I recently stayed here while on a family ski holiday. Upon arrival to the strictly no smoking hotel we had to change rooms as the first one we were given had a very strong smell of smoke. The second room was better but it would occasionally smell, we found out that many of the guests chose to ignore the no smoking policy and would smoke in the bathroom which would then get in the AC system so when we woke up we often had sore eyes as nobody in the party smoked. There is a sauna and swimming area which was fine but at the end of our stay we were informed we had to pay 8 euros everytime we had used the swimming area or sauna which had not been mentioned upon arrival. There is a much bigger and better swimming pool just across from the hotel that I would have used knowing I had to pay to use the hotels.

Whilst there were no real problems, there was nothing about this hotel that stood out as being good. The quality of the food at breakfast is average at best. We were extremely surprised that we were charged 8 euros per person to visit the sauna and steam room. Moreover, this charge was not advertised anywhere. The bar was ok until the barmaid that was serving us disappeared mid-shift one evening. Chaos ensued! My brother had to move room due to an overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke: not pleasant. I would suggest looking for an alternative.

the sol viella is a nice and confy hotel, good and well decorated rooms, average food, bad swimming pool area ( water is cold, no natural light, very small swimming pool), good location not far from the centre of village

We stayed at the Sol Vielha for 2 nights on August 2011. The situation is fine, not very far away from the centre of the village, although it would be better if it wasn't just in front of a huge car park with no lights (it was a little scary to come back from the town at night). On the other hand, that car park is conveniently near and, most important, free.The room was quite good: comfortable bed and pillows, big enough for two backpacks and all our stuff, and the bathroom was clean though a bit old, specially the bathtub. Nothing special.The spa zone is ok but very, very small, so it gets crowded easily, specially on evenings. Be sure not to bring anything valuable with you since there are no lockers. Oh, and remember to pack a towel because you can't enter the spa zone without one and using the ones of your room is not permitted. If you don't have a towel, they charge you 1 extra euro for one.We didn't like the restaurant. The staff looked tired and weird, and they were very slow. Moreover, they started to clean up before the restaurant was empty every time we went there. I suppose the food was ok but it was very repetitive. On a more positive hand, they have a kids menu which it's not bad (although pretty repetitive, like the adult option). We recommend only having breakfast there and trying other places in Vielha for lunch and dinner.They have wi-fi in the hall and in some rooms but we were told that it was a very low signal and that the best we could do was to stay in the common room if we wanted to surf the internet.The hotel offers guided tours every day and has a kids zone. We left a bit disappointed because the front desk staff was quite rude and slow and the check-out line was ridiculously long, but, all in all, it's not a bad hotel (although they lack in personality and definitely could improve in some aspects).Oh, and last but not least, excellent location to explore beautiful Val d'Aran.

My husband and I were on holidays driving through the north of Spain and Portugal. While we driving through the north of Spain, we had planned on stopping into Vielha for one night on our way to Donestia- San Sebastian. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to book a room at the Sol Vielha. After driving for approximately 6 hours through the Pyrenees Catalanes, we were quite tired and were expecting a decent room to rest up for the night. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When we arrived in the room, it was extremely hot. As my husband was travelling with medication that needed to be in a room that was not hotter than 25C, we needed a room with air conditioning. The amenities listed on the hotel website indicated that the hotel rooms had air conditioning. When we called to book the room the hotel reconfirmed that each room had air conditioning. When we advised the hotel receptionist that the air conditioning was not working, we were told that it would take time for the room to get cool and to open the windows in the meantime. We went to explore the town for a few hours and when we came back, the room was no better that when we arrived. We asked the hotel receptionist if we could have another room and we were told that all the rooms were booked. The receptionist was not very helpful and rude. The air conditioning never did work and we ended up having to open the windows and did not get a very good night sleep because there was a festival in the parking lot beside the hotel that lasted well into the night. Not only did the air conditioning not work, we were unable to unlock the room safe, the room is very dated and the hotel receptionist was rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend this hotel.
