Ugly Duckling of the Metropolitan Family
I have had occasion to stay at other Metropolitan properties including those in Vancouver and the SoHo Metropolitan in Toronto. Recently The Metropolitan was the designated conference hotel for a meeting I was attending. I booked a Luxury King Room. The room was clean but I can echo other reviews in saying it was in dire need of a facelift. From the old and small television to the wall art to the furniture everything screamed 1993. Desk staff were quite aloof on check-in but better when it came to check out and helping with a request.This is a good location if you have things to do downtown and in the hospital district with easy access to the Queen and Dundas street car lines as well as the subway.

Decent Location
A fairly nice older hotel which is located close to Chinatown. The hotel is converting to a Doubletree Hotel by Hilton, so I would expect a major facelift this year. The location was good and the bar staff were great. The front desk staff were not the friendliest which took me by surprise. The bell hop and concierge were excellent. The food was a plus.

It was just ok...very dated hotel, could use a renovation!
I stayed here for a girls getaway weekend. For the price of the room I expected a lot more. The room is very dated with worn out wallpaper on the walls and sections of it missing, stains on the curtains, worn down carpet, outdated decor (think early 90's) and a tube tv. It is not what I would call a luxury hotel. The location is fantastic, and that is one the best things about this hotel. The bed was clean & comfortable. The hotel is desperately in need of a renovation.Check-in was fine, however they charge a ridiculous mandatory $8 plus tax fee for wireless internet & 2 bottles of water. Parking was under renovation, so we parked across the street. When we checked out at noon the following day, there was a huge line-up and only 1 person working. Eventually 2 other people came out to help out with the line-up, but I have no idea why a hotel would only have 1 person on duty at checkout time. I probably would stay here again if it was just for 1 night, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a longterm stay. There are much nicer places to stay in Toronto that don't cost much more.

Good location however needs a make over.
Room was quite small and furniture/decor very out dated. TV and air conditioning unit very old. Free Wifi however was slow and worked intermittently. On the positive side, staff were great and restaurant was really nice. Hopefully management will initiate some renovations as this place does have potential.

Expect the unexpected
When checking in and out of the hotel there was a huge line up and long wait time. After checking in to the hotel, my boyfriend and I settle down our bags and go to lie on the bed only to discover there's blood on the sheets. We scrambled around to check ourselves thinking one of us is hurt.. We were not. When entering the washroom for the first time, there were fresh droplets of blood on the floor as well. We called the front desk, explaining the situation, we simply to asked to change our sheets.. After returning from the pool they were still left unchaged. We weren't offered any compensation. When we got home from our trip and emailed the from desk manager, we were never gotten back to. Only after emailing the GM were we compensated for our stay. The second time around, we had a good stay. We were welcomed with chocolates. The room was clean and staff was friendly at the front desk both times. Although this experience did not steer us away from the hotel, we would definitly stay here again.
