Conveniently Close to Fiumicino
Stayed overnight at this hotel. Arrived into FCO Saturday and have a departure scheduled from FCO to EWR at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Hotel is the first stop if you are taking the shuttle from airport. It's almost like a full service Marriott Hotel as it has a well-stocked bar and a restaurant which is open for dinner as well. Most restaurants in Courtyard Marriotts are open only for breakfast and the outdoor pool (it was closed when we stayed) is fairly huge for a Courtyard. Have no real complaints - this is better than your normal Courtyard hotel. The check-in was efficient and quick. We really just needed to stay somewhere close to the airport so we do not have to take the long Leonardo Express ride from Rome to the airport. The shuttle ride is about 5 minutes each way - very convenient (cost of 6 euros each way paid at the hotel). We had dinner at the hotel (although there are so many other restaurants in the area - close to the river) which was good. The bar also had the buffet available for happy hour for 10 euros should you wish to have some drinks (discounted) and some appetizer type sandwiches to munch on. Service is excellent at both the bar and the restaurant. We slept okay at this hotel - there were a couple of times that I woke up to sounds of voices in the corridor.Overall, we had a decent stay at this hotel. Depends on what your needs are - if you are making this your base hotel for a few days in Rome then I would recommend that you scope out hotels in the Termini area - not too out of the way and very accessible from within and outside of Rome. This hotel is more of a transient hotel for those who need to stay close to the airport. Although, it is a very good one with more amenities than you would expect from an airport hotel.

Poorly managed large hotel
Food was good. Hotel management was terrible. We had a 3 person room. We were given no instruction on how to turn on air conditioning/ventilation system. When we figured it out, it did not work. We called reception 3 times. Third time they sent a young service worker up. He pulled in a ladder and pushed the paneled ceiling a few times and then "non-functional" . It was by then 11 PM and we had a 530 AM get up.Last thing I heard was "Reception will contact you". I spoke to reception on my way out. A different person of course at the desk. She apologized, but it does not make up for lack of sleep. We would have been more comfortable spending the night at the airport.

Try the Marriott Courtyard Rome Airport for a 1 night stay.
Have been to Rome a number of times and usually stay close to the airport on arriving and departing. Marriott Courtyard Rome Airport has been my choice as the price is right when booking on line.compared to other nearby hotels. My only complaint is the 6.00 Euro O/W airport charge to and from the hotel. That adds another 12 Euro to your hotel bill if you use that service. The advantage is that the Hotel is located within a few miles - 15 minutes to the airport or less.The hotel is nice and the rooms are very clean with very good beds.Front desk staff are happy to have you and go out of there way to help you.Since we came by rental car (on 4/29/2013) from Almalfi Coast, they have ample parking to rest your car. We left for the airport the following day and dropped our rental car off at the airport. Saved 12 Euro.There usually is a charge, to park your car ,however the exit gate entrance was broken and they waived the fee which was a nomial amout compared to what you would pay at other hotels near the airport.Resturants are located near by.I will need to do more research on other hotels that are close by.for price, location and free shuttle service to and from the airport.Sydney Paul

A good hotel
If you want to stay near the airport before leaving Italy the next day, I recommend the hotel. The rooms are adequate, the bed comfortable, and the workout room and pool area are stunning. But the real find here is the town of Portenuse. If you walk out the gates and turn right, you will be in the town in two blocks. This is not a tourist trap. Walk along the river and find a restaurant that suits your taste. Within a block you will find at least four different eateries. Don't forget to stop at the Patessiere after dinner. Here you will find the most amazing assortment of Italian pastries at ridiculously fair prices that you can take with you to eat at the airport the next day or eat right there. However, I would recommend you take the pastries with you and purchase the gelato for your dessert. They are the most generous portions in all of Italy. You KNOW what I mean. The people there are very friendly and accommodating! If you have time, stroll around town with your cone and beautifully wrapped pastries. You will enjoy the authenticity of a real Italian town.

Mediocre Hotel
On the plus side, it's clean and the front desk staff was helpful. On the negative side, it costs 6 euros (if I remember correctly) to take the bus into town (which is okay if you're traveling alone but a family of 5 would cost 30, something to think about), the surrounding area seems seedy and the hotel itself looks old. I was going to give it 3-stars until I saw the breakfast. It was surprisingly good! Eggs, meat, breads, jams, juices, coffee/cappuccino/espresso, salads (green olives, too, yummy) and fruit. It was all really fresh, too! So after that, I definitely liked the hotel much better (at least by 1 star). If you can pay a little more, I'd recommend the Rome Airport Hilton which is walking distance from the Fiumicino airport/train station and has free bus service to Rome (plus they have a fantastic breakfast, as well). All in all, though I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay again, it was not a bad experience particularly. Just nothing special.
