One night stay
16 of us recently went to Wexford for a friends hen (our group were all between mid 20's and 30's up to 50's) - we stayed at Whites Hotel on the Saturday night. It is a beautiful hotel, very helpful and friendly staff. We also had a meal in their restaurant - they were very accomodating when we requested that we all be at the one table - the food was fantastic -everyone was very complimentary and very full afterwards. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone

Such a pity.
I am from Wexford originally and have to return there for business and family trips regularly so I have stayed at most of the hotels there. I felt a loyalty towards Whites Hotel having spent a lot of time there during my younger years, and knowing the original owners of the hotel. The renovations were impressive, bringing the old building up to scratch and hopes were high, we were regular customers during the first few years of its new opening, building up a good rapport with staff etc. It was a good business class hotel although a little impersonal compared to the old Whites. Gradually we noticed standards slipping, rooms not maintained, service poor, quality of food slipping and the more custom we put their way the shoddier the treatment. Eventually we discovered the hotel had changed hands again and put it down to teething problems. How wrong we were! If anything the standards sank lower, skimping on services and staff were obvious. We decided to use another hotel and leave Whites for a while. After a year we discovered it had changed hands again and thought we'd give it another chance. The room was a bit cold, but it was winter so we forgave that. The bedding...a thin blanket and a sheet. We had a very pleasant meal in the main restaurant, but were dissapointed to learn that the chef was leaving the following week. After a miserable cold nights sleep, we requested that a duvet be put on our bed for the following night, we were out working all day and trusted that it would be there upon our return later that night. Nope, nada, nothing. So we asked the night porter could he please get us a duvet and extra pillows ... he did, with no cover on them. To say we were shocked was putting it mildly, not even in my younger days while staying in Youth Hostels did I have to make my own bed, let alone in a supposed 4 star hotel. We did complain the following day to the duty manager, who agreed that it was unacceptable. She did try to make amends and apologised but to be honest unless we were very stuck, its unlikely we would give it more chances, its a pity as it could be a GREAT hotel.

Expected more
We stayed in a junior suite. The room was fabulous with amazing views of the harbour. Staff also great. For the price of 250 for two in this room the tv didn't work properly. We had maybe two channels. For two guests we were only given one tube of shampoo, body wash and lotion. We didn't have enough for us both, the shampoo was very bad and left hair very dry. For such an expensive hotel they need to pay attention to the finer details.

superb for weddings
i went to a wedding and i must say everything about the hotel was first class. the service was amazing, the food 1st class and the hotel was so clean. the location of the hotel is so central, with so many pubs and restaurants in walking distance.

Lacking character.
I spent a few nights at Whites recently and while it does everything a decent mid-range hotel should do, there was something not quite right, something missing. On arrival, the lobby of the hotel is vast and airy and the staff at reception are pleasant. The hotel caters for a lot of large groups and conferences so we had to kill a few hours down town until our rooms were ready. Fortunately, the hotel is ideally located and is in the heart of the town. There is a car park under the hotel but it's not until you are checking out that they inform you there is a ¿¿¿3 per night fee. When I eventually got into the room, it was bright and clean with a beautiful view over the bay. There was plenty of storage space, a kettle and and iron and ironing board. Then things started to go downhill a bit. The tv remote didn't work and neither did the in room safe. Despite informing reception twice during the stay, they were never repaired. Not a huge issue but that makes it all the worse as something so small could not be rectified. The bathroom was fitted out as a wet room to accommodate disabled access to the shower which wasn't great if I'm honest. The wall fittings and hose never sat right so I had to manoeuvre myself under the stream of water. Thankfully the breakfast is pretty decent so it made my mornings somewhat more bearable. There is a leisure centre attached to the hotel which customers can use but I did not get down to it.This hotel could be very good but it lacks character and any sort of personal touches that make you feel really welcome and valued. I fear Whites now concentrates on catering to the conference market and the accommodation aspect of the business is somewhere further down the list of priorities. Overall, a disappointing stay.
