This is not a 4* hotel
Admitedly I booked our family holiday late and so the choice was limited but after reading the details on the hotel and looking at the photo's, I thought it might be ok. It was marked as a 4* after all. We lasted less than 24 hrs and paid another ¿¿1020 to go somewhere else!!!!!! The hotel is big and old fashioned, the reception area was depressing and dated, the lighting in the bedroom was so bad that we couldn't read and when we asked about having a reading lamp, the receptionist said they didn't have any and that they always got complaints about the poor lighting, the food was very poor, basic and luke warm, I complained and the receptionist shrugged. The heat was never turned up. You weren't able to take drinks from the bar (in the reception area, to your room and as we had two children asleep, didn't want to leave them. There was no night life, the children's club was for toddlers, the pool area is DEADLY. It's much smaller than the photo and is surrounded by polished tiles. I had non-slip shoes on and I slipped over and split my head open (1.5"). So many people was slipping and sliding it was rediculous. That was the last straw. On checking out, the receptionist said that we should have made them aware and they could have done something about it, we advised her that we did but realised quite early on that NOTHING could have been done as they either weren't willing to or unable to do anything.

Cold food
We stayed for 1week all inclusive, as the food was unedible and cold had to spend ¿¿¿18 (¿¿¿9each way) on taxi's per afternoon for lunch to the nearest restaurant then an extra ¿¿¿18 euro's per evening for dinner, and an average ¿¿¿70 for four of us 2adult 2children to eat each time, nearly ¿¿¿ 200 per day for something we already thought we'd payed for and we aren't fussy eaters, the extra ¿¿¿1400 was worth every penny than to risk our childrens health. I would personally rate this hotel as 2-3 star.

Very poor
We stayed here in October 2012, 2 children and two adults. Due to it being late in the season everything was either shut in the hotel or in the process of shutting. Nothing done to try and make us feel welcome. Indoor pool dirty and jacuzzi very smelly. In fairness the apartments were spacious and kept clean. Choice of food poor, again as end of seson.Overall it was a dissapointing experience and one we wont be repeating. We travel alot and expect to be treated as if we are guests and that our business is appreciated no matter what time of the season. Could this have been a good experience, maybe if an effort had been made by staff. I had put this comment on another site as they had requested feedback but they have not put it on.

Away from the touristy areas
We have just stayed here in March, it was very comfortable and the apartments are spacious and clean with air con which was good as it was cold so we had it on all the time, we hired a car as it is in a quiet rural setting with no shops or restaurants nearby except in the hotel, the nearest beach is about a 10 min drive. The staff at the hotel are the friendliest we have come across in all the 30 years we have visited the Algarve and they were very helpful and kind, we would stay there again.

Good but not enough black men
I stayed in the balaia atlantico in march 2013 with seventeen of us all eager to sample the local cheese.The hotel was fantastic in all areas,food,drink,and service with a smile.The breakfast and evening meal was brilliant.The only complaint I have is that there wasn't enough black men
