What are you complaining about!
My wife and I just visited this establishment over the bank holiday weekend for a sight seeing visit to Edinburgh. We were greeted a warm welcome and staff were very polite and also very knowledgeable about the local area which was much appreciated. Our rooms were clean and tidy and breakfast was absolutely fine. We did not have opportunity to eat dinner as we were out in the evenings but did manage to speak to other guests who said that they enjoyed their dinner. Honestly can't see what people are complaining about because my wife and I had a delightful experience and would certainly recommend again. The only gripe I have got is that I was with the Mrs:(

GIVE IT A MISS
I have recently returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel 2nd&3rd May which was booked for my husband and myself as a present, unfortunately our son didn't check out the reviews before booking, this is a lesson to be learnt. To begin with we had truoble when trying to book our 2 night stay as every date I gave the owner he said they were fully booked, they did have a room available but we would have to pay an extra ¿¿20 per night, I refused to do this saying it had already been paid for and I wasn't prepared to pay more, what dates did they have available, his reply was oh well to keep the lady happy you can have those dates( amazing as they were previously fully booked). The evening before our arrival the owner phoned me and said would we check in at 4pm as there would be no-one available to check us in earlier, also dinner would be at 6pm, I agreed even though it meant we had to waste time travelling up from Northumberland to arrive there at the alloted time!We duly arrived at 4pm and as we opened the door there was an overwhelming smell of curry, the reception was very dark and uninviting, we were checked in by an Indian lady who gave me a printed sheet to complete asking for details of my car etc, she also asked for credit card details, when I asked why as the room etc was paid for and I had no intention of having any extra's she told me it was in case of any damage caused, I was also asked for sort code as well as the number, I refused to give this! This lady who I believe to be the mother of the owner told me that breakfast was at 9-30 which I thought to be rather late as by the time we had eaten and got out the day would be half over and we only had Friday in Edinburgh before moving north on Saturday but thought I didn't have a choice. We were shown to our room no 4, I have to say the room was very clean although small, the shower was clean but the water took some time to get hot.At 6pm we went to the dining room for the evening meal which I have to say was disappointing to say the least, there was no choice at all, it was tinned vegetable soup, 2 very small pieces of chicken (when I say small I mean about 1and a half inches square), frozen vegetables and a few frozen chips, followed by ice cream OR coffee, they would have been better not including dinner in this offer! I asked about the breakfast time as in the room behind the door was a sign saying breakfast was between 7-30 - 9, and was told we could have breakfast at 8-15, the owner also made a point of telling us that people put things on tripadvisor to mislead clients, believe me I am not doing that but why mention it in the first place. As my husband and I were getting ready for bed about 10pm we sat on the end of the bed (the mattress, not the bed end ) and it collapsed, the bed end fell off, my husband went to speak to the owner but the dining room door was locked, we thought we would have to sleep on the floor, he actually must have heard someone trying the door and shouted up the stairs, when we told him what had happened he said he would come and fix it, about 5 minutes later he rang me to say we had to wait half an hour then go down and we would be given a bigger room, another 10 minutes passed and he rang again and said come down now, we did this and were given another room which was very good as they were supposed to be fully booked, this room No 3 was infact smaller but clean and at least the bed didn't collapse! The following morning we went for breakfast expecting to see other clients only to find no-one only ourselves, we were given coffee, and cooked breakfast consisting of the most disgusting sausage I have ever tasted in my life, it was soft, squelshy and tasteless, with it was a few beans, a fried egg and 1 slice of toast with a portion of spread, no juice, ceriel or more toast was offered, I have since read on other peoples comments if you ask for cooked breakfast you cannot have the juice etc. Breakfast should be a relaxing start to a day, we ate

Never again!!
Booked to stay here last minute. All I wanted was a quiet night watching tv before travelling the following morning - How I wish I would have spent an extra few quid somewhere else! The place is in desperate need of a makeover. The room was dreadful, the tv didn't work and the bathroom wasn't even in the room - ¿¿90 for this!! But i was informed on arrival the price was due to it being a family room. Why could I have not been told about the faults when I was booking? Surely if everything is not working as it should be, they should at least offer a discount or maybe have the decency to inform the companies that are selling the room for them! You can't even justify paying half the price for the room. Avoid it at all costs.

BIRTHDAY WAS SPOILED !
Well.......where to begin....Lets start with the glorious reviews this place has been given which my girlfriend unfortunately didn't see before she booked the deal with KGB,as i'm sure she wouldn't have even bothered with this place if she had read them!!Anyway we had a lovely train journey from Doncaster an was feeling really excited about our first ever visit to Edinburgh, this mood soon went down as we got to the hotel.....when we arrived the door was locked an we greeted by a rough looking shaved headed man,who complained straight away about the time we had arrived(although this had been agreed previously with the hotel due to our train times)He took us into the reception area,i was actually in shock that this place was even allowed to operate as an hotel, ive seen cleaner looking public toilets and bus shelters!!anyway i thought to myself its only 2 nights and it is paid for so lets just get on with it....The guy then went behind his desk and started to tell us about the reviews they have had on trip advisor and to just ignore them and enjoy our stay.....fair enough. The first thing he did was to take a copy of our KGB deal voucher (i presume this is how they get there money for our stay?)we were asked to fill out our details on another form, after we did this he then told us to turn the page over and read the terms and conditions of the hotel.this list was quite epic,a couple of things stood out such as "we have the right to change the price of the room at anytime" and another asking for a further ¿¿50 deposit for any damage caused to the rooms,we had already paid the fee for the room and another mysterious payment of ¿¿25 into a Mr Kumars private account and nothing else was mentioned about another payment, when we questioned this we were told that the previous person who took our booking had been sacked for reasons he didn't want to say,we were then told that he would take my credit card details instead of the deposit to which i declined.....i told the guy i would pay the deposit if i could actually check the room before hand to make a list with him of any damage i could see, which he told me that wasn't the policy and i was disrespecting him as a manager of a hotel....i now know after seeing the pictures people have posted on here of the state of the rooms it would have taken our whole 2 day stay to log everything that was wrong with the rooms!!!After a heated debate and which resulted in my girlfriend running out of the premises i was threatened with the police if i didnt leave the hotel,i asked for a number to contact the hotel owner to report the whole situation,so he gave me a mobile number for Ron the general manager.after being kicked out on to the streets of Edinburgh at 2200hrs,with nowhere to stay,my girlfriend in pieces we made our way back down the road to try an find somewhere else to stay.we came across a lovely looking place called Murray Fields hotel, after telling the girl on reception our tale of horror, she managed to sort us out a room and all so offered to make us a hot meal(although food had finished being served, proper customer service right there!! )the next day we were upgraded into the newly renovated house which is owned by the same place, the house was amazing!!one of the best places ive stayed in.so if anyone is looking to stay somewhere with great customer service, clean rooms, really good breakfasts look no further than murray fields hotel & house. soooo what started off to be a nightmare visit to scotland turned out ok in the endfinal words........DO NOT STAY AT WESTERN MANOR HOUSE HOTEL!!!!!!Andy & Julija

'Welcome Return'
We returned back to Scotland with an oversea's friend to show him around Edinburgh. We stayed at this Hotel again, as we were very pleased with our previous stay. Once again thank you to the Hotel Staff for their warm welcome. The Manager was very helful in giving us information on all the nice places for us to visit. The rooms were very clean, the shower was great and the breakfast provided was just right to start the day-off We enjoyed our stay again and will reccomend this Hotel to friends and family. Looking at some of these reviews, they do not make any sense to us as our experience was satisfactory and we were please with the service provided..
