A LOT BETTER THAN THEY SAY.
Had a week at this hotel from MAY 10-17 and found it a very nice stay even though the reviews of previous commentators had been very critical of almost all aspects of the hotel.We were in a pool view room where the level of cleanliness was of a very high standard.The bathroom is a little tight but managable.The food was to a good standard and plentiful and the staff led by Edmondo i found amiable.It is busy so can be a little slow at times,Breakfast is self service and the hot and cold drinks are from machines but quite drinkable.Michele and Santon in the bar and pool bar are exceptionable.I would not hesitate to recommend or return to Grand Hotel Flora again.

Excellent stay
The hotel looks very grand when you enter,the reception area and bar are lovely.The bedroom was not quite so grand-quite a small room,very little storage room or shelves in the bedroom or bathroom,beds were very hard !!! The shower cubicle is a tight experience too.We were on the side of an annex type building,our balcony looked onto a motorbike shop wall to the right was the very busy main road into Sorrento which is like a race circuit 24 hours a day-plenty of fumes !!!We found the food to be very good (even though my husband is a picky eater),plenty of choice,decent portions (always 4 courses).The poolside bar was excellent for lunch at a good price.We were not charged for sunbeds but some people were charged 5 euros a day per bed .Very short taxi ride into Sorrento costs 12 - 15 euros each way !!!!!! Total rip off !!!

The worst food ever!
It takes a lot for me to write a review but the food in this place was the poorest I've ever had! The first thing you notice as you walk up the stairs towards the restaurant is the noise, it sounded like a football crowd then as you enter the noise hits you, They have cramped in as many people as possible resulting in this wall of sound that never dies and straight away you realise this will not be a pleasant experience, then the food came! I can honestly say this was the worst food I have ever been given in any restaurant, cafe or any eating venue and that includes greasy spoons or burger stalls! They presented us with a complimentary starter and to this day I still don't know what it was, we noticed them stacked up on a table and had the misfortune of been given one. I think it was meat in a shape of a small sausage with some pastry, my wife immediately knew not to try it but I thought I'd prod it with my fork but it just bounced off, the waiter seemed surprised when we turned it away. The next course was baked salmon but it was swimming in butter , again I gave it ago and managed a mouthful, we did not stay for our dessert. We thought we'd give it one more try the following evening but this was even worse. Lastly we thought we'd give breakfast a go but it was so limited, no fresh coffee but a coffee machine so that was the last straw. We went half board but ended up eating out for breakfast and dinner with all that extra expense not we didn't budget for!

BIG disappointment
This holiday was a surprise booked for my 30th by my hubby. I was unbelievably excited to be going and was unfortunately disappointed as soon as I turned up at the hotel. There are two petrol garages - one next door, one opposite and the hotel is on one of the busiest parts of the main roads in Sorrento. Our 1st room had mould and plaster falling off the walls and a completelely broken air conditioning control panel - as in the buttons were all broken off!! After complaining about the condition of the room and the noise of the street we asked to be moved.The man at reception argued that the control panel wasn't broken - I invited him to come look which he declined. We asked to be moved due to the noise - he gave us a blank look and said it would be 20 euros each per night - 140 in total!!! The room we were given wasn't the best. Thick dust on the mirror - a broken shower holder and part of the ceiling was drooping and held up with masking tape. Food was slop. Served ridiculously fast and tasteless. Waiters were friendly and asked what else we would like to eat but to be honest we didn't want to eat there as it just got worse and worse. There was no atmosphere - not we wanted from a romantic get away to Italy. Breakfast was pretty much the same. Sometimes fresh, sometimes stale croissants and ciabatta. drinks from a machine that were cold. Pool wasn't open which we expected, but we learnt you have to pay if you do use it!!! No atmosphere, big disappointment. I wouldn't rate this a 4 star at all. Good point is that its only a 10 minute walk into town - shame its on a main road though with petrol stations surrounding us

Cannot recommend this hotel. 2 star at most
Having spent 11 nights in this hotel and just returning yesterday i felt compelled to write this review.The grand hotel flora is a 4 star hotel. How? Just How??The reception is a bland, dull area as are the seats and bar area.The pool, was closed despite 20 degree weather.Food - pretty awful, breakfast is cereal, toast, and cheese, thats it.Evening meal, a choice of 2 starters, and 2 mains, if you dont like them, you're screwed. (I didnt by the way)The staff, some good, some bad. The waiters are very friendly, as is chris on reception, the rest are miserable and unhelpful (which seems par for the course for how we got treated by Italians im sorry to say)Bit of advise for you, go to kontatto cafe down the road, they are friendly, great food, great entertainment.We hated our holiday in sorrento but liked that cafe.What else, oh yes, its apparently the place where all american schools go on holidays, and yes, they are insanely annoying and noisey. Go ahead and ask to be moved, they'll just look at you as if they suddenly cant speak english.Avoid this hotel at all costs.
