Nice stay
Had a nice stay here with my partner, however there are some little niggly things to mention. Check in was okay however I felt slightly overlooked since we were only staying for one night & felt the receptionist was much friendlier to the couple in front who were obviously golfers and staying a few days. Our room was in the main building & the receptionist old us that getting there would involve about 4 sets of stairs, shame she also failed to mention the other 10 sets inbetween, the hotel is very large & like a maze! The room was nice & large but very strangely had a connecting door to the next room, although the door was locked from our side I didn't feel particularly comfortable with this. The room was clean with tea & coffee facilities & a flats screen tv, however the carpet needed re-laid as it was coming up in the middle of the floor. The gym in the hotel is very small & feels a bit squashed, the pool is excellent though & the sauna & steam room too. We ate in the bar at night although or a 4 star hotel I would have expected table service, but the food was nice. The bed was comfortable enough however duck feather pillows are a big no go for me, very uncomfortable!! Views surrounding the hotel are beautiful & I would stay again for the price we paid.

Good value - 3 star
We stayed on sat 27th April for a one night stay - 3 females meeting up to celebrate our birthdays. We wanted a hotel with pool including breakfast and dinner and paid ¿¿55 each, sharing a family room with 2 double beds. The room had all facilities you would want and was very comfortable with clean bathroom and no sign of negative comments mentioned by previous reviewers. We were in Room 31 and had plenty of room for the 3 of us, very comfortable with great views over to Dumbarton. Staff were very friendly and helpful at reception, at dinner and at breakfast. 3 course diner advertised at ¿¿25 was good and recommended. Breakfast was a good selection and nice. Breakfast was part of our package but I think if I had to pay ¿¿12.95 for it I wouldn't be describing it as value for money - ¿¿9.95 would be more like the price I would pay. Overall for ¿¿55 we felt we had value for money and a comfortable and enjoyable stay with nice food and very nice staff. My negatives- It is more 3 star and not 4 star as it is a little tired in some of its decor. I felt it was in need of a bit of an upgrade in some of the public areas. - We had a room with a connecting door and the girls in the room next door were very audible late at night. - why not have a cigarette bin at the external bar doors rather than the unsightly litter of cigarette ends in the flower beds- Cobwebs in the corner of the room - Also I notice that Elaine's right to reply comments rarely ever address any of the negative comments on tripadvisor and generally only focus on positive comments. Easy to make comments on the positives but why not tackle the negatives? Doesn't sound like a hotel addressing the issues customers have which isn't very impressive. Overall we had an enjoyable, value for money stay but I wouldn't rate this hotel as 4 star.

lovely hotel
stayed here with the girl friend, what can I say as soon as we walked in we were taken aback by it. The General Manager elaine was a delight as was the reception staff. Food was so yummy, bed was really comfortable. restaurant staff were nice. will be back again soon.

Not particularly impressive...
We took advantagecof a hotel connections offer. We ate nearby so didn't take advantage of the restaurant. From the outside the hotel makes a good impression, grand golf course, plenty of parking. Once we entered the reception it felt a bit "cold" and too "open". We were given our key and off we went imbed umpteen stairs with two dogs. Needless to say it took a couple of trips. The room itself was spacious, clean and had all the mod cons, tv, coffee making facilities, etc. The bathroom was clean, although had seen better days... Overall we were relatively pleased. However, we did not last the night. The floorboards were so creaky and fellow guests or even staff were walking past our room making a lot of noise... Unfortunately our dogs did not like this. They are not used to creaking floorboards...

This Hotel Is Far From Being a 4* !!!!!
My partner & I stayed at this hotel in March for 2 nights. The drive up to the hotel was lovely, the views across the water were beautiful & the sun was shining. Got to the hotel & first impressions from OUTSIDE were positive.. walked into reception and thats when i should have turned round & ran the hell out of there!I found the reception area had very old fashioned decor & was very dull, but we didnt let that put us off as the reception isn't your room at the end of the day. After climbing lots of stairs with our luggage we eventually got to our room. When entering our room it was adequate, lots of light, & had refreshments i.e tea, coffee, biscuits. The bathroom was ok looked like it needed a good clean!! plug attatchment had come away from the sink, toothpaste splashes on mirror/taps.The cleanliness of the room didn't get much better! staines on carpet, lamp shades & valance, thick with dust on tables, dresser, tv, trouser presser & on pictures. The "double" bed was on the small side & there was a rip on the quilt cover but this was hidden under the very old fashioned throw at bottom of bed. The following day we went out & visited some friends who stay in the area. We got back round about 3pm & the minute we walked into our room there was a horrible smell of body odour, i was nearly physically sick! My partner had to open the windows & spray his deodrant about the room like it was airfreshner!! so a housekeeper is needing to take care of their own cleanliness before doing rooms! After that we got ready & headed down to restaurant for something to eat & a few drinks. We met some lovely people in the bar. so we headed back to our room with our drinks. In the morning of our departure i noticed my partner spilled his drink on the bed so i stripped the quilt cover off & to my horror i found blood staines on the actual quilt, so i investigated more to find the pillows were practically brown, there was an old grubby mattress protector over the mattress & when i removed that the mattress was DISGUSTING!!!!! i had never seen anything so foul in all my time staying in a hotel especially from 1 marked down as being 4*!!! We packed our bags & left ASAP!! Fair to say we will NEVER be returning to this hotel & we will be warning our friends & family of this hotel also! So if you do decided to stay at this hotel... CHECK YOUR BED!!!!
