Hotel 5 mns from Insead, good wi-fi, bad food
This hotel is boring, with bad food, and slightly uncaring staff in the restaurant/room service. Slightly feels like it stopped developing in the 90s.On the positive note, the wi-fi is stable and strong, rooms relatively quiet. It is a 10-minutes walk to the town center, 5 minutes to Insead. Reception staff is nice. Daily free Evian water is a nice gesture.I was unhappy with the pillows - very thick and uncomfortable to sleep on.

Quite Standard
I stayed here for a week during a short course in INSEAD. Perhaps most of the guests are related to the university and therefore I was surprised that when I just arrived on Sunday (when the university was off), there was very limited menu can be chosen from the restaurant. And threfore I need to find meal outside, which was not very nice since I need to walk for 15 minutes to get to the nearest restaurant on the rain during winter. Terrible on weekends but I think it was ok during business days. The front office staffs were helpful and efficient, the breakfast was also ok. The bedroom was spacious with standard equipment. Wifi is sometimes terrible. The bathroom was rather old fashioned but everything was working well. The location is I think suitable for my purpose, meaning it was on walking distance (only 3 minutes) from the university. Neighbouring area was calm since it is located in the residential area, so it is fine if you are searching for peacefullness.So you see, it is a quite normal and quite standard hotel. Don't expect more.

OK, but...
Modern hotel; clean and well appointed. Furnishings and fittings are good, except for the awful plastic basin and shelving. The wifi was fair if occasionally erratic on the 4th floor. Good parking and pleasant grounds. The hotel is about 12 minutes walk from the town centre along a narrow, uninteresting road. There is a nice reception area and the bar and restaurant have a good feel to them. Breakfast was frankly poor: there were no warm plates and the 'hot' food wasn't. Coffee was undrinkably bitter. Service was willing and smiling, but untrained. The lunch and dinner menus were simply uninteresting and over-priced. This hotel has everything going for it, but somehow fails to deliver as it should. A good 3*, but no more.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel
The Fontainebleau Mercure is well located in a quiet residential neighborhood, a bit out of the way yet within reach of the ch¿¿teau and downtown area on foot. The lobby is nice, however the place shows its age as soon as you leave it. The corridors are a bit run-down. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed but the chairs have seen better days. Nothing seems able to stay in place: you want to open the window, it slowly closes of its own accord; you want to reposition the glass shower partition, it slides back to its (inadequate) original position.In the bathroom, the tiles are pockmarked and everything looks like it could do with a much needed overal renovation. The bath products tubes are very small, barely enough for one adult to shower, but insufficient for two... In the corridor the wood closet is quite tired too, with an aggressive bit of wood sticking out 10 centimeters at forehead level, perfect to get a serious injury if you're not careful when manipulating the (rugged) closet doors... There is a small fridge but only two small water bottles in it (one is compliments of the house), and in the closet the coat hangers are good quality but very scarce...The bed was good (narrower than a queen size, though), with excellent linens and four pillows, and the electric kettle was of good quality and squeaky clean, which was a good surprise.In general, this Mercure looks more like an older 3-star than a 4-star hotel, and making people pay almost 100 euros per night for this is clearly overcharging, at least by 20 percent. For this reason, I cannot recommend this hotel, at least until they renovate it completely.

Grat Value
Rely nice hotel not far from the centre of the town and at the end of the same street as the chateau. Breakfast is good with a nice selection but the evening meals are a bit boil in the bag with a poor selection especially if your a veggie and closed some nights. Nice friendly staff though clean rooms and free WIFI and good off street parking.
