Fun, Simple, and Great for kids
We booked a family suite at the Helix. The room was a little worn and had seen better days, it is really time for an upgrade on fabrics and bathroom. House Keeping left much to be desired and I even had a house keeper yell at me when I asked for the room to be furnished with bathroom glasses and extra towels , most of the house keeping staff was rude in the hotel. Now for the good! The room was very spacious, especially for a hotel in a large city. We had three large rooms, one room housed the king bed, one dressing room/closet, and a large living room. The bed was comfortable and sheets were clean. The hotel allows a $10.00 credit for the fully stocked mini bar if you are a Kimpton member. The lobby was always full, offering free wine in the late afternoon. Food was very good considering it was a hotel. Snacks and Bar menu had some creative dining choices. Front desk was a mix, some were nice and some could not stop having personal conversations and texting long enough to take care of you. The hotel was in a great location, coffee shop , dry cleaners, whole foods all with in 5 min walking distance. Taxis were easy to find from this location, transportation was never a problem. I would stay here at this property again if I got a good deal, it just needs a little updating.

Nickel and Dimed . . . . Not what we expected.
Went to DC with a friend, we did get a really good rate but then found out how they will make back their money. Parking was $39.00 a night ($50.00 with tax) and went up while we were there to $42.00 for the new customers. Continental breakfast cost $12.00, internet $11.99 a night. The robes they promise are not the nice fluffy ones you would think and only one was supplied, they are actually stiff. They also offer fuzzy socks but they are $15.99 a pair.Went to put food in the fridge and there was mold, manager packed us up and moved us to another room. Did give us one continental breakfast each for the mold and moving us. While my friends car was stored it received a ding on it. When they delivered the car they delivered it off the premises outside on the road with traffic, now they state we left the premises and they won't fix my friends car (they delivered the car off the premises - huh?) Alright location. Comfortable beds. Had a great time in DC, had so many little things happen while we were at the Helix it became comical.

Cute hotel, fun decorations
The rooms were nice, with good bedding and nice pillow options. The wallpaper in my room was peeling in places, and the bathtub was only 3 or 4 inches from the toilet - but that didn't really bother me. The bar downstairs was nice, and the service was great. I'd stay here again.

Loved
I've stayed here twice, both on business. The hotel is fun and hip. The room decor made me feel like a movie star from the 70s (in a good way, rooms have nice retro furnishings). Although the subway is about 10-15 minutes away, i really enjoyed the neighborhood. Bugaboo coffee has great breakasts and whole foods is 1 block away.

Least favorite Kimpton but not a bad choice
Kimpton's are may favorite and I and working my thru the DC offerings. This property is fairly typical for here and not at all like Kimpton properties in other areas, even across the river. This property tries too hard to be trendy, or perhaps I am just getting old. Nothing wrong with my room but is the smallest bathroom I have seen here. Staff was great expect for a bartender who very clearly wanted to go home and shut down a full bar at 10 on Sunday with no last call. Location is great and just off 14th so lots of food, shopping, and draining options. Maybe a 20-25 min walk to the White House.
