We had a good stay
Before we left to go to this hotel, I too had read about poor reviews of this hotel but I always think go and judge for yourself. We had a good deal from Travel zoo DBB, but when booking I decided to opt for the upgrade room......maybe this is the better choice? I do think some of the complaints are down to the rooms that haven't been updated yet. We checked in at 3pm, the man on reception told us all we needed to know and asked us what time we would like to eat that evening. We got to our room (161) and were very pleased, spacious, clean, lovely modern bathroom couldn't ask for more. Had no noise during our stay.Checked out the bar and restaurant area and then walked round the hotel. Yes they are refurbishing but we didn't see any work being carried out until the bank holiday monday. There are areas that look very tired but this hasn't happened overnight or in the last twelve months.Restaurant: Evening meal, we had the cavery 3 course meal - food was nice, the wine not so nice! The restaurant manager was good, he appeared to be multi tasking, as was the chef. Sign of the times I think, companies trying to manage on less staff. Shame really, this hotel could benefit from more staff in the bar and restaurant area. Maybe staff being organised better? Delegate the staff to do specified tasks i.e. ensure food does not run out, starters/dessert.Breakfast: We have stayed in various hotels in the North West area (eg Hilton, Crowne Plaza, St David's Park and others) and have to say the breakfast was one of the nicest we had eaten. Plenty of choice we had no issues at all.Didn't use the pool as it looked quite busy - our choice.Checking out: Lovely lady, sorry forgot to get her name. There were problems with the system and she apologised for our wait. We both told her we had enjoyed our stay and our room had been lovely. We would go back to this hotel, providing we get the same type of room again! Also for us it is an ideal hotel to stay the night before going onto manchester airport.

Quality is slipping
I have stayed here a good number of times and I have found the quality is slipping as far as standard of rooms go, the food and service I'd still quite good though, breakfast was excellent. Prices are coming down which makes it better value, some rooms are being updated so may get better

Daresbury Park Hotel, Nr Warrington
Arrived at the Hotel on 6th May Saturday afternoon booked in to the reception, was busy but the staff were good. Has we walked to our room via the lift level 3 the work men were rewiring some offices and in the corridor there was dirty towels and trays left out side the rooms, as we approached our room 340 we went through double fire doors and the smell of dirty water was really bad, once we were in the room all was ok, only we were unable turn the heat down. The d¿¿cor was looking very 70s and tired but clean. That night we spent at the hotel and had a drink in the bar all was ok and the service was good to bed and the room was boiling hot even with the windows open. The next morning had breakfast which was good and the young staff were very good and happy to look after you.On the 2nd day we had a carvry roast dinner in the restaurant which was very good and the service was excellent, that night the maid had left a fan in the room after we had remarked about the heat in the room. The following morning we had breakfast and checked out, we remarked to the receptionist that the young staff were polite and very helpful and well trained.last time I stayed at this Hotel was 25 years ago not long after it had been built it seems to need a good make over and the d¿¿cor is now looking tired. but the staff work very hard to make sure your stay was enjoyable. But for ¿¿49 per night with Breakfast it was very good value.

Great Value weekend Deal
We stayed here as a party of 4 in 2 double rooms over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We had booked aTravelzoo deal at ¿¿59 per room for bed, breakfast, dinner and bottle of wine. Having seen some of the reviews we were a little nervous as to what we would encounter but we needn¿¿¿t have worried. We were checked in courteously and efficiently. Our rooms were more than adequate for the rate and we were only staying the one night so didn¿¿¿t need more than a bathroom and somewhere to sleep. The rooms are a good size. Yes they could do with a facelift, but then the rate would probably have to double to recoup the costs. We had booked a table for dinner at 8.15 and went to the bar for a pre-dinner drink, not the cheapest but also not the most expensive hotel bar we had used, and though busy, we were served quickly and efficiently. We were shown to our table on time and were pleasantly surprised to be advised that, in addition to the carvery of beef. Turkey and ham, the chef could also cook to order either chicken, salmon or steak. 2 of us chose steak and they were lovely pieces of sirloin, with a plentiful supply of vegetables. The 2 of us who had the carvey were given 4 slices of meat so plenty to eat. We also had a reasonable choice of cold meats and pate and salad for starters and the house wine included in the deal was fine. The Sunday morning buffet breakfast again had a plentiful choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurts etc plus a full English and toast and pastries. Coffee was provided on the table and the waitress topped ours up upon request.Check out was efficient and overall this hotel more than delivered for the deal we had and we would highly recommend it. It is well placed for visiting local attractions in Chester, Liverpool etc. The staff could not be faulted for their helpfulness.

Worst hotel stay of my life!!
Stayed here 3 days in May Bank holiday after booking through Travelzoo. Arrived at 9.00pm. to find no lights in glass tunnel through to rooms. Restaurant which was supposed to serve til 9.30pm had very little food (one roast and two containers of brocoli and carrot. It has been under heat lamps all night and was shrivelled and dry. Very unappertising so after a 3 hour journey we had to go out and find a decent pub to eat. Hotel room very hot, smelly, dirt and dust everywhere. We were told on arrival that there was refurbishment going on. The dirt and dust was not down to this it was down to rooms not being cleaned properly and thoroughly. Bathroom taps not working properly and dirt under sink in the corners and the backs of the doors and skirting boards thick with dust. Tried to change room to a refurbished one but were refused, There was no management available and reception staff attitude was one of a 'couldnt care less attitude'. It is time the management took responsibility and do the job they get paid for - not leave it up to a bunch of kids who no nothing and couldnt care!!! If you are thinking of trying this hotel because you get a cheap offer, think again, Premier Inn and Travelodge are a much superior option.
