Wonderful - simply wonderful
I was really concerned about two things 1) pierre vacances i stayed in 15 years ago and was really low class, bad furniture, bad heat, bad amenities and only good for a crashpad when skiing 2) the reviews on this board which for some reason are borderline favorable.I have lived in multiple countries and traveled around the world and a lot in Spain and Europe. My wife and I have a rule to be in a place that is at least as comfortable as our own home. Why go on vacation and be somewhere or someplace that is worse than home. As an American, I think we tend to have high standards on our own home.So too my surprise we arrive in a beautiful resort, very exclusive. We chose this hotel because they accept dogs. We have a labrador and two kids. The set-up is like having the best of both worlds - you have an "apartment" which is really a suite which includes a large terrace, two tvs, a comfy living room, a kitchenette and a very nice and large bathroom. We came for easter week, so the hotel was full, but you could not hear neighbors. It's the best of both worlds because you get the ease of an "apt" and "kitchenette" but you have a concierge service. We did it all, used the indoor pool with the kids, breakfast in the dining room every morning, masssage which was on special for 30 euros for 30 minutes, and even had a to call a doctor for the fever of my child. The front desk arranged for this and on Good Friday night the doctor arrived within 20 minutes and only cost 85 euros for the house call. She gave us the right meds and we were able to enjoy the rest of the holiday. Also, because our daughter was sick we asked to get room service and they offered anything on the restaurant menu -- not just the limited room service menu. I think some of the people who comment get a bit confused.. For example, some complain that you need a car -- well, that's a retarded comment -- did you not see the name of the hotel "altea hills". It's in the hills = you need a car. Rent one or go to another hotel. Cool places to check out Mascarat Port -- good restaurantsAltea old town -- beautiful spanish villageAlso i found the price/value ratio very high. We are definitely going back. I will recommend to friends in the area. As for those who found that there were no amenities, lack of service, etc.. we found it to be all the contrary. Everyone was lovely and we were never bored. Also the summer pool which was not open looks awesome. My caveat is that we took the "premium" package. Maybe there is a cheaper package and the rooms are not so nice? Some of the reviews make no sense

Don't go here October Onwards
We have just returned from 5 days stay here with our friends. We were 2 family's of 3. We arrived on Sunday at about 2pm after spending 2 hours waiting In a queue for the hire car, but thats another review. the hotel was deserted, no staff, except 1 on reception, no guests, deadly quiet. When asked where is everyone, we were told the hotel is closing for the winter on the 4th Nov,so everyone has finished. we were showed to 2 x 1 bedroom apts next to each other, completely different layout and condition. Our friends asked to move, but even though the hotel was empty they had a choice of 1 other room, which they took. All the other rooms had already been stripped for the close down. The rooms were a lovely size, very clean, we didn't,t have a view but at least our friends balcony got the sun on it in the afternoon. It's is correct you do have to get rid of your own rubbish, we were told to put it in the normal pavement bins outside the hotel, which looked awful. The pool area would be really lovely in season, but we had to ask for the pool to be cleaned before we could use, which took them 3 days to get around to it, the water was absolutely freezing, but the girls wanted to go in. We also got told that to use the indoor pool we had to pay 9euros per hour, and that children could only go in between 10-11 and 4-5, (remember the place was completely deserted) On the first night we were asked to leave the bar area at 7pm as it was shutting for the night!!!!! Which it did every night.Lucky there is a little bar across the road, run by some lovely people. we didn't try the restaurant as every time we went passed it, it was closed up, lights off. half the hotel was in darkness, we had to ask for lights to be put on so we could play a game of pool, for something to do. The staff that were there, were friendly and helpful.I could imagine this hotel being very nice when in full use, the decor was done in traditionally Spanish style which was very nice.I might consider going back again, but wouldn't,t be my first choice. We went into Altea for our evening meals, found a great little cafe/restaurant called Rascals, run by 2 lovely ladies, thoroughly recommend it.The taxi into Altea is about 12 euros, it is quiet away, you do need a car to get around.

Management need to consider added value services
Stayed for a couple of nights in September. The hotel is handy if you have friends living on Altea Hills but you need a car to get around. For beaches, shopping, restaurants, even bars, it's a bit remote even if you're relying on taxis. The hotel is physically large, spread out over quite a large area; the gardens and pools are pleasant and well maintained. The room was large, clean and comfortable. We only had breakfast in the hotel and the buffet was adequate. The restaurant and bar staff were polite and helpful, though the bar seems to close at midnight. The staff on reception whom we met at check-in were slow to allocate our room and, later , simple requests to reception (for pool towels) were not handled very well. And I suggest that management have to consider providing a bit more in the way of added value services if they want to compete/survive.In summary, not bad, but not great.

Dangerous food
We ate in the hotel restaurant for lunch one day as we were in an apartment at Las Jardines and wanted to try out the hotel. The menu was a bit basic and my husband and I opted for a burger as we had been eating fish all week. My daughter had a chicken ceasar slaad. The burger looked grey and arrived really quickly.. The bun it was sevred in was wet. My heart sank as the last thing I wanted on a sunny afternoon was a fuss so I thought I would just eat the burger and the salad. The more I ate it the more I thought the tomato was frozen. Imagine my horror when I realsied it was not the tomato that was frozen but the burger itself by which time my husband and I had eaten half of it. It was solid frozen in the middle. My husband's was exactly the same. My daughter had pushed away her plate saying the sald was covered in a really cheesy dressing and there was no chicken in it which wa smkaing her feel queesy. We complained and declined to pay. We were shrugged off so we went to the main hotel and complianed to the amnager. I was terrified we would be ill. The manager was very pleasant and full of apologies but siad nothing reassuring of any substance She took my number and called me back after she ahd been and spoken to therestauarnt She dismissed it as a one off and said we were welcome to attend for dinner that night on the house to prove they could cook. Whilst I appreciate the gesture it was never going to be taken up... a disgrace me thinks as they could amke people very sick.
