great hotel for price
This hotel was lovely the staff where help full and friendly, the buffet food was good but not great but still we found something to eat every night and my gf is very fussy. Its in a great location for the loro parque you can walk from the hotel and you can walk into the town in 5 minutes. The little bars outside are ,much cheaper for drinks than in the hotel.The entertainment was actually quite good and funny for a change, I would recommend this hotel for a nice relaxing break.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.....
Please be aware this is NOT a 4 STAR HOTEL. We checked in on 4th of April on afternoon and by evening desperately we rang Thompson to find us another hotel. The Luabay Hotel was full of over 80 years old German people, blood pressure machine in the lounge area, the pool is surrounded by blocs with flats, NOT HEATED POOL, NOT FREE INTERNET, our room 202 was claustrophobic, urine smell, small balcony, no mirrors¿¿¿¿¿¿basic 2 star hotel. The food was appalling, bland, cheap quality, dry, horrible ¿¿¿.. served by rude and unfriendly staff. Even the coffee was awful so we went one of the mornings in the bar area to pay for an espresso coffee, the bar person started to swear in Spanish language when we asked for some milk and he charged us extra for milk¿¿¿.we were shocked Thompson found us another hotel for extra cost after 2 days, no transfers to the new hotel and not a very efficient service.

Very nice stay
I stayed at Luabay for one week at the beginning of April. I booked the hotel with the tour operator not expecting to find a four-star, and it was not, but it was a very good three, and for the price, I was not complaining. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was asked to leave my case with reception, and was directed straight to the restaurant prior to check-in. This was because the restaurant was due to close at ten o¿¿¿clock, but food had been prepared for late arrivals. I was given a meal which consisted of a selection of cold meats, salad and fruit which, though not my idea of a typical evening meal, was perfectly acceptable given that I arrived in the hotel at nearly ten pm, and would not have been able to eat anything more substantial at that time of night. After the meal, I checked in, and went to my single room. Admittedly, the single rooms are small, and have no balcony. However, I do not go on holiday to sit in a bedroom for the duration, and I knew there was no balcony when I booked, so it really did not matter. On the plus side, my room was on the tenth floor, so it was very peaceful. I found the hotel very clean and in good repair, and my room was made up every day. Contrary to some reviews on this site, I found the hotel staff to be very pleasant and helpful, so I can only assume that either I must have met different staff to those which other reviewers encountered, or perhaps the staff simply reacted in kind to my attitude towards them. The food in the restaurant was always hot, and there was always plenty of choice, so no complaints. The only slight issue for me was the entertainment, which was geared towards older people, but again, I knew what to expect when I booked and, as there were plenty of pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, I knew I was not confined to the hotel and I did venture out several times. The resort of Puerto De La Cruz is very pleasant, and the hotel is well situated, the beach being no more than a five minute stroll away, and the fantastic Loro Parque within ten minutes walk. All in all, I would be happy to go back to the resort and the hotel, and I would recommend it to others.

Average is being rather generous.
This Hotel is lacking in quality in a few aspects.Restaurant staff were very good always a smile on their faces,however the food although a good selection was rather poor fare and got very monotonous.Also the price of drinks were very high it was no wonder that the only people drinking were people on all inclusive.The rooms were basically ok however as Steve H has mentioned no mirror in bedroom,no waste bin ,25 euro charge for safe and we didn't bother with the fridge(chargeable).The view from our room 1223 was probally one of the best in the hotel,with both mountain and sea view.The entertainment I think was the worst that I have experienced for a long time,the resident band Meridian Blue were there to entertain the Spanish guests with dance music ,the clown was awful as was the Elvis impersonator.The Elton John impersonator was the only one I would bother seeing again.The Thompson rep was virtually the invisible man,no welcome pack and no welcome meeting.All in all a disappointing holiday but for the weather which was warm throughout our stay.Doubt very much that we will return to the Luabay.

luabay tenerife hotel
went on holiday to the luabay hotel in tenerife on the 4th april for one week, this hotel is classed as a four star but i would say it is more of a three star, the rooms are quite small but clean, but we found that only one plug socket would work out of all four in the room, balcony is the size of a postage stamp, the only mirror is in the bathroom and there is nowhere to sit like at a table to do your hair or makeup, everything you want to do about getting ready to go out has to be make do , i had to prop a small mirror onto my pillow to dry and straighten my hair becuse the one socket in use was the one beside my bed.the food is quite nice but very samey every night and a lot of the waiters and waitresses seem to be either stressed or very miserable or though there are a few exceptions, hibra and denise the entertainment staff are VERY nice and try thier best with the resources that they have, they come around and ask if you want to join in the activities but are not pushy at all. cocktails are something of a mystery because one night i asked for the luabay cocktail, which was lovely so thought i would have another the next night but all i got was an alcoholic slush puppy so there is no consistency with what you are asking for each night, i think the waiters need to be trained on how to make cocktails as everyone that we had each night tasted totally different even though it was supposed to be the same one. the swimming pool is very small and VERY cold especially at this time of year. we were there on half board basis but got talking to a couple who were there all inclusive and they asked how we were getting waiters come to our table and take our drinks order and then bring them to us because they had wanted them to do the same for them but were told that all inclusive does not include this waiter service and they had to go to the bar and get thier own, so i dont think you get too much more for being all inclusive at this hotel. the evening entertainment was ok but seemed to be more geered up for spanish and germans not too much for the english tastes and the music seemed to be very samey too, there seemed to be some good ideas for the entertainment but not really put into place very well. all in all we did have a good time but wouldnt do anymore than a week there. and the reception staff were not overly helpful either. loro parque is a must though and it is only a fifteen minute walk from the hotel, it is a beautiful, beautiful zoo, the penguin section is an absolute must to see.
