base for a trip to Paris - the Montparnasse area is thriving with places to eat, and the Metro is very easy to use to get from A to B.NB: there is another Hotel Renoir further along this road on the other side. This review is definitely for 39 rue du Montparnasse, and it's a decent, up-to-date hotel, as described by lastminute.com.

Awful hotel with dirty,unhygienic rooms
This is an awful hotel do NOT stay here.Our room was really small, the bedclothes were stained, it had a terrible smell and was generally unhygienic. It was difficult to breathe at times as it was so dusty. The walls and furniture were in very bad condition and the sink in the bathroom had a deep crack running down it. The hotel has no standards of cleanliness or health and safety. The description on lastminute.com says it has been renovated but there is no evidence of that, either in the rooms or in the corridors or main areas which are dirty with frayed carpets and cracked walls. In addition there were naked electrical wires coming out of the walls in the corridor.In my opinion this hotel should not be open to the public.

Fine for location and as a place to stay
I stayed here during a conference and booked through Eurostar. On the positive side: the shower and air conditioning worked and the towels/sheets etc were clean and changed each day. Cons: this seems to be the kind of place that was last refurbished sometime in the 1980s but nothing since then. I'm sure it was great during the 80s and to be fair the bathroom was quite nice but the rest rather old and dated. Staff were not very welcoming or informative, there was no information about the fact you need to ask/pay for the lock for the in room safe (I only just noticed on a review to tripadvisor). So fine for a place to stay with working shower and clean sheets.
